I started extending my daily face, neck, chest regimen to my hands and forearms - just about 2 months ago. I’m stunned at the improvement. I added a vitamin K product to the top of my hands and forearms at night, followed by a moisturizer. In the morning, vitamin C serum, moisturizer and on the hands a layer of Vaseline, which I re-do once during the day. I’m a big hand washer, house chores, painting, decorating projects person, and that layer of Vaseline makes a huge difference. I’ve also gotten rid of most of the brown spots by treating with tiny dots of RetinA 2/3X a week. Plus Sun Block! I wish I had been so diligent decades ago.

I’m so glad that you’ve shared this comment. I started a skincare program about 6 weeks ago and I have seen improvements. I’m like you in that I am constantly busy with my hands. The Vaseline is a great idea. Can you please share what vitamin K product you use and also your retinol product? Is it an over the counter? Now that I am comfortable with morning and evening face and neck routines, I added a routine for my forearms and feet. Might as well work on the hands now, too.

I’m 64 years old and my face looks younger than my years. I do of course use good skin care. I don’t use a multitude of serums but I do use vitamin C in the am and retinol in the pm. I have been using both on my hands as well. I recently noticed that I my hands are looking a little older so I now use Gold Bond retinol cream on my arms and hands in the pm. That is something that another dermatologist on You tube recommended. I also have hand exzema and have been using a 22% Urea cream on my hands after every hand wash and wear gloves doing dishes or any house cleaning. I don’t ever intend to do any in office procedures on my face or hands. I will take care of my skin and age with grace.

Dr. Sam. I see Vaseline and Mineral Oil recommended and used by many. I don’t understand… these are petroleum products, made with hydrocarbons, gasoline ingredients. How is that good on our skin and bodies ? Also…, I would love to know if you have a video for women in their 70s. Seeing commercials and influencers 20-40 yrs. old doesn’t help much. Your videos are so encouraging and you have so much guidance. You are truly a blessing, wish I’d found your channel years ago ! 😊🌺😊

Petroleum comes from underground "swamps" of plant materials and water formed under pressure. It is totally "organic." Our bodies comprise many of these minerals, primarily carbon and water. Burning petroleum, aka gasoline, releases carbon and water into the atmosphere and is unsuitable for life. Petrolatum and mineral oils are processed safely in the United States and are entirely safe to use topically. In fact, these products prevent transepidermal water loss and are soothing skin protectants.

From personal experience, if you are prone to melasma, be careful with the use of vaginal estrogen cream anywhere else on your skin! I tried using mine on my neck and chest for only a few days before I noticed a new spot of melasma (with no new or recent sun exposure). I've also been using the estradiol gel since I'm allergic to many adhesives, and after 2 months of use, I have 3 new brown spots where I apply the gel every night. This is, of course, just my experience but if you know that you're prone to melasma, do a spot test with your estrogen cream somewhere you won't mind getting brown sports first before applying it to your hands or your face! Otherwise, the estradiol gel and cream have been absolutely fantastic medications for their intended purpose and I'm so glad that we can all talk about peri/menopause more openly now than ever before. If you're in your early 40's please do yourself a favor and start learning about the symptoms now so you can be prepared. I wasn't and suffered from severe brain fog for 2 years before seeking treatment... don't be me!

Something that I have been doing a treat (I try to never do single use items) is fill a pair of latex or nitrile gloves with lotion, aloe, oil, glycerin, and aquafor or petroleum jelly. I mix it up really well and then have my hands sit inside for 15-20 mins (while taking a bath or watching a tv show). Then I take them off and rub the access into my hands. I feel like it's really helping with my skin barrier. I bet if I remembered to put my sun screen on my hands that would take me over the finish line.

I used to play tennis for years and the sunscreen on my legs completely discolored my black leather seat (in my latest car), ugh. The younger generation is taught to drive with hands at 8 and 4, not 10 and 2, so I do avoid the sun on my hands by driving that way. In the last five years I was wearing sun sleeves while exercising outdoors, but they didn't cover the hand, although some long sleeve sun shirts have that option. I'm definitely wearing gloves as the weather gets cold here. I think it would be odd to do it in year-round warm weather places but I'd rather get "looks" and questions about that than have all the office work done that she talked about.

Now that I've gotten into more sophisticated skin care, I mix two or more of the products I'm going to use in the palm of my hand and apply it on my face, neck, and chest with the other hand. When finished, I scoop up, so to speak, half of the product left in the palm and apply it to the back of tht hand and then using the rest of the mixture in the palm, apply it to the top of the other hand. If there's enough, I also spread it up onto my forearms. So the skin on my hands looks terrific! Yes they're bony looking because of the fat loss, but it is what it is and I'm more than happy with how healthy and youthful the skin is.
