Very helpful for a woman that doesn't know much about machines. I'm using a Jet 10/20 right now but it wants to shut down on its own. The Smart Sander is why I was looking at the 16/32 option. Thanks for confirming this for me as the tool of choice. Ann

Stoner great Review, I bought the JET 22/44 Drum Sander last week mainly for end grain cutting boards but now run everything thru it and my planer (Mr. Snipe) is now the odd man out. You were spot on on the time savings, saves me hours trying to sand out the planer snipe on the side grain boards and lots and lots of time using the random orbital sander on my end grain boards. It just me and it's overkill but I sand all of my cutting boards to 1000 grit to get a glass smooth finish and silky feel once their oiled. Great review

Hi Stoner, thanks for the excellent video. You say you make butcher block counter tops. I have some to make useing Para/Rubber wood. It comes in sheets of 2400 x 1200 x 20 mm all finger jointed like a butcher block. But I need the tops to be 4 mtr x 60cm so I will be cutting them into 4.2mm strips for the thickness & glueing them up to get the length. My question is if you could only have one machine, what would it be, a planer/thicknesser or a Drum Sander? Thanks again for the video

Hundred percent you can use a shop vac. It just won’t work as well as a dust collector. It’s a low pressure high volume versus high pressure low volume situation. You can also move it outside. Great video, I currently only have a 6hp rigid shop vac and not plans or money to get an upgraded dust collector. Are you say without propped dust collection would this sander just not work effectively not being able to remove all the dust?
@StonerEricson Жыл бұрын
Yes I tried it with all my shop backs and when you go down to two or 2 1/2 inch poured down to a four with a hose it’s too long to really suck any of the fine dust up. It worked a little bit but it kicked most of the dust back onto the piece into the rollers which caused damage to the piece. I was working on, so you really need to have a 4 inch dust collection system to run a sander like this effectively thanks for the comment means a lot. I love my sander though.

Great video! We got one in our shop to try and speed up sanding 8ft oak planks to be used as trim pieces. Couldn't seem to get the hang of it, the boards kept getting ruined with wavy, uneven sanding marks. Even tried setting it up with stand rollers on each side to mitigate any potential "bounce" in the board and the issue still seemed to be there. Did you run into this at all? Any tips? Thanks!
@StonerEricson Жыл бұрын
You’re going to fast and you’re trying to take too much on you slow down the process you won’t have those issues if you bought at noon that should have the bearing and roller should be straight as an arrow but it used you might have to readjust the rolling bearings thanks for watching. I also have a Jet 1632 and it is a good machine, easier to use than Performex, which I sold. I use it instead of a thickness planer, but I see the limitations to the sander. And so loose the screws almost come out and still I get snipe for about 2 inches on either end. Are you having the same issue or what did you do to fix it?
@StonerEricson Жыл бұрын
I had the same issues when I first got mine, and I was taking too much off in each past try to back it off a little bit, and the snipe will be reduced also, whenever you can send pieces back to back to remove snake like you were on your planner do you have the extension tables if that will helps as well
