@@lavenderblue5143 It actually makes reference to a wonderful fact about him and his big, loud, natural hair. Don Cheadle made that choice and as a future History teacher, I picked up on that nuanced decision. Showing this to students actually can start a conversation. Another example would be Lincoln saying "he just wanted to preserve the union" because it can start the dialog of Lincoln idea to start a new country for Black People in South America but only free Black men could be in charge since they would be less angry at white people lol Insane but true

I discovered this series in an effort to find an adjunct learning tool for our visit to historical Williamsburg. If you don't appreciate their drunken state and the sort of frat boy premise you have to regard the fine acting along with the historical references that popular actors, such as Will Ferrel, Don Cheatle, Jack Black, bring to life...lol! The backdrop to these events are well done and make learning fun...well, in a maverick kind of way.This clip is about Fredrick Douglas, or was it Richard Dreyfuss? and Abraham Lincoln's friendship despite their differing views of the Emancipation Proclamation. I seriously had tears rolling down my face! Jen Kirkman did an awesome job! My favorite episode by far! Mary Todd Lincoln offers a gift to Douglas, "Abe's favorite walking stick...that was like, Thank you much."

Funny, and not entirely accurate, obviously, but she knows her history drunk better than most people do sober! She was keen to point out that Lincoln wasn't as much the "Great Emancipator" as school textbooks would have us believe, that his major priority was preserving the Union.
@lukemeyer59249 жыл бұрын
+dreamlandnightmare What's not accurate? The guy who does it, while wanting to have fun with it, makes sure all the information is correct (of course except funny slip ups like when she says Pres. Clinton). He's talked about how he will stop and correct them if they get off the facts.

@@thatonestormtrooper2760 I mean, my Coloradoan history teachers of the mid to late 90s regarded him as the ultimate hero of civil rights...
@thatonestormtrooper27605 жыл бұрын
@@mowganashwey look Abraham Lincoln was by no means a bad person. And there is evidence to show that he truly did lean towards an abolitionist sort of stance. But his ultimate goal was to preserve the union. He famously said that if he could save the union by freeing no slaves he would do it, if he could save the union by freeing all slaves he would do it, and if he could save the union by freeing some slaves then he would do that. Theres also the fact that during his time he was a bit of a tyrant. He did some questionable things when it comes to things like rights and due processes. All that said the fact is Abraham Lincoln was the president who finally ended American slavery. His motives may not have been entirely pure, and freeing the slaves didnt exactly mean they were treated equally. Sorry if I came off dismissive of the man. I really do respect a great many things about him, but I dont idolize him. Humans are flawed creatures. Raising anyone to that untouchable status is a bad idea.
