Dad was extremely confused. The confusion was building on itself and he was becoming extremely frustrated. I tried to help him clear his mind for a second (closing his eyes) and this time he was able to recover his composure and reach a moment of lucidity. It was a heartwarming transformation over 8 minutes.

@@slimkim2506 I too watched it with my Mom & you're right it is sad. But for all of those who come after us & will experience these same situations with their loved ones, these videos are informative. There are increases in cognitive diagnoses such as Dementia, Alzheimer's, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia & others. For those of us who choose to keep our loved ones at home, whether by choice or because of the cost of Nursing Homes usually requiring a full time aide or nurse, a Memory Care Facility or Full Time Skilled Care, people need to know what they're getting into by making the choice Dan & his family have made. I'm sorry about your Mother; mine passed from Alzheimer's in 2017

That was a problem with my dad...when a man that old wakes up, bedhead & unshaven, the hospital treated him like he was some old man from skid row. My dad didn't even have dementia, he was just aging & pumped full of drugs that were confusing him. He was a major person in management at AT&T, with a full life, & very smart. So we took him home & took care of him for 6 years with zero help before his body quit. And he died happy.

Chiming in from Jamaica. I just love how patient you are with your father. In my culture this is the norm for your ailing parents to live with you. We just think they would be happier and healthier being around their family. My father had dementia for the last part of his life, but he was lucid for the most part I really wish I could have back even 1 of those days with him. His passing was very hard on the family but watching your video is tremendously healing for me. I really can't explain it but somehow I can see my Dad in your Dad even though you are so far away and of an entirely different culture. I really appreciate this.

I lost my grandparents both to Alzheimer's, Gma this April, and my Gpa 11 years ago. We all took care of them both, and just this evening, I was sitting on the porch with my aunt when we figured out that we both watch the Salinger's channel. We concurred that we really could have benefitted from having Dan's videos then; he is amazing with Ed. And you can't help but love Gpa, even the ones I watch through tears, I'm still smiling. He reminds me of my Gpa, always worrying about something, bless their big, giant hearts. I'm so thankful for them sharing their journey with us all.🥰

I love how you have these conversations with Ed. It was great how you stopped the early confusion and gave him a reset for his thoughts. You're so good with your Dad and perceptive in what is happening with him.❤

You do a great job taking care of dad. It's not easy dealing with dementia. I used to work in a care center.

Wow! How impressive. This is pretty amazing how you used the closing of the eyes to reorient your precious Dad. Marvelous. Sending all the best to you, Danielle, Grandpa, Mark and your entire family.

Your patience is so admirable Dan. My 86 year old mother is starting beginning stages, which is why I’ve followed you for quite awhile now. I’m trying to learn patience. The other day she asked me which Seattle Mariners newscaster left the pregame show and why (she’s a huge Mariners fan, never misses a game) I said I don’t know mother. She continued on, and this happens more often now. I actually got her the Alexis Echo so she could ask the weather forecast (another constant topic to overcome daily). Huge mistake! I realized I just need to get more patience especially after spending 3 hours trying to explain how Alexis works. It’s difficult at times, but as the only daughter it’s now my responsibility to take care of her. God bless you guys and thank you for a lot of insight to this debilitating disorder.

Dan, you're becoming an expert and your videos will be of great help to others. Your Dad remembered you're an attorney and it's endearing how he's often heard asking where Danielle is.

After your dad closed his eyes and relaxed his focus was spot on. It qppears you've found a technique that may help others. I wish when my grandmother was still alive I would have thought of such a simple thing as closing your eyes and relaxing to have made life easier. Hope this continues to work well with your dad keep up the good work and know you may have touched on something no one else has thought to do. God bless and may this continue to help your father and those of us who follow you.
