I started reading manga and watching anime as a kid in like 2007 cause I had some awesome friend who got me j to it and supported it. But the bullying and social stigma it has was so severe I used to go to the bookstore and hide that I read it. I was even embarrassed to go into the Manga section and had to like prep talk myself to do it. And I was even decently popular, I was great at football and trouble maker but not even that would protect me from saying I liked Anime. When I was in High school, I played football, wrestling, and rugby. Still couldn't talk about it outside my close friend groups(none of them were in sports). It didn't help that the people who wanted to discuss it with anybody treated it like gospel and a religion, so it weirded everyone out(the guy who wore a Naruto headband in HS decided to jerk it in class, which made it even worse). My point is, these people still dislike anime a lot and dislike the fact everyone is open about it now.

During medical residency and up until now at practice, I still follow One Piece and the dark trio: JJK, CSM, and Hell's Paradise along with KnY, BnH, Black Clover, Mashle, OPM, Vinland Saga. It was more than 10 years ago i discovered the magic of anime. At that time anime was still a niche that people thought anime was for kids. Turn out its just like any normal tvseries but its easier for animator to turn their ridiculous ideas to the screen, unlike tvseries that have human action limitation and computer graphic is expensive. There's a lot of different genre within anime itself that these genres are their own niches. But the crazy thing is previously i love and watch all animes of all genres but now with numbers of anime growing like crazy, you have to choose what you want to watch.

When I was 10 and started watching One Piece on TV I always made sure my brother or parents wouldn't come in, so I wouldn't have to explain why I'm watching "this weird stuff". Admitting Detective Conan first was easier. But actually even today, 15ish years later I haven't completely fallen out of that habit. I usually wait for others to mention anime first. It became rare, but I dislike explaining it. And especially when they say: "anime, wasn't that that tentacle children thing", it's just really tiring. It's the same being a vegetarian or vegan btw. People will just come to you and say: "why don't you eat meat and why do all the vegans have to always annoy you with the topic".

That said, today I just feel sad for these people, that because it is animated and they can't get over that fact, that they won't get to experience some of those absolutely amazing stories and concepts that can only currently be experienced in anime and manga (and somewhat in books). Pretty much my whole family refuse to even consider watching anything even related to animated content and it absolutely sucks not being able to convince them that a big huge chunk of the best stories, I have ever experienced, is even worth their time.

a lot of people cannot comprehend things they dont personally experience. sonder is the idea of realizing every person you meet has a full life experience comparable, but different to, your own. and sadly theres quite a large portion of people that cannot understand this fact.

Yeah. She seems pretty terrible. It really does feel like a 13 year old trying to be cringey to their friends.

From the perspective of 1 teen. In 1 room. Seeing adults on tiktok is very cringe. Edit: Actually nah... depends on what typa videos u make. I feel dance videos are cringe. No matter what age u are, but adults are a bit worse💀

I've never understood the point of hate watching anything, it always seems so counter intuitive.
