Great, informative video. I like your attention to safety and how you try to give as much info as possible. A couple things I found out the hard way: 1. If the old trans went out, you need to flush the oil cooler with brake cleaner and compressed air or it can fill your newly rebuilt transmission with junk. 2. Lube the back of the crank with grease before you stick the torque converter in there. This allows the converter to move forward and back as the flexplate flexes. 3. Put the exhaust above the crossmember but don’t attach it until you put the inside bolt on the driver’s side in the crossmember or the bolt will have to go in backwards from the rest. 4. If you installed a new converter too, when you bolt it to the flexplate, make sure there is less than 3/16” gap between them. If not, you will need washers to close the gap. 5. Depending on the year, the starter wires are too short to install until the starter is mounted. Your video on removing the hot glue connectors on the neutral safety switch saved me a huge headache! Keep up the great work!

Do you really trust flushing the lines will take care of your future problem? should you essentially replace lines, radiator,and trans-cooler?
@dudewecanfixit Жыл бұрын
Either trans lube or red wheel bearing grease
@dudewecanfixit Жыл бұрын
My transmission didn't have a catastrophic failure, so I'm fine with flushing the lines. If it did have a catastrophic failure, I would install an auxiliary cooler and bypass the trans cooler in the radiator. I have a video on the auxiliary cooler install.

Just did a full rebuild on my 01 jimmy. It's a lot more in depth for a 1st timer but I truly enjoyed rebuilding the tranny, adding sonnax shift kit, parts of transgo shift kit, corvette servo and a sonnax sun shell which was my problem in the first case. Totally stripped out 😆. But I would like to thank you two on a job well done. Especially with the feeler gauges, tolerances, and the confidence to do this job. I would've been up shit creek if not for you 2. I had a dam check ball fall into the side of the transmission 😆 and I double checked to make sure the c clips on the pump valve were fully seated then it got away from me and into the transmission again 🤦 but shit, I didn't even mind digging it out lol. Now I know I can rebuild one of these things and next would be engine dismantling but that's for another time. Much respect from Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦

When I pulled the Allison 1000 out from behind my LB7 in the street to replace the broken flexplate (with a SoCal diesel billet 1 piece), I just put the truck on 4 ramps to give me the height I needed to work under it. Driveshaft I just pulled out of the trans and bungeed off to the side out of the way instead of pulling the heavy ass 2 piece driveshaft out. Having the wheels off wouldn't have made it any easier for me, what would've made it easier is if the street were smooth so I could maneuver the trans jack around. Glad I don't live there anymore.

Just gonna have to shovel snow when I go to take it in and out lol. I’m just making sure I get a kit that has the pistons in it, cause I figure if it’s not that check ball in the housing it’s gotta be the pistons that caused the 3/4 to go bad. Originally I hoped it was just a solenoid so I dropped the pan twice trying to fix it but now when I drive it I can tell it hits 3rd but there’s just a lot of rpm before you get any sort of pull feel out of the pedal then it just drops back into 2 when it gets around 4k
@dudewecanfixit3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have it figured out. Sounds like the frictions and steels are toast. Definitely replace the pistons and verify the check ball doesn't leak. Also look into reaming out and replacing the AFL valve in the valve body. You should also replace the TCC valve, these wear out and 3-4 apply fluid pressure can be reduced increasing slippage and burnout of clutches. Sonnax and transgo make kits for these repairs.

Best video ever. Do you add oil in the torque converter before you install? I save over $2000 dollars just by looking at this video like 6 times. Thank you so much

I use over rated jack stands for safety. Watch at the beginning of the video how I purposefully push on the truck in every direction to make sure that it will not move and is safe to be under.

When you fill transmission up you’re suppose to add 4 1/2 quarts started it up add to up 11 1/2 and check add if needed never fill up all 12 that’s why you had it venting

I'm kicking myself for not reusing the original torque converter. The reman unit had a screwed up bolt hole and I didn't know it until I had the trans all bolted up. Had a heck of a time chasing the hole and it was still tight. That TC was a garbage dacco unit and they used paper clutch material and sold it as a woven carbon fiber unit. It would shudder as the pwm solenoid was about to lock up. No wonder they don't do remans for automobiles anymore. I bought a new TC from a reputable company and guess what? One of the dang bolt holes had a ding next to it making it so the bolt wouldn't go in by hand. Not as bad as the dacco unit but still irritating.
@dudewecanfixit3 жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunate, but it’s a good idea to have a small file on hand to clean up those bolt hole entrances

The smaller not on the starter for the signal wire is not a 9/16 it is either a 5/16 which would be 8 mm or it’s a 3/8 equivalent to 10 mm 9/16 would be 14 mm similar to the size of the spark plug socket on a Mini Cooper

when reinstall do you need to put fluid in torque converter first or does it fill through the dipstick too????

Major Question for my install: I broke my dipstick trying to remove it before. The old housing at the bottom will not come out! Is there any harm in removing the tranny pan to push the pieces out and then reassemble it? Is there a better way than that? I would very much appreciate any help any of you could give!!!

hey guys, you have helped me do 2 transmissions swaps at home . i ran into a problem , the bottom 2 bell housing bolts have stripped threads. is there a way to fix ? thanks in advance
@dudewecanfixit2 жыл бұрын
If it's the bolts, just go get new bolts. If it's inside the engine, you might be able to bore it out and put in over size threads or a helicoil

What is the process if your torque converter is bound up. My transmission isn’t wanting to sit flush against my engine and I think that’s the issue maybe
@dudewecanfixit2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your torque converter is not seated all the way. Move the transmission back and try to get the torque converter to seat further. Rotate and push until it clicks down further
