What his projections seem to miss out is the general decline from smart formal wear to more casual clothing across the board from business meetings to every day wear. There's a reason the barbers no longer have shoe shine seats! And then throw in technology advancements with more meetings being online (and even more so since covid).....it just seems unrealistic that he took 7 an hour per day, 365 days a year as the baseline projections and didn't factor in anything else!

@@kevinsoo633 come on now, that's a bit of a silly question, isn't it? A) he was going to provide the full capitalisation he was asking for, which up to that point nobody else had. Without capital, a business like that will struggle getting off the ground. B) he is a successful businessman who's been there and done it. So, his background may not be in shoe shining (I imagine few people's are). However, he can still push things in the right direction and probably has contacts who could've helped. End of the day, I'm no business person so I could be talking crap. But I'd think 60% of a business with capital in it and a savvy businessman is worth way more than 100% of a business with none of that.

When I worked in Turkey, I was chased along streets by shoe-shine boys who were persistent. I took to wearing suede desert boots which can't be polished in order to have a quiet life. Many other people wear trainers/sneakers or even sandals when taking a flight because the feet won't feel pinched by tight shoes. This man is not likely to get 7 people an hour x 16 hours per day ( and I like cleaning my own shoes).

UPDATE: Doing some research, looks like the company changed names a few times, first to "Shoe Shine Express" in 2011 and most recently "Home Reach Developments" in 2018 which clearly seems to be something completely different to the shoe shine business. Accounts show total assets of £1.4m, creditors of £1.7m and total net liabilities of -£0.3m.

They had tint batteries of like 2-300mah, they didn't need fast charge. Those batteries could also last a week, so when it takes less than an hour for a full charge, a 5 min boost is quite useful.

In these circumstances its quite difficult based on the variables you mentioned, service time ect.. however when you pitch for investment you need to provide a figure.. although it may be hard to get an exact correct forecast you need to provide the minimum of what you can expect worst case scenario.. An investor cant possibly invest in "Well it depends how busy it is ect or how fast the polish takes ect" all these things should have already been taken into account. She came across as harsh but these dragons as rich as they are, are investing often enough not getting a return because its a gamble and when someone asks for money and says well i cant tell you how much we will make because it "depends" ect straight away its a "im out"

He didn't even bother trying to negotiate? What a strange approach! James was open to a lower offer but he didn't even test the waters. Probably could have got 25-30% and that would have been amazing and a great deal for them both.

Ok the main guy at Heathrow who’s now retired actually retired quite a rich man! Not quite a millionaire but retired quite well off. Also the majority of the city office blocks have these people and they get more than 7 people an hour! It’s not really a business to invest in and build up but a business which is and has been a public building business which should be leased by the owners!

You can bet that any money given for any shares will have to be ploughed back into equipment, wages, warehouse rent, or whatever...The "inventor" doesn't just go off with that money and have a big jolly up. He did not say the cost of a pitch. In heathrow I imagine that could easily be £300 a day plus other overheads. Shoe shine boys is a thing of the past when streets were probably a lot more dirty than they are now.
