I'm actually impressed by the Q7's performance. I was expecting it to struggle a lot more given that it is a soft-roader with no diff locks.

Interesting test. Nice result for the Q7. However, I find its traction control a little too intrusive. It hardly lets the wheels slip at all. It's impressive on the rollers, but it's clear that you need engine speed and, above all, a lot of work from the automatic gearbox's torque converter. And on certain surfaces, that could be a problem.

I belive there's s still somewhere a test, where one side of the car was on an ice patch, car was trying to start uphill. Intrusive TC intervention was causing a major slide out of the driving direction.

audi system is binding itself by braking both wheels of a given axle when they are on rollers, and the other axle isn't spinning because the center diff is also locked when slip is detected... which is really stupid

I drove a facelift with the supercharged V6 model here in the states over some muddy trails to go shooting. I think with the 8 speed transmission the system works much better as it has much more torque in first gear. There was much less torque converter slip sound when climbing over things.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers And not just that. In the sand, for example, it can become a super handbrake, preventing the car from picking up speed. But with sand, you 'surf' on it.

In the test with traction control off, is the driver adding brake pressure to transfer torque across the differentials or do the vehicles still apply the brakes onto spinning wheels even with TC off?

ESP goes off. TC remains active, in Q7 it even looks like switching to more aggressive mode.

Land Rover w teście z napędzany tylko tylnym kołem grał nie fair - widać ewidentnie że znosiło go na rolkach i zjeżdżał z rolek w momencie jak przednie prawe koło łapało przyczepność o obudowę rolek. Audi to końca było na rolce.

Opona nie ma możliwości dotknięcia obudowy rolek, cały czas znajduje się nad ramą i może swobodnie się kręcić.

Chłopie, RR to RR, a nie jakieś Audi z pseudo blokadami widać jak ABS przyhamowywał koła na rolkach.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers teoria... gdy opona schodzi z rolki jej nacisk zwiększa się przez co można powiedzieć, że zaczyna ona opływać "urządzenie" czyli ramę rolki. Na filmiku obejrzyj, ale ewidentnie widać że coś jest nie tak. W Audi tego efektu nie ma, bo jest cały czas prosto na rolkach. Poza tym, wspomniany zjazd z rolki przez RR powoduje że opona jest sztorcowana (bo jest pod skosem) w stosunku do rolki (więc nie jest to wtedy rolka a coś w stylu beczki) - zupełnie inne zachowanie rolki, inna powierzchnia styku, większe opory na łożyskach, itp. itd. Nie sugeruję nieobiektywności w teście, ale moim zdaniem małą niedoskonałość. Pozdrawiam.
