Dyson DC07 | How to replace bin latch mechanism

Since I got so many requests for vacuum cleaner videos, here's another one. Replacing the bin latch hook on this Dyson DC07 I was given.
Sorry about the inconsistent white balance throughout the video, something about my LED lightbulbs doesn't seem to play nicely with the camera.

It worked! I now have a "new" vacuum! Hated to get rid of it just for a broken latch. Thank goodness for this video! However, I had to get my neighbor to help me get the old latch out. He couldn't do it either, so he final took some nose pliers and just broke the old latch. Now I don't have to throw away a $300 vacuum for a $5 part. Thank you SO much for posting this video!! Helps people like me!

Thank you for this! Mine has been broken for over a year, looked and looked for the part and couldn't stomach buying a whole used cyclone assembly for the exorbitant prices people wanted. A quick note: that part is not $20 on the eBay link(inflation🙄) but it is now available on Amazon for $10

I live near Manchester and I to purchased this part from Manchester vacs at £1.99 inc postage , after having the same issue as you had , id already stripped the bin down and found the broken part , then researched the part and purchased it , and before re fitting the new part I wanted to make sure I was re fitting correctly so found your page here and video ,you made it so simple thanks it just clicked into place , such a great helpful video ,instruction

What we cannot fathom out is how to get the bottom of the rod into position and get the top back on.

Good video. I just ordered this part from the UK as well and wondered what I would be up against. The estimate of delivery was four weeks.

Thanks very much for this video. I didn't have the same problem - I had to replace the top handle which contains the bottom flap release catch - but it was helpful to see it all stripped down. I found out that Dyson don't provide spares for the DC07 any more but I found a supplier (here in the UK) called PartsCentre (UK spelling ;-)) . Ray

I have the opposite problem, my bottom door is stuck closed, I have removed the top, put back on... I can't get the canister to come off the inner cyclone unit no matter what I do... any advice?

I ended up taking the entire thing apart to clean using this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnicnaKklKaVnrs then pay attention at the end, 3:25 mark, what they don't tell you, that makes it all so much easier, if you pull up the trigger while putting it back in place, it all lines up so much easier!!!! everything has been smooth since.

My problem is that the bin lid release pull loop on my wife's DC07 broke off (in two). I super-glued it back together once and it held for a while, but then it broke again. I just glued it again, but, I expect that it will probably break again. I am going to try a search the place you bought your parts from and see if I can find the part there. But, it doesn't look good. I have search everywhere for this part, and even the entire top piece. But, I haven't had any luck on previous searches.

I had that exact same problem! However I don't think I have a T15 whatever you called it. Is there something else I can use or do you need to take the top off at all to replace the part at the bottom? Won't the piece come out without taking the top off?

You in theory don't need to remove the top, but it makes it much easier.

By "lower" do you mean tilting the vacuum back into the carpet cleaning position? Or do you mean sliding the handle back down into the hose after using it? For the first, I would check to make sure nothing is jammed in the hinge mechanism, and the second is usually caused by a blockage in the hose.

@@Rustbelt_Research Yes, exactly, the lowered working position. I put my foot on the depressed area where Im suppose to and try to pull it down and it wants to stay upright. Afraid to try too hard because I don’t want to break it. Came on suddenly …..I’ve checked everywhere, please describe exactly where I should look. Many thanks.

Disassemble the top, and make sure the rod hasn't slipped out of the guide.

I can't get the yellow cyclone part off of the main body. Pulling the release under the handle doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

It's likely this same part, or that the rod has popped out of the small guide. You can force the bottom open, but you will break this latch piece doing so.

Now that I've owned both (no longer have the DC17, that's what the DC14 I currently have replaced) I can say that the DC17 definitely cleans better, and is easier to repair. But the DC07 is much quieter, and lighter weight.

@@parwaz7861I actually gave my DC017 to a friend of mine, after picking up the DC14. He still has it and is using it. And no, I plan on keeping the DC07 as my backup, since it really works quite well, and I'll be honest, I just like the way it looks.

Just unscrew the three screws at the top. Tis will reveal the rod and release mechanism, Take the bin canister off (not easy), remove the waste and the locking mechanism will be revealed. You should be able to release the lid without the rod interfering with the locking mechanism. Then investigate why it's jamming.

Did you even need to remove the top hat? Could you just pop the old latch clip out and put the new one in?

You need to open the top when the latch activator rod has come out of the guide.
