Indeed, except for the very small percentage of us able to dedicate the substantial financial and spacial resources for a “perfect” listening/ viewing room, compromises will rule our calculus. Minor annoyances such as staircases, picture windows, asymmetry, traffic patterns through doorways tend to get in the way of our wants. AFAIC, along with not enough covered parking space for our Lamborghinis, Maybachs, etc, these are the epitome of first world problems.

Otherwise when set it LFE+Main, it send a copy of the low frequencies to the Subwoofer and it sounds better with more body.

Absolutely great video, just got my first AVR and it is the 70s. This is super helpful! In your opinion, will the Dolby Atmos configuration with the front heights sound better and more immersive than using only ear-level configuration with rear backs? Also, how big of a difference in sound quality did you notice by adding the Outlaw power amplifier compared to the internal Marantz amplification? And third: if I play a 9.1 channel source, but I have only 7.1 channel AVR - do I lose the sound from 2 channels or do I somehow get all the 9.1 sound information into the 7.1 channels?
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
Having front heights gives this really cool audible illusion that your TV is now massive, so you might like that. Using an external amp definitely improves the overall fidelity and level of detail your speakers can output, since it’s definitely going to be a lot to handle with the internal amps, given that it’s rated at 50 wpc with only 2 channels driven. And which 9.1 source are you referring to? Nowadays anything above 7.1 would either be Atmos or DTS:X which will conform to whatever speaker configuration you have. 👍
@pavelmarchev1468 Жыл бұрын
@@ealanosborne Thank you for the reply! I was just wondering what would happen if the source is with a different surround format than my speaker configuration. Lets say I play 9.1 format movies on my 7.1 Marantz - will I lose information from those 9.1 channels from the source for example? That's 2 more channels than what I have, so I guess the sound from 2 of the 9.1 channels will be lost? Or maybe I have only a 2.1 configuration, but I want to play a 5.1 source (a blu-ray movie, a 5.1 surround SACD, or whatever else) - will I lose information from these 3 channels difference (between 5.1 and 2.1)?
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
@@pavelmarchev1468 Ah. Gotcha. Yeah, the typical standard before Atmos was 7.1, so you should be good there. But regardless, AVRs should be able to properly up mix and down mix various sources to conform to your speaker layout. They’re pretty smart like that now.

Hi Ealan, great informative video. I have just purchased the Marantz Cinema 70 with a 5.1 Monitor Audio Bronze package. I have it all set up and have run the Audyssey calibration and has given me the following levels: Front L/R -6.5dB, Centre -9.5dB, Surround -9.5dB. I have checked these with the dB app and they all read 38dB +/-1dB. So it looks all the levels are matched. The only issue I have is the overall volume coming out the speakers. Basically you need to crank up to the volume to 70 to get a decent “loudness”. Is there anything I can do to increase the volume output, or is this just what I can expect from this amp (being 50W a channel) and therefore would need a pre-to boost performance and output levels. Let us know what you (or any others) what you think. Thanks
@ealanosborne9 ай бұрын
When running Audyssey, what is the main volume level set at? I typically put the Cinema 70S’s main volume output to 50 as a reference level while it’s outputting the test tones/pink noise, etc. But also, -9.5dB is pretty low as it is. I’d maybe just do some math so that you can have your levels closer to 0. So maybe since the Front L/R is 3 dB louder than the rest of the system, I’d maybe set them to +3dB, and the rest to 0 dB. Make sense? Raising the trim levels closer to 0 dB will allow you to not have to raise the main volume level so high to reach decent listening levels. 👍

The Cinema line has this new graphic user interface, so it would be quite different with previous versions.
@fonkenful Жыл бұрын
As this is a lengthy video, I may well comment throughout the run time as questions come to mind. First one is that as the sample receiver Cinema 70 is paradoxically the entry level of the new series, there may well be folks choosing it for more practical size and who already have several power amps in their collection. I assume that the DSP would be agnostic as to at whether any combination of internal amp channels and RCA line outputs that might be used to feed higher power external amps. I’ve done that with three successive receivers (Denon & Onkyo) using internal amp stages for only the surround channels. This substantially reduces the load on internal power supply, which to my mind is always a good thing. In the Bi-amp mode, is there the option for digital crossover of the front mains channels for DIYers such as myself with loudspeakers intentionally lacking internal passive networks for this exact implementation. One of my previous Onkyos had that exact function, and it was very convenient when experimenting with different two way speaker builds. Not quite as flexible in terms of slope rates and parametric EQ as full fledged DSP components such as miniDSP, but essentially a free functionality, and doesn’t require a laptop for setup. Until I bite the bullet and campaign with SWMBO to cut holes in the ceiling for Atmos, I’m stuck with a 5.1.2 configuration. Having just sprung for a pretty good deal on a new LG 77B2 OLED, that might be a while yet 😊
@fonkenful Жыл бұрын
OK, I see that you did address part of my above comments at around the 39 minute mark - just my impatience at work. 😊
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
I didn’t notice a digital crossover feature. When it comes to manual DSP adjustments, the Cinema 70s is pretty basic, which isn’t surprising. 🤷♂️ The extent of any DSP adjustments is the fact that it has a parametric EQ where you can raise or lower the dB levels of fixed frequencies. Although you can’t change the frequency or Q factor, so it’s pretty basic. You would indeed need a MiniDSP to make any real custom DIY changes. Womp womp 🫠

One final question - re the Sub outs. It doesn’t appear they’re independent on the 70, but I believe at some point in the new Mosimo product series, they do become so. Would you be able to provide an addendum to run down the additional setup steps for that?
