An example of how phenominal EWF are as a band and why they will forever remain a staple idea of R&B in the 70's.

Maurice white's vision almost didn't happen. It was his manager That encouraged Him to bring in younger people to support His vision I said this before A lot of people didn't know that Philip Bailey And the rest of The guys Did not start in the very beginning of Earth wind and fire. The earlier guys were Maurice white Age Maurice white did not wanna be a routine black Group He wanted to cross over And expand The sound! That was very hard to do back then The radio stations were very segregated But a little tenacity And he did it With the help of Charles stepney That's the way of the world put them on the map that was their 1st biggest hit! The rest is history 40 years and still going.!💯

This takes me back to being a kid at family BBQ's in the park, drinkin' lil hugs and running around til it got dark outside and mom had to call us in as the streetlights came on!!! The good old days!!!!
A lot of musical energy right there. Used to crank this song on my dad's Yamaha CR1020 with the big Jensen LS6 speakers. Saw EWF at Cleveland Richfield Coliseum in 78, I was blown away, still am, fan forever.

Their concerts from 1979 seem to be their best. Always good no matter what or when. But the energy here at that time seemed to be at their most highest. And always it's such a pleasure to see Maurice White perform. Amazing!!!!

PHENIX HORNS, featuring the late, great Mr. Donald Myrick on alto saxophone; I can't recall the other three ... wait, Louis Satterfield on Trombone; he showed Verdine how to play bass ... the others are Michael Ramlee, trumpet and the last hornman I can't recall. PHENIX HORNS would eventually leave EWF, and join Phil Collins' touring band ... I saw em at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena in 85 - they wore melon-orange suits, against the grunge look of Phil's band. Still an unforgettable music night in the Burgh. PhilC is still a legendary talent. drummer/vocalist/arranger.

tracy smith Maurice White and his Brother are from my city MEMPHIS, TN. He was born in MEMPHIS on DEC, 19, 1941. He later became a session drummer in 1963 for Chess Records and later in 1969 started his own band which was i believe the salty papers. I know cause i'm a musician in Memphis where i was born and raised. I also have met on more than one occasion Al Green who's church is in the same district in Memphis where i live. Maurice and his Brother like i said were born in Memphis Tn, as well as Aretha Franklin who later with her family moved to Detroit. We've also met the late Issac Hayes who also was a Memphian. And i used to live in the very neighborhood Elvis Presley's uncle lived, as a matter of fact i lived down the street from him where i grew up. Look up the different people who was born and or raised in Memphis. Peace and Love.
@oneperson11389 жыл бұрын
tracy smith Also when you do your research you will find out that k. Michelle, the actress Kathy Bates, The Bar-keys, Mable Staple and the Staple singers, Eight Ball and MJG, Yo Gatti, Richard Hamilton, Cybill Sheperd, and Steve Harvey's wife, are all from Memphis. And that is not even half of the many people either from or have lived in Memphis for years, such as Steven Seagal. When you ask Justin Timberlake where he's from, yep, you guested it, he will tell you Memphis. Even though he's from Memphis county, which is Millington, its in the Memphis area, and he will tell you Memphis. Many of them either still lives here or comes back from time to time to visit. Peace

tracy smith I can dig it,and have no doubt the rest of EWF are from Chi town, but if you read my first comment you will see that i said that the one who started the band, Maurice White who is the leader along with his brother are from Memphis....lol I've always liked Earth Wind and Fire and its good to also see someone like yourself who's into music. Peace and love to you.
