Thank you!!! Almost a life saver. My wife's chair was actual scraping the floor. I used HVAC aluminum foil tape instead of the pop can. Works great! Now the question is why they build these chairs to fail.

Tell me please because I do not have the tools or the knowledge to cut aluminum can. How can I use that HVAC aluminum foil tape? how many layers of the HVAC aluminum foil tape did you use? Is it east to cut that HVAC aluminum foil tape?
@hatemkamal16824 жыл бұрын
Did you put the HVAC aluminum foil tape around the tube instead of inside the opening of the base?
@Rongstad4 жыл бұрын
@@hatemkamal1682 Yes, I put it around the tube. The HVAC aluminum foil tape cuts with a regular scissors. As to how much to use, trial and error. I did a couple of wraps around at first, put the chair back together. It was still too low so I did some more. It was fine then. But a couple of weeks later, it had sunk some, so I took it apart and applied a bit more tape. So far, so good.
@DustinRogersinMO4 жыл бұрын
@@hatemkamal1682 a standard pair of scissors can cut an aluminum can. You may have to poke a hole below the top rim to get it started though.

This was such a fantastic hack. It was too early in the morning to kill a beer. So I was able to use aluminum foil. I folded one sheet over on itself and wrapped it around the bottom like tape. That got me another half inch, which made all the difference. Again, great hack!

Came across your video as I had the same problem. I didn’t have a can handy, got to the same result by applying a couple wraps of foil HVAC tape to the part of the cylinder that inserts into the base. Regular duct tape may have worked too but would probably turn into a sticky mess if you want to disassemble later. The fix allows me to postpone $80 for a new base and cylinder at least for a while. Thanks 👍

I did this and also added some spacers to the base where the screws go into the seat and was able to increase the height by a good amount. Such a game changer. Thank you!

I snagged a chair for free from someone who said the chair didn't roll very well. The cylinder was all the way touching the ground, so that was the only issue. It was a pain to get the legs off the cylinder because it had slid down so far, but finally got it! Good thing I have a rubber mallet.

Thank you so much for creating your video! Your video seems to be the only one out there to deal with this particular issue. My office chair mid-post was four to five finger width down and it destroyed my chair mat. It took a LOT of wacking to get the post from the wheelbase and I used two layers of cans just to make sure. I have to especially thank you since the height of my chair was causing neck & shoulder problems since I was sitting too low. So I'm hoping your hack will help me from further pain. I'm wondering if older chairs that didn't have plastic wheelbases had this issue?

I need like an extra 2 inches on my chair. I hope this'll work, thanks for sharing! If it don't work, as a temporary solution, my other idea was to just get a bunch of USPS or UPS carboards and stack them under my carpet that my Chair sits on, or to simply buy some cheap but thick-ish carpets that'll be enough to raise my chair by around 2 inches from being under my main carpet where the chair sits lol! Original idea was to get a 2 inch piece of wood but I think that'll feel weird when stepping on unless I sanded all 4 edges down at a nice smooth angle. I shouldn't have gotten rid of my 400 dollar chair, that one actually went up high enough all on it's own smh.

So i thought the can was used so that the top of the cylinder rested on the protruding edge of the can. But I imagine when the tape you used it was just to give that tapered edge something to grip to so it didn't slide down too far below the leg-stand thing?

@@nickwillis1454 yeap! That and it increases the radius of the tapered bottom of the leg stand, that way the can’t slide lower. In my case the leg stand was very low, almost 2 inches or lower
