This was awesome, Cas. I got myself a reusable bendable extendable microfiber dusting wand, but it didn't even come close to clean when I put the head through the wash after using it for dusting the first time, so now I wrap a wet microfiber cloth around the end and secure it with rubber bands, making sure to cover the entire removable head - that way, all I have to do is change the rag when it gets dirty enough, then throw the rags in the wash when I'm done. Am I the only one who keeps waiting for the "thank you to those of you who stayed to the end"?🤣

Oh my gosh, love both of you ladies so much! I've been following both of you for years! As far as the swiffer duster goes, I had one, and instead of buying the replacement, I just wrapped a microfiber cloth around the end and secured it with an elastic. Works like a charm!

Very nice podcast. I purchased many microfiber cloths from Makers Clean and I have to admit they are by far superior quality than any other I did try from several companies including Ecloths . The latest product the scratch cloth is also very effective, durable and nicely designed. Melisa is so informative and a joy to listen when she shares her knowledge on the cleaning process and tools. Highly recommended.

I really enjoy and look forward to both of your videos and podcasts. I am always learning so much and I am constantly amazed at how down to earth and encouraging you both are. Years ago my mother cleaned apartments and gave me several tips that have always stayed with me and helped so much. One tip had to do with the bathroom. She said that if I will take the couple of extra minutes and wipe down the shower and sink when I'm done, my "deep cleaning" later on wouldn't take all day. And she was right. I try to do this because I found out that a little extra time now saves lots more time later on. I have to remember "work smarter, not harder." Looking forward to your next video/podcast!

Cas, With my teen I have let go asking him to clean his room. He’s 16. I say things like ‘I’m not going to ask you to clean your floor but I do need to vacuum.’ He usually begins to clean up his clothes! I didn’t ask anything. I just made a suggestion. I use to bug him about his room but it wasn’t working. He’s so thankful now that I quite nagging about his room.

Most people never dust their houses at all. I clean houses for a living and most had an inch of dust when I started. Apparently I’m a strange pro cleaner. I don’t spray and wait 15 min. I spray and wipe. 🤷🏻♀️ I do agree with her on disposable products and disinfecting. I use disinfectant in the homes I clean but I almost never use them in my home (pandemic or not!)

I am re-listening to this because the first time I used it to fall asleep because your voices are so calming. While sleeping, Cass was cleaning my house with me! Melissa, I watch your videos, too. And I'm going to round up all my cleaning supplies, look up their names on your channel and see how to clean with them and use up the HUGE pile of stuff I have. Thank you both for this video.

Love the trips and tricks. However, keeping the earth in mind, did you know that when microfiber cloths and synthetic clothes are laundered, an average of 9 million microfibers are released that wastewater treatment plants cannot remove and end up in the ocean and affecting marine life.😢 What happened to damp dry cotton cloths to clean/dust.

No body loves cleaning...haha.....but I like both of your cleaning methods! I am old school...but I have done both of your methods...so I mix them up....when I clean...I look around the room and scan up and down and around the room first to see what needs done...then start at the door way clock wise....I get my Tidy Tote and a trash bag...I always do the trash first...then I do a quick declutter through the room...then do a quick tidy and dust the furniture...then I do the floor if it is needed or run my rumba....If I have items that doesn't belong in the room...I put it in the Tidy Tote...and wait until after I am finished with the room or sometimes I wait until I am finished cleaning several rooms or until the Tote is full..same with the trash bag..lol...then I will take the items where they go....Its much easier for me...than running all over the house taking items back to where they belong...I am old..and tore the meniscus in my left knee...so its hard for me to run here and there! But I do get it all done!

10:19 I've come to find I HATE microfiber. Anytime i try to dry dishes it just smears the water around (doesn't absorb it), same thing with trying to dry your hands. Also, during the wintertime when your hands are dry and chapped, the microfiber materials clings to your skin and I HATE that feeling. Big icky feeling.

If you are blessed enough to own fine antique furniture, do NOT ever allow liquid product, even water, to stand on those surfaces; it will ruin them. You can probably get away with extended dwell time on Ikea quality junk, or if it gets ruined, no big deal to replace it. Modern surfaces such as laminate do need time for cleaning products to be effective.
@dianasimplifies Жыл бұрын
And stop using crappy pledge on your antiques. That stuff is awful.

Great podcast but for the microfiber cloth. Here is the reason not to promote microfiber:Microfibers can harm the small aquatic organisms that ingest them. Microfibers can also contain toxic chemicals that are intentionally added to textiles during the manufacturing process or that accumulate on plastic particles in the ocean.

I'd love to use more microfiber cloths but what am I doing wrong? After I cleaned really dusty stuff, like blinds and doorframes, my cloths came out of the wash looking as dirty as they went in - all covered in balls of dust, lint, hair. Yuck! Is that a sign of a bad/cheap cloth and not that I did something wrong?
@dianasimplifies Жыл бұрын
I use a mix of era detergent and water in a bottle and just wet each dirty cloth with that mixture and throw in the wash. Mine come out clean and I clean houses for a living so mine are pretty filthy as well. Hope this helps!

As a mature parent with grown adult married children, one thing I would have done differently, is if I made cleaning more 'fun' by cleaning along with the kids. Easier said than done, but 2 out of my 3 children are on the messier side, and had I made it fun for them, I believe they would be cleaner today.
