I only started painting a year ago (I'm 50 now) and I did this one and your style of painting is the best and easiest for me to do so I did this one. I absolutely LOVE this . I am just starting out in my journey to learn brush painting I normally do paint pouring but am really excited to try my hand at abstract brush painting with acrylics. I have everything I need except for a table top easel lol. I have even purchased canvases that are already pre gessoed black so that will help. Lol . All paintings need a lot of work, but they just get better and better. I love the Bob Ross Floral Medium as it is nice and thin and spreads so easy. Just be sure it is not on too thick or it becomes too slippery. I would love to see a picture if you wold like to share. [e-mail]

As my country do not sell oil medium, can I use liquin, linseed oil instead? Over here, the oils are specific like poppy oil, safflower oil... the shop doesn't have a generic oil medium. Just wonder if liquin can be the equivalent of the oil medium you used in the video.

Yes Spike, you can use linseed oil, walnut oil, safflower oil, poppy oil, and even Liquin. The difference with Liquin is it's a really fast drying medium where as the others are very slow. Liquin dries in about 24 hours, and starts getting tacky in about 1 hour. I use liquin only when I am in a real hurry. Hope that helps you out!

Just make sure when you use any of the oil mediums that it is spread on your canvas as thin as possible. Otherwise it becomes too slipery to paint on properly. Best of luck.

@@HellsBells-74 Gesso stops oil paint from absorbing though the canvas Helen. Acrylic will do the same thing, only acrylic dries harder, smoother, and leaves more of a shine than gesso. If you have gesso, it's better, if not, you can always use acrylic. 😍

I did only one other on black with a friend but this was by far the most satisfying. I want to do it again in cobalt violet. (I just got some!) I have only been into any kind of art since Sept. and started with colored pencils and graduated to oils. Just watched your "dew drops". I will be trying those out on a painting of lilies of the valley after the next night sky. >

Thank you so much for that lesson. I have been painting with acrylics for almost 2 yrs and have been thinking about oil painting because of the blendability of it. I've used slow drying mediums which help some in the blending process, however I just don't get that effect I'm trying to achieve. My question is, once I start painting with oils do I need to designate those brushes solely to oil paints or can I continue to use them with acrylics as well? Appreciate anyone's reply.

Thank you for that question Martha. Everyone say to have a separate set of brushes. One for acrylic and one for oil. I do have separate sets, but if I need a brush for oil that has been used with acrylic, I clean it real well and use it. If I need a brush for acrylic that has been used with oil, I clean it well and use it with acrylic. I have a couple of videos that may help you.
