Ladies, you had me tearing up here. Lovely video!!! When I looked at both of you, I saw me and my mother in her kitchen baking our Christmas cakes together. We bake about nine cakes in one big batch in a big tub. She's mixing and I am passing the ingredients and holding the stool that the tub is standing on. We ole talk and reminisce on all kinds of long-time stories (just like you did). I just love that time with her. This year I am trying to surprise her by baking them myself (wish me luck). But just looking at you two, I am now tempted to just let the cat out of the bag so that we can do it together. Oh... she does that SAME kind of measurement that you did with the Angostura Bitters..one, two and a long or big last one 🙂Seasons Greetings to both of you lovely ladies.

Yes, I think you should do it together. Instead of a surprise which would be for your satisfaction, give her the memory of the whole experience that will be much more satisfying for the both of you. Maybe, you can even record it, to look back at long after she's no longer with you. Wish I still had my mummy to bake with.

I don’t know who you are, but I do know how ignorant and unkind you are. You’ve made that blatantly obvious. This mother and daughter are sharing their family’s way of making traditional black cake. It interests me because my mother was born and raised in Trinidad and she also made her own browning sauce, but like her daughter said, it was just always there, I never really knew what it was. To someone who is now approaching 80, my mother feels closer to me now than ever before, and this Christmas I’m going to make a damn rummy black cake. I don’t have the huge glass crocks full of dried fruit soaking in rum and Angostura bitters, and lemon for months, but I compensate. So you see, it matters to me. My mother and father also spoke as they do. If you’re knowledgeable about history, you’ll know that until 1962, Trinidad was a part of the British West Indies, it flew the British flag and the British language melded into local accents. It happens. It’s not a crime or anything to get your panties in a twist about. Try to be kind. The rewards are much greater. 🙂
