I think it's kind of weird how many raw food vegans don't seem to care at all about eating seasonal/locally grown fruits and veggies. They gladly buy durian and papaya from across the world.

It is really weird, especially since they cite environmentalism as a reason to go vegan - but they buy exotic fruit out of season that's shipped overseas?? Completely illogical.

I'm currently transitioning back to vegan (was raised vegan, then vegetarian, then omni), and trying to get rid of this all or nothing mentality has been my biggest struggle. It was great to hear you address it and say exactly what I've been trying to tell myself - that any positive move in the right direction is way better than nothing. Currently I'm making all of my homecooked food vegan, as that's easy for me, and when I'm at someone's house for dinner, I tell them not to worry about it and that I'll eat whatever they provide. When I go out for dinner I eat vegan if it's available, and vegetarian if it's not. I have a really hard time with not being 100% vegan yet, but I keep reminding myself that all of these changes do make a difference. It might not be 100% yet, but it is so so much better than 0%. Thank you for addressing this in an understanding and positive way, it really helps to hear this stuff as someone who is in the transition period. :)

Not eating garlic or onions was very funny to me. I just wanted to become vegan, never wanted to follow the low-fat diets. Actually, the whole avoid garlic and onions thing was a spiritual element of Hindus who were seeking enlightenment in their faith. I had Googled this to figure out why. Raw foodist seem to have adopted this because it sounded good to them, with no explanation why.

I have to tell you how much I LOVE your channel! I have been following you on and off for about a year now (been Vegan for nearly 2), and I love being able to watch someone who can review other information out there, with a Critical Thinking approach. You certainly have even more of a handle on the current studies than I have been able to keep up with, or wrap my brain around, at times. And I pride myself at being the one, in my group of friends and acquaintances, that can poke holes in "health fads" that are based on erroneous "facts". I also have to loudly applaud you for this series of videos, reviewing your past vids, and critiquing your own food concepts of the past. My opinion is, it takes a brave person, with integrity, to admit that they are wrong, even when it is "the younger me". Growing up/older means GROWING, and if one can't be open to to Learning New Things, then Growth becomes stunted. So, I am LOVING watching your process! Thank-you!

You would probably get smacked in Jamaica for taking people's garlic and salt. When I got sick from the plane going to Jamaica, my aunt juiced garlic for me. She's too healthy for me. What they do is lots of seasoning, lots of variety, and everything is organic because everyone has at least ten fruit trees growing in their yard. It's not just mangos either, there's papaya, jackfruit, breadfruit, and those are all the size of your head. There are a lot of smaller fruit trees that will just be in the front of office buildings. Plus, there's people selling ginip and bananas on the side of the road, open markets, etc. non-tropical people don't know how bad they have it. I can almost see being raw there somehow. but I don't know about in the US on a diet of apples, oranges, and bananas.

I have a question for you! what are your thoughts as a vegan on the use of insects as fish and livestock feed? obviously not a very vegan concept, but as an alternative to stripping the rainforest apart to grow soy for cattle etc. is there any benefit? Should we be talking more about it? in many ways it's just meat-eaters justifying beef because the cattle feed has a lower environmental impact whilst actually killing far more creatures. BUT it could be marginally better for the planet? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!

I consume most of my food raw and yet I'm not a member of any cult. What's more, I eat numerous things that most other people in the Western world would considered non-edible or tasteless: fruit peels (e.g., melon, watermelon, overripe banana, kiwifruit), certain fruit seeds (melon, watermelon, grapes), green leaves (cauliflower, broccoli, beet, onions, artichoke), stems/peduncles (carrots, onions, cauliflower, cabbage, sweet pepper, artichoke), carob pods, kidney bean pods, faba bean pods, pea pods, fish bones, skin, brain, eyes, testes, heart and liver, etc. On the other hand, there are certain foods and beverages that I rather consume cooked, boiled, roasted, steamed, or stewed/brewed/infused: tea, mint, cocoa powder, fish and seafood (except for anchovies), cereals, beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, artichoke (raw is almost tasteless and hard to swallow), buckwheat, quinoa, soymilk, tofu, tempeh, natto.
