Basically, 2 months later none of his hopes had come true in college 😭 😂 Pretty much freshman year of college in a nutshell for many of us! When comparing yourself now vs. "then", the fact that you were just as certain of your food ideas back then as you are today raises the question as to whether the future 'you' will look back on the present 'you' and have a similar response to the one you have today, i.e. you will wonder how you could have been so silly and misinformed. And that, of course, implies that our understanding of science and physiology and human metabolism is constantly moving forward and as it does, new knowledge is brought to bear on our dearly held beliefs and said beliefs are called into question. So, what is indubitably, inexorably, everlastingly true in all of this? For me, it is that animals are precious beings and ought not be harmed by humans, not for food or anything else. THAT, I assert, will be as true 1,000 years from now as it is today.

And yet, despite the questionable science, the raw food movement attracted tens of thousands of followers and made millions for its leading lights, like David Wolfe, who became nothing less than a guru for thousands of fawning acolytes. Uh ok if you're gonna make that argument its actually common knowledge that the discovery of fire and cooking was a critical point in modern human development. Because people could eat more types of food by cooking it, they didnt have to work as hard to get enough food to survive and could focuse on non survival activities that make us the humans we are today. Also, humans learned how to cook WAY before homo sapiens were even a species. Cooking is a habit of prehumans documented as early as 2.3 million years ago.

I actually love going to supermarkets when I travel! Food is part of culture and visiting supermarkets is an experience. And i love that your cat is chasing fairies in the background. I have been travelling extensively and vegan since the early 90s and it was only a problem is certain places, but even then, I always carry peanut butter and preserves and bread can be bought in almost any place for little money. I have never found the raw fad to be alluring and intuitively it seemed unhealthy and limiting. As vegans we should be getting enough raw fruit and veg, but cooked food is essential in order to feel satisfied and to get more nutrients in condensed form. so in almost 3 decades, i have never jumped onto that bandwagon or the gf one. i feel like people who do raw are in competition and the way they talk about food and obsess over it strikes me as disordered.
@elleflower36447 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with raw veganism as being the optimal human diet but I wouldn't say it's fair to assume that everyone feels that it is a burden or restriction. My Japanese apartment is about 178 square feet. One of the main reasons it suits me just fine is because it has a western style closet (rod for hanging clothes around eye level with a shelf above), a lot of places have a Japanese style closet which has no rod for hanging anything, is much deeper than necessary, and has a really inconvenient shelf right smack dab in the middle around waist level, so even if you install a rod pretty much the only things you could hang in there are t-shirts. Having no place to hang dress pants by the waistband, dresses, long skirts, or longer coats is really annoying.
