Those shrimp are likely de-veined already, though. That's only something you need to do if it's whole shrimp, which it wasn't. But yeah, she used pre-cooked frozen shrimp, and he used raw. Which, honestly, might've made the dish better, because they wouldn't have been massively overcooked and rubbery like the original probably was.

ham and bananas hollandaise was super popular in the 70s for some reason. I've found accounts of people saying they enjoy it, but I've never been able to figure out WHY it came into existence in the first place. Was there a surplus of bananas? Was it seen as a luxury? Was it just some sort of sick joke? I need answers.

Allegedly, I he popular banana breed that they ate back then wasn't as sweet as the stuff we eat now. That breed of banana went extinct, so now we eat a different kind. How To Cook That has a great video about banana horticulture and how our modern bananas are also facing an extinction risk due to an extremely contagious fungus in the soil!

I’m not on TikTok but I’m happy to see a food account that’s not purposely rage baiting, it’s just simple southern people. Does it always make sense? No, but it’s fun to watch and everyone’s moms had their own way of cooking. My mom cooked pretty simply too but we’re midwestern so it was lots of mayo and steamed vegetables from a can depending on the season and not a lot of flavor. I love that this mom is like whatever son this is what I’m cooking you can put it on the internet
@MontyDotharl
@MontyDotharl 3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure it's so genuine, some of this is definitely done to get attention. But it is at least much, much better and less cynical than stuff like the people spreading food all over the counter or in a toilet or whatever. It feels more like they're purposefully playing up the Southern characters, but it's still at least adjacent to what they're actually like. Like they're parodying themselves.

Here’s my famous shrimp Alfredo recipe because that shrimp Alfredo hurt my soul 1. Get a bag of frozen bad of large deshelled and de veined shrimp and thaw it out in water. 2. Pre heat some water with enough salt to make it taste like salt water and two tablespoons of olive oil. 3. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter on medium heat in a deep sauce pan and add as much garlic paste as your tastebuds can tolerate. 4. I don’t have to explain how to cook pasta. Cook it al dente 5. Once the shrimp is thawed and the butter is melted season with Cajun seasoning, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, old bay, paprika, Cayenne powder. Over season. Season until you are sneezing. 6. Once shrimp is fully cooked, add your fav jarred Alfredo sauce. 7. When pasta is drained, add butter to the pasta. As much as you want. More than a tablespoon maybe? Idk I measure with my heart. And finally MIX it had made friendships and kept my relationship alive. It has made shrimp haters eat shrimp. I believe it could resolve all man’s conflicts.

@Levi-dk2yl I usually buy a lot of more expensive spices and such because they last a while and mean that I can use cheaper ingredients. I would probably actually glaze the spam with pineapple juice and brown sugar and season the pineapples with a little bit of Cajun spices. If you fry spam and then glaze it it has more of a fried tofu texture which is much better than raw spam

Tbf, my grandfather is Japanese, grew up in Hawaii, and lived through the 50s-70s: he makes some very surprising combination foods! 😅 (One involves pickling Japanese eggplant from his garden and then marinating it in a mustard-mayo bath inside of a jar in his fridge! It’s one of his favs and several of his Filipino and Korean friends also enjoy it though, plus 90% of my disgust at that combo come from not liking eggplant or mustard, so it could also be a MUCH more popular sauce/combo/solution than I am aware!)

the fact that i looked at that pineapple sandwich and went "well in the grand scheme of things that really doesn't look THAT bad" says a lot about my standards. not just for food, even, but for life in general.

Toast with ham, pineapple and molten cheese is great, btw. "Toast Hawaii" is a very normal thing here in germany and very popular even underneath people who dislike Pizza Hawaii.

As someone who grew up white trash, I'm incredibly offended at how accurate every word out of your mouth was. 😂 But for real, ham with pineapple, brown sugar, and butter is the only way I've ever made a holiday ham. And as a vegetarian I highly recommend tofurky brand ham (it's vegan) made the same way.

last week I listened to an NPR special about ice pick lobotomies while eating pasta with marinara, and I had to click away to collect myself during the “alfredo shrimp” segment. gave me PTSD flashbacks to the _two different_ customers at the deli where I used to work who would order (and pay real money for) “coleslaw water,” the cursed milky liquid left in the bottom of a large dish of coleslaw.

that sounds like a common thing, oddly. it's probably sweet, savory, and salty which all three tastes complement one another and should be surprisingly good. I never actually had them together. But I had, once as a teenager, some pickle and peanut butter together, which was surprisingly just okay. not great. I remember doing it cause I've heard Selena Gomez liked that as a snack. So, that's not bad, imo.

These are food crimes that could lend me in jail if made them, and that would be fair. Edit: Btw "Je n'ai pas parlé le français" means "I haven't spoken the French", so yeah, we believe you Jakey.
