Tolle's description reflects chaos theory (natural law), the theory of complexity (natural law) and the "principle" of spontaneous order (natural law ) which reflects the outward impulse of creating (unpredictable) and a returning, to self-soothe (handle that stress). I love the "Playful participation in the world of form without being lost in the doing, unrooted from spaciousness within." I seek to be in constant contact with the formless essence of the universe
@aeonsleo28 жыл бұрын
What he is speaking is the nature of the Universe as described by the scriptures in ancient India. A person has a soul which is a part of the divine consciousness. The body is material which differentiates but consciousness is eternal which integrates. Once we know this true consciousness and link with each other at that level, we forget that a person is black or white, rich or poor, greedy or needy because all that involves our body form in some way or the other. When we look at ourselves as not what we look in the mirror but what we really are from inside at soul level we see our truer self. And when we see that self in others we understand that nothing is different and its all the same.
@MrGunwitch8 жыл бұрын
Everything you talk about is miccha ditthi (wrong view). There is no such thing as a soul nor divine consciousness, everything is impermanent and non-self. The only 'task' is to bring out cessation of the five khandas.

Abhishek "The body is material which differentiates but consciousness is eternal which integrates." That's a great sentence.

It sounds good but it is fundamentally flawed. Consciousness isn't eternal, it arises due to causes and conditions, and when those causes and conditions are no longer present it ceases. I recommend reading these pages from Ajahn Brahm's book 'Mindfulness, Bliss and Beyond'. The annotations are included if you want to check the various Nikayas to see what the Buddha actually said about these matters (Eckhart and many other modern teachers like to quote the Buddha, and most of them steal the majority of their teachings from Buddhism, but they don't penetrate deeply enough, and this is one of the several areas they remain ignorant of). books.google.com.au/books?id=ptmMsW16fqkC&pg=PA202&lpg=PA202&dq=consciousness+speck+of+feces+buddha&source=bl&ots=7HFILhpW9Z&sig=4MTbFf6DTgu2JetRsogDsF1ngVI&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjMq7ip3e3RAhXHm5QKHVRiBXUQ6AEIGzAA#v=onepage&q=consciousness%20speck%20of%20feces%20buddha&f=false

MrGunwitch Interesting. I find it agreeable enough to observe the temporal nature of a mind's fleeting presence in time, as pointed out by Nidāna Saṃyutta in that link; and fair enough to say that the body may have more relative permanence than the changing mental identity in time. However, I disagree with the implication that physical reality would have more permanence than spirit. The source of life as a spiritual essence supersedes other forms of being mentioned, as spirit comes before matter and is the source of creation. When people like Eckhart Tolle speak of "consciousness" I believe they mean to convey something of the self which is more closely connected to that spiritual source of life than is the physical body. Because while the physical body may have more stability within a temporal reality, it also has greater limitation, as it is defined mainly by that reality, rather than the mind which can be determined more by the spirit which resides primarily outside of that reality's limitations. ...At least those are my own musings on the subject. Think what you will.
@MrGunwitch7 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith. I understand what you are saying, but you need to be careful when using concepts like 'spirit' or 'cosmic consciousness' or 'eternal consciousness' etc. All of these terms are essentially the same thing, creative creations of the ego, so that it can believe it will exist in perpetuity (in complete happiness no less!). Anyone using these concepts has yet to fully penetrate non-self (Anatta) which is one of the key factors of stream-entry (the first stage of enlightenment). Unfortunately Eckhart is 'guilty' of the same mistake that many meditators and yogis have made over the millennia. What makes it difficult to see, is that the meditative absorption's are extremely profound experiences, and involve states where one feels 'infinite consciousness' and 'one with the universe'. So when Eckhart and Ramana Maharishi and others talk about these things, they are speaking the truth, which is what makes it so difficult to argue with. However, they are only speaking partial truth (or proxy truth), they have yet to go deeper. If they continued on the same path of letting go that took them to their partial realisations then they would see EVERYTHING disappear. Everything is causal and non-self, even the stream of consciousness between lives (Citta) which seems perennial but is not. The fact that these partial realisations that sages like Tolle and Maharishi have understood, are so far beyond the conception of the average person, makes the mistake all the more difficult to spot, because people like Eckhart do really seem to be in possession of esoteric knowledge. This is why the Buddha said that without the guidance of another enlightened being (Ariyan) one would be unable to truly break the 'eggshell' and become enlightened, because there are these tricky cul de sacs that people get caught in, and without an enlightened one telling you "Yes that is a profound experience you've had...now let it go and go deeper...let the 'knower' go, let 'spirit' and the ground of all being go'....keep going till cessation...."without someone guiding you in such a fashion, you will never get there.

@@animusutimperiumk8575 .The astounding success of science hasn't found the formula for peace in one's life yet. Yet we seem to think egoic logic will save the Human race. That kind of logic will lead to an explosive end. If you use impartial logic when listening to a spiritual teacher what the genuine teachers are saying makes perfect sense. But on a much deeper level. But, unlike science, where numbers and equations can give you the proof you need, realizing your true nature can only be experienced. All teachings that teach of who you are at your essence by-passes mundane egoic calculations, and get to the core issues of exsistance. Which all of humanity's geniuses could never explain. gratitude for manipura chakra for helping society to realize that sixteen year olds sometimes have a lot of wisdom and poetic zen subtlety. May more mature spiritual books be available to teens under 18 especially from parents. Conversations with GOD by Neal Donald Walsch is a great manipura chakra book that washes away anachronism from some ancient texts to clarify the unity of a vision of love and zen found in all faiths. This process of making the essential more easy to see and removing animosity is a quality of manipura. Many good manipura books were released in the early 2000s, wise for society to seek a vibration similar to those times. may manipura continue to serve us with the cleanliness efficiency and wisdom that it did in early 2000s before 2010. thank you celestial energy

Just handle the belief/vibration that's attracting it to me..thanks for posting.

The essence that is you, which animates the entire universe is true unconditional love. You are willing to experience everything that you're not and to absolutely forget who you are, in order to know yourself fully. The one asking why, is the thinking mind which is that what you are not. It can never experience true contitional love, because it does not truly exist, it is just a bundle of thoughts. Only you can know yourself as the eternal one conscioussness. Calm the mind and you will know for yourself.

The Divine qualities of Sat-chit-ananda cannot be revealed without taking on the form of the temporal Universe and in the process illusionizes (The Hindus call it Maya) itself as individual life forms. In that sense Maya could be called as mega-ego. Without that we as individual life forms become nonexistent. Similar to a microcosm, the Ultimate too can be thought of as passing through Deep sleep(Total dissolution of the Universe) and samadhi(enlightenment). That is the way it is.

It seems Tolle has bought every lie from Buddha to Blavatsky: would to God we could get him to buy the Truth! (Proverbs 23:23) Jesus said, “Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. (John 12:35) I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE; no one comes to the Father BUT BY ME.” (John 14:6)
@donbakerseattle10 жыл бұрын
Eckhart talks from actual experience he is having now as an awakened human. He is pointing the way the best he can. What lies are you referring to from the Buddha and Blavatsky? I put the Buddha and Blavatsky and Krishnamurti and Laurency before the bible. To "quote" Jesus as supposedly saying no one comes to the father but by me is a falsification. Jesus would not have said it that way, as a divisive idea.
@316ken10 жыл бұрын
Dear Don, I'm sure you're right: Tolle is, "pointing the way the best he can." The problem is, he is pointing you in a totally wrong direction! The "lies" I was referring to concerning him, Blavatsky, Bailey, Besant, Chopra, Dyer, Winfrey (et al) hinge on the fact that not one of them acknowledges Jesus Christ as the Divine Son of God, and ONLY Savior of mankind. Their teaching is limited to a vague "awareness" of some impersonal "Cosmic force/source", and the pagan pantheistic view of "universal oneness", which we are all supposedly a part of. Simply stated, This is NEW AGE DECEPTION verses NEW TESTAMENT REVELATION. Buddha's teachings are of course well documented, and are based on ancient Eastern paganism; such as belief in Reincarnation/karma; the veneration of "Vedic scriptures", and the practice of "Yoga" ("Yoked" to Hinduism). Buddha was very ambiguous as to the existence of a Creator Deity, but he did not deny the existence of the popular gods of the Vedic pantheon. The "swastika" (promoted by Blavatsky, and later adopted by Hitler) is a sacred Buddhist symbol. NOTE: Hitler used Blavatsky’s teachings to justify the annihilation of so-called "inferior species", such as Gypsies, and Jews. On the Theosophical Society’s web site (founded by Blavatsky), you will see the N.A.M. serpent-symbol of wisdom encircling the world-surrounding the interlocking triangles of the pagan hexagram: often referred to as the “Star of David.” In the center stands the “Ankh”, the symbol of Isis or reincarnation, and above it all rules that loathsome, ancient “swastika.” (Some of them were reversed, and tilted to denote ongoing motion.) FINALLY: although I would personally fight for your right to believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is NOT the "only Way to the father in Heaven;" I have staked my "eternal Life" on the belief that He is EVERYTHING He claims to be; and that one glorious day, these Bible verses will be fulfilled... "...At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Phil.2:10-11) (All we have to do is wait and see!) Until then, very best wishes to you in Jesus' wonderful Name. Btw, Jesus was VERY "divisive"... He said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. for I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. and a man's foes shall be they of his own household." (Matt.10:34-36) -- Man, is THAT ever true?

Hello Ken, It always bothers me when followers of the bible pass judgement on all other people who bring messages to mankind, yet have not even read them. Blavatsky and all Theosophical Society recognize the significance of Christ. Blavatsky wrote about Christ for example in Studies in Occultism. And not unfavorably either. Google it. Alice A. Bailey wrote about him as well. Check out her book From Bethleham to Calgary. Laurency wrote about him, and clarified many misconceptions. First of all, the gospels were written long after Christ died, by Egyptian gnostics. Almost none of what is claimed Jesus said is true. We can disregard it. The life of Jesus is made up. The stages of his life are metaphorical, and indicate the initiations mankind will and is going through. Did you know that Jesus’ walking on water is symbolic of overcoming our emotional nature? The Piscean age was the water bearer, and water symbolizes the emotions. But you would know this if you read these sources - Knowledge of Reality, Philosopher’s Stone, Knowledge of Life. These people did not recognize Jesus as the ONLY savior of mankind, because it doesn’t work that way. Jesus does not save people. People choose to better themselves. He supposedly absolved people of their sins, but in reality they needed no forgiveness from him. They forgave themselves because they believed he forgave them their sins. The concept of sin was forced into people from an earlier age, as a way to control them. As Laurency makes clear, the Christ is a position in the planetary hierarchy. This planetary hierarchy consists of beings who have completed their sojourn through humanity and have progressed (thru a series of initiations) to the next kingdom beyond the human kingdom (one of collective consciousness, not heaven). They dedicate themselves to helping humanity to get to the next kingdom. They need not reincarnate as humans any longer. So the Christ is an actual position in the planetary hierarchy called the World Teacher. As Laurency says, the Buddha filled that position before Christ. Jesus (Lord Maitreya) has filled that post the past 2,000 years. So Christ figures into Theosophy in a huge way, you could say dead center, though he is one of many who act collectively in their different posts and efforts for humanity’s betterment. The Christ symbolizes love, and is the center of the Great Invocation mantram, for example. So you don’t lose anything when studying these sources. In fact you see a much grander, beautiful plan for humanity that is not based on old superstitions and fears and separation (like being the ONLY savior). Humanity has evolved from the time of Christ, and these new teachings reflect that. It is understood that each new age needs new teachings for a developing humanity. They are not to be feared. You may have deduced by now that these higher beings (planetary hierarchy) I am referring to are the ones who “channel” information to a few human beings from time to time, such as Blavatsky, Alice Bailey, Laurency, etc. There is a lot of misinformation out there to be sure, and being a skeptic is considered much better than not using discernment. I believe Bailey and Laurency (and Tolle) are among the very best sources that have been given to us to study and hopefully understand. Best wishes, Don

Dear Don, I understand your spiritual position and totally respect it. I also appreciate you clarifying some of Theosophy's precepts and philosophies. However, your concept of, "The Christ as an actual position in the planetary hierarchy called the World Teacher" is so far removed from the Christian view of Jesus Christ as the ONLY Lord and Savior, that I fear we shall never meet on common ground. The "ultimate Christ" of Theosophy and the New Age Movement is NEVER Jesus; but the Bible makes it clear that Jesus is "THE" Christ, (not "A" Christ) and that He is, "The same yesterday, today and forever." For the born again believer, "Jesus Christ IS God; our Co-Creator and soon returning King;" and there is simply no way I would ever water down that glorious confession. "Agreeing to disagree agreeably" is as close to a compromise as I am able to offer you.... I sincerely hope you will reciprocate. Ken.

Hello Ken, I think you need to focus on what makes sense to you, no question. Laurency calls his writing a hypothesis, and only asks that you explore it. He believes it describes the nature of reality better than any other, but if you don't find that to be true for you then don't follow it. Since you identify with your beliefs, it would take quite a leap of faith to consider that the things I've mentioned might be true. Believe me, I know that feeling of fearing I was completely wrong about something, and especially something that shakes your world view. But I've always been able to hold disparate pieces of information that didn't seem to fit, and when and if I find another piece to the puzzle that resonates with it, then I entertain that as well. I've always wanted to know the big picture, but have never felt I had anything to defend. I like Krishnamurti's statement "truth is a pathless land." He said there is no one truth, and no one or no organization can lead you to the truth. The truth cannot be found in one place but not another. You have to find it for yourself. That's our common ground, so no worries.

I like Eckhart, I think he's a peaceful guy who brings people closer to the Buddha-Dhamma, however, he is vastly off the mark here and teaching wrong view. The universe has no divine purpose. As the Buddha (and modern physics) teaches us, things pop into existence and disappear constantly without any need for a reason, it just happens. Everything is impermanent, non-self, and inherently suffering....our human egoic minds seek patterns and meaning where there are none. All that remains to be done is to follow the eightfold path to bring about cessation of these five khandas and end suffering. That's it and that's all!

+Rajesh Rao I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks that. Everyone is stating that his book is great but I find that he's merely plagiarising Eastern cultures and philosophies and repackaging them poorly in a book.

The teaching is not owned by anyone. Debating who came first is of no relevance, that is an ego debate. Obviously, one could argue that Alan Watts for example, as a philosopher, did a more complete job of helping the westerner to understand the eastern traditions to its core. Though the universal experience of consciousness is in all of us, once the source is discovered through direct experiencing, no further books are needed. One does not need to know the eastern traditions for the realization of consciousness, though it can help. Every teacher has their own style based on their personality, which is fine, color and diversity is fun. Once one has realized the source of teaching, the universal core of teaching can be seen in many teachers while not being pedantic about the flavor that they bring.

It is hardly a tredition. You only get enlightened once. It is hard to understand the shiva sutra. Once you do so you attain bliss and forever live in bliss.
