Episode 2 of the Book of Boba Fett introduced us to a pair of new Hutts, equally as large and in charge as Jabba the Hutt. How did Hutts, despite their obvious physical limitations, grow to be one of the most powerful species in the Galaxy? We'll cover that all and more on today's video!

The Hutts weren’t just a crime syndicate they were basically a well established intergalactic entity/industry involved in much of the galaxy’s economy and real estate and that was absolutely invaluable to Palpatine. The empire could have taken them out easy and palpatine even considered it but that would have made too much of a mess of things. It’s kind of like how a government needs large industry to perform properly and effectively

Perfect summation. Jabba was actually a cunning and fierce warrior in his day. Which is how he grew his faction. It would be nice if a current cannon or legends show would portray characters as they are described in other books or in full representation. I do appreciate the nod to the Gamoreans in the current series as being legitimate warriors versus useless pig aliens. Others such as Trandoshans and Bothans I think are overlooked currently.

Yeahhh, this was something I read about in a Legends book. The "machines they placed their bodies in" sound a lot like the Shell Hutts, and the metal shell was also intended to protect them from radiation. In addition to regenerative ability, their skin and flab was just too thick and dense to pierce with a blade, blaster shot, and I think even lightsabers would have trouble, but (I assume high-frequency) radiation could get through. Frustrating that in canon (Clone Wars) a hutt got killed by a single blaster shot......

That's the problem with a lot of Star Wars species: we see one individual from a species and that one becomes the model. Wookiees are all tall, and aggressive and brown haired, just slight costume variations on Chewbacca. All the Hutts are big flabby slug monsters, rather than Jabba just being a grotesquely obese and ancient version of a more lithe, imposing creature in its prime. I want to see a strapping young Hutt in his prime, built like a giant slug version of Connor McGregor. I want to see a bespectacled Wookiee merchant who wears a fob watch and walks with a cane. I want to see a kindly, matronly Devaronian schoolteacher.

Yeah, that's a problem of expanding and building your world. It's also very obvious in Star Trek and other stories. Howdid a race like the klingons or predators even invent space ships in their respective civilizations? The original SW movies presented neat and creative visuals. That's one thing. To build an entire universe and mythos around something that basically was a "visual gag" back in the day is problematic. It's interesting how the Hutts are treated in SWTOR. There's many hutts you can interact with, on Hutta, Nar Shaddaa, and across the galaxy, most are your typical obese crime lord, but there are a couple of exceptions. There is the hutt scientist Dr.Ogorrob, the tallest hutt in the game. And Toborro from the Makeb DLC, who is considered insane and power mad, but does make mention of the "old ways" of the hutts being one of warrior conquest, even building a special war droid to pilot in battle.

A long life is never to be underestimated. Imagine political leaders who live for hundreds of years. They'd have the experience and time to impose far reaching reforms and advance very time consuming schemes. From an economic view, they'd have vast experience in dealing with various species and able to see trends in commerce begin to form simply from what they've witnessed over a millennia. Just look at that in contrast to a human life. Just as we're starting to understand life and gain wisdom our bodies begin to deteriorate. Our elderly years hinder decades of experience with poor memory and reduced ability to concentrate. Even life long political leaders fail to maintain control as old age sets in and their authority and power passes to someone else. Someone younger and less experienced. Our ability to self-govern is hindered by a perpetual lack of experience and not enough time to benefit from any wisdom we do gain. So yeah, the Hutt's owe their power and influence to their long lives combined with a society that vividly remembers a civil war that nearly destroyed them creating a twisted, yet harmonious culture.

I think there are several things you kind of skirted around in this. The Hutt’s long lives allowed them to play the long game, waiting until their adversary was at their weakest before striking. They could nurse a grudge for decades before striking, utterly devastating entire systems if need be, to teach the rest of the galaxy that they were not to be crossed. Another factor is their utter lack of empathy for anything that was not a Hutt. They would think nothing of the Gammorean guards (and Nikto, Klatoonians, etc) that died in their service on a regular basis, and even less of those who tried to stand in their way. Other sentient beings were seen much the same as Droids to them, and were given about the same level of care and thought for their personal well-being. This lack of empathy, coupled with their racism, greed, long lifespans, and physical abilities when sufficiently motivated are the source of their wealth and power.

Well I'm multiple different reasons one hut's may be fat but they can lose the weight pretty quickly and become very muscular. And very powerful in hand-to-hand combat when they want to be. Another thing they're very influential and very charismatic. They know how to talk to the right people to get things done when they don't have to. Their skin can handle flamethrowers and other such even blaster bolts is not guaranteed to kill a hut. Huts can regenerate from even having their entire face ripped off. And if you kill a Hut you lived a regret it the only reason why Leia got away with it. Was because she was too powerful in the new Republic setting it up. So killing her would be bad for business the huts can live for thousands of years too. And huts never forget or let go of a grudge so easily. And also huts can eat people that who get in their way whole. Hunts are very intelligent well not counting zero and jabba's father.

Look up a pic of kingpin from marvel. Thing is, Kingpin isnt fat, he's almost pure muscle. Same thing for the Hutts, they have muscles for days, plus they have the energy to use it, since they spend most of their day not using any energy. They can basically throw themselves with their muscular tails at a pretty quick speed. A common tactic for a Hutt to use against a species smaller than they, is to just shove the creature into its mouth. Their digestive system constructs and suffocates anything inside. Not to mention that the Hutts come from a dangerous planet where they are not the apex species, meaning in their early years they were a warrior species that could take on very formidable foes. I think Leia was even quoted as saying that Jabba could clear the length of the palace main room if he wanted to.
