@@slavko321 by early 20230's there will be zero workers in car factories. @@slavko321 Absolute BS. Korea has unionised factories and they not only have free-at-the-point-of-access healthcare AND statutory holidays and sick pay, they also have far more workers' rights than in the USA. Once again, right whingers complaining about workers' rights and fair pay while ignoring the absolutely USELESS management that has created the disastrous state of the US (and, BTW, EU as well) automakers' situation. Japan also has incredible protections for workers. Japan has serious automaker trouble, but that's again, terrible management. No matter which way you slice it, Korea has done a brilliant job, and for much the same reasons as China. And it's got F**K ALL to do with unionised labour.

BYD's power system has evolved to the fifth generation and has been widely used and verified by ordinary households and taxis, proving its reliability. Vehicles equipped with this power system have become the best-selling models in China. The advantage of BYD's PHEV power system is that even if you never charge the car and only use gasoline to drive it, it is still the most fuel-efficient and powerful vehicle in its class.

Yeah, normally I wouldn't touch a plug-in hybrid because combustion is a "sunset technology" however I made an exception in this case because the Shark 6 has a large enough battery that most drivers will likely operate it on electric mode with no emissions. Thanks for the review. We don’t get BYDs in the US. I appreciate the technology and capabilities. I have a few comments. 1. Toyota Prius uses an Atkinson cycle engine. I wonder if the Shark has the same type of engine. 2. Turbo engines on average don’t last as long as naturally aspirated engines. 3. Availability of spare parts , trained mechanics/technicians, technical information is important for long term market presence. I know it takes time to establish a new brand and line of products. Congrats to BYD’s team for coming up with this vehicle!

For mud and sand you need to drop the air pressure in the tyres down to 16, tackle the obstacle/ terrain then when you get back to solid ground use the V to L to use a compressor to pump up the tyres. Brilliant, this far in Australia we've seen the preproduction model driven in a paddock only, mostly by journos whom have not really got the entire concept of the vehicle. You have taken us on road, both with tub empty & weighted down by a portion of it's payload, shown us 80klms in EV mode is possible, illustrated altering SOC to recharge battery to 50% etc. You have demonstrated what Aussie journos this far haven't been able to do prior with preproduction models here. Disappointingly, you hadn't studied the modes available and stuffed up off-road demonstration, but you did reinstall some faith eventually. I am being to become truly anxious to see it, test drive it etc. Will I be swayed to purchasing, just may be. So love the concept.

Excellent review and video. You're one of the only Aus and NZ motoring journalist to know how the PHEV system in the Shark 6 works. I've posted a link to your video on the Reddit BYD section. In that sloppy mud, it looks like you ran out of tyres. You need some good M/T's to get through that. I'm hoping that BYD will bring the Leopard 5 to Australia. That's a mid size PHEV SUV with more off-road chops.

RRP $57,900 in AU following launch. In Au the $57,900 price tag is similar to mid-grade diesel dual-cabs such as the Ford Ranger XLS Bi-Turbo (from $57,630), Isuzu D-Max X-Rider (from $59,500), Mazda BT-50 XTR (from $59,280), Mitsubishi Triton GLS (from $59,090), Nissan Navara ST-X (from $58,945), and Toyota HiLux SR5 manual ($60,670). Going to sell like hotcakes given the torque and V2L for tradies.

2.7T weight is unbelievable. 80km of realistic range is good and enough for 2 days driving for most (though incredibly inefficient). This is by far the best looking BYD.
