+EDGEMOTORS Gonna be doing this job preventatively soon on my CDNC motor code engine. So if I'm not mistaken, after I rotate the crank to line the marks on the pulley and cover, remove the pulley and take the covers off, the main gear on the crank will have: -that flat portion on the back facing up -the yellow mark for the balance shaft chain will be at around 8 o'clock -the yellow mark for the timing chain will be at around 7 o'clock At that point, it's simply as easy as keeping the cams relatively still (using the locking tools and those gear marks facing up), taking off all of the chains, put the balance shaft chain on the main gear with one colored mark lined with the yellow mark, the other two marked links match the marks on the balance shaft gears and those are now lined up correctly. Doesn't matter if the balance shafts move around when the chain is off, so long as they are lined up with the colored chain links and the third colored link is correctly placed where the yellow mark on the gear is. Then I put the timing chain on, colored link matched to the yellow mark on main gear, then just match the colored links on the chain to the marks on the cam sprockets and the balance and timing assemblies are correctly positioned? That's all? It seems very un-Audi to make one gear set up in such a way that it easily makes everything line up off it :D I also have a Borhesung kit and they included the intermediate gear for the balance shafts. Debating about replacing it. The kit also included the main gear, plus I have an additional Audi gear new. Quality doesn't seem too far off from one another.

Amazing Video! I'm working on my 2011 a4 2.0t tfsi. Is it okay to turn the intake balance shaft to line the marks up? It's in TDC and everything else seems to be on mark. The engine did shake a bit, is it possible this could be the cause? We just got the car so I'm doing the timing for peace of mind as there was no history of when it was last done. It does have the updated tensioner installed. It wasn't throwing any codes, no check engine light. Thanks again for everything! Cheers

I have a 2010 Tiguan and was replacing the timing tensioner with the new K type and discovered that the timing marks were 6 links off to the right! The cover had damage where the oil valley was cut into by the chain. Is the timing marks being off an indication of off timing? Plugs were black like it was running rich, tail pipe was also black. I guess I got to it before a major fail! What do you think? BTW this is the best documented video out there! Thank you for putting it out there! It gave me the confidence to attempt the work!

@mckibbenm135 жыл бұрын
It's hard to get them to line up at the same time because of the ratio of the gears. It could take almost 170 full rotations for them to line up. As long as you are at TDC you can still match the colored links of the chain to the notch on the gear regardless if they were aligned when you took it off

@EDGEMOTORS6 жыл бұрын
Well if it’s leaking, sure take it off, just make sure to note aprox cam locations, so when you put them back in you donate have to rotate them too much to put the chain on. And yes you should lube the cam journals with assembly lube when assembling, pay close attention to where the sealant should go and where not....

Please reply :). I have Audi A5 1.8 tfsi CABD engine and JJFF transmission. When I wanted to change my oil I noticed oil leak coming from timimg chain cover at the bottom. Now I don't know if only the seal around the cover failed or did something else fail? Do you maybe know how can I check if it is only the seal or something like that bridge that failed and it is leakin? Now in a little more than a year it dripped like little by little and it dripped only half of oil level that you can check in MMI. Also there isn't much oil stain on the bottom cover. Also can I change the oil and filter and later repair this so that car doesn't have old oil in. I don't do much driving. Only like 5.000km a year.
@EDGEMOTORS6 жыл бұрын
Well if the stain on the belly cover is not big, most likely it’s eating the oil, not leaking,... half the level on mmi is around 1/2 of a quart of oil... so it would be dripping to the floor.....

I notice on the first video that on the lower part of the engine close to the oil pan on the right side of the engine there was some number made with a paint marker when I saw this I had a suspicion that the engine had been replaced I don’t know why I thought about the different version of guides etc.. I did one Q5 not long ago the chains were stretched and the vehicle wasn’t a high miles car I think the millage interval for replacement of the timing set should be at a fix intervals of something like 200 000 km or 125 000 milles people think that timing chain are for the life of the motor I tend to disagree what are your thoughts on this have you ever seen a timing chain set up on a VAG product that was reliable ?

Hello again. Would the faulty code P2295 (fuel pressure regulator 2 control circuit low) cause no start, MK5 TSI engine? I just did the timing job on a 2009 VW GTI; the car doesn't start and that's the only faulty code I'm getting. FYI, I also removed the camshaft timing cover and reinstalled it. While cranking the engine almost starts and there's a little bit of smoke at the exhaust. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Are you sure the crank timing gear is on correctly? Take spark plug number 1 out, put a screw driver in the cylinder, drive the piston up to top dead center, and see if the timing mark at the front cover line up...

I'm 90% sure the timing is correct...but I'll check it again. Would the old fuel cause any issues? The car has been sitting for around six months or so. I did add some fresh gas. Thank you

I did the timing job again. Everything aligns properly at the TDC. Still no start with the same code P2295! Any ideas?

You do have compression right? Check the basics then, spark fuel ... and go from there...

I didn't do the compression test yet. If the timing is off by any chance wouldn't that show any fault codes for cam or crankshaft? The original engine has bent valves, I found a replacement working engine (2008 Passat 2.0t TSI CCTA, body damage); I transferred the throttle body, fuel pump, clutch/flywheel, crankshaft pulley, HPFP, and lower timing cover from the old engine. On a replacement engine I decided to upgrade the timing chain tensioner but I lost the timing by accidently turning the flywheel without having the crankshaft pulley bolt installed. BS mistake, lesson learned. One thing I noticed the old engine has the lower timing cover mark set at 12 o’clock but the Passat engine has 4 o’clock mark? Other than that, the engines are identical, everything fits perfectly.

If I only replace the cam timing chain do I need to realign the marks on the balance shafts or can I just replace cam chain by just timing crank to cams and putting it back together?
@EDGEMOTORS5 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to align the balance shafts as well

много герметика не хорошо - попав в отверстие с резьбой, может выдавить либо болт, либо люмишку с другой стороны, если там стенка тонкая

Well done guys. Did you reuse the low timing chain cover?
@EDGEMOTORS7 жыл бұрын
We always try to take it off as careful as possible... so we could reuse it, some times it doesn’t work out:)
