Thanks Jeff, it took 3 days to do it ... I noticed that the halogen additives like MK and ES give a better result with 5 minutes of no load break-in and starting the test at 50 ° c. TM on the other hand, is also good with less break-in time and lower temperatures. ES seems to give a better result on copper coin.

I noticed that MK tends to make the oil become foggy and to settle on the bottom, instead ES remains more transparent and does not settle. You can see it at the end of the video...

Hello, I am new to your channel and have enjoyed your experiments. One question is out of all of the lubricants and additives such as Molly, W2S and hBN, have you found the combination(s) which gave the best results on your Abrasion tester? Or with the least damage to your test material? Your experiments are very scientific but please consider some narration. I know many people don't speak english or whatever is your native language but I understand Apple now has a translator which will listen to many different languages and translate, in real time, to another language. Maybe, in a year or 3, youtube will allow me to listen to Italian, Russian, Chinese, French or whatever and hear it in one of the languages I speak. Thanks for your dedication to these test !! Halogenated hydrocarbons give an excellent result as you can see in this test, but you have to be careful about the formation of acids that can damage the bushings, not all these types of additives are the same ... Turbo maxx also gave me excellent results, it should contain nano h-BN, Ws2 and Graphene. For now the best result I had with Shell Advance Ultra 15w50 and 6% Engine Shield. I am developing a new procedure with 110°c oil, as soon as it is ready I will publish more videos with even more accurate results. Thanks for the advices!

I would avoid adding an oil that contains ESTER with an additive based on halogenated complexes such as MK, because any acidity produced by the additive would act as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of the ESTER.

@@prospectla6316 Hello, I tried to put Engine Shield in Motul 300v, on Timken it gives excellent results but the manufacturer declares the incompatibility with Esters. Probably in long run, undesirable chemical reactions can occur. It must also be said that the motul 300v is not really "Ester Base" from the analyzes I have seen it contains at most 10/15% of Ester, the rest is GP3 and PAO base. As far as I have found the only manufacturer that uses very high percentages of Ester is Redline.

Wow that copper test is such a good way to determine corrosion ... is this applicable only for copper or would every, softer than copper metal also be harmed by these products that show this corrosion? Thank you!
@edogsx Жыл бұрын
hello, I didn't invent anything, the copper corrosion test in its certified form is called ASTM D-4048. Copper is used because this metal is very sensitive to acids and the change in color is very marked and more easily classified than other metals. The presence of copper in used oil is usually associated with the wear of the bushings.

Could you try Lubegard Bio/Tech Engine Oil Protectant and Schaeffer's Moly EP Oil Treatment?
@Bee-iXs9 ай бұрын
and what are the ingredients in these additives? Sulphur? Then you could try a mixture between engine and transmission oil. You could even try automatic transmission oil. In principle, it is about an oil film that must not break off, even under high pressure. Automatic transmission oil would be predestined for this. Just watch out for hydraulic tappets. But it would be worth a try.

@@edogsx Would really want to know how TM does with this new procedure. I bought turbomax because i saw that it beat bestline, but now i'm thinking if i should have went with something else.
@edogsx4 жыл бұрын
@Alex Z I give you my opinion ... TM is an excellent additive, especially if you use it in your every day car, it also increases the TBN and therefore you can do normal or even prolonged drainage intervals. Halogen additives, on the other hand, are very effective in increasing performance, but often some of them can reduce the life of the engine oil, therefore it becomes necessary to change the oil more often. The copper test is useful to understand if the oil or the additive produces acidity in situations of strong heat for a long period of time. However I will try to satisfy you by performing the same procedure with TM.

Do you know the ASTM D130 test? You can find videos on KZbin ... It is a corrosion test for lubricants and fuels, it helps to understand if acidity is formed that can attack yellow metals "such as the engine bushings" by subjecting the product to temperature and pressure for long periods of time. Obviously mine It's an amateur test...
@HFbastler1 Жыл бұрын
@@edogsx I think to improve you should do the test in a glass container, because the electrical contact of Cu to Al can cause ions to flow and cause an increased corrosion as it would normally be measured according to the ASTDM norm, and also the coin directly on the heated surface kind of "traps" pyrolysis products, so you would have to hang the copper in a test tube. But still you gave us a useful result with your version of the test.
