Next to Lobster, Salmon are my favourite Ocean creature. Fished Atlantic Salmon (Scotland) seasonal, for many, many years before Farm Salmon and reduced numbers moved us along. Hugely enjoyable and pretty labour intensive like most if not all fishing.Those seals/Lions. so lovable, eh. Watched some of your excellent Halibut Fishery clips, some years ago worked in Canada, where I read/heard that they used 4-10 shotguns to kill/stun the huge Halibut they were trying to get into their punts on Grand Banks et al.

Hey guys is there a limit as to how many fish you can take . Most off the rivers in Scotland have a return policy on them ,if the fish has swallowed the hook then its encouraged to take the fish for he pot ,great vid ,a different aspect 😎
@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
The streams are managed carefully by Fish and Game, and subsistence, sport and commercial opportunities are adjusted as necessary to insure escapement goals are met. If a river system is struggling to meet the minimum escapement the areas around it are closed.
@theNaniLynch4 жыл бұрын
Do you have a daily limit? Oh, and thank you so much for taking us out with you.

@@EISAlaska So your limit isn't based on who's fishing at the moment, but how many people are in your household? And is that a daily limit or for the season? Great channel by the way, loving your vids.

Guys, nice job on the video and catching. I was wondering does anyone ever sport fish troll for Reds? I see guys getting Silvers, Kings, and even Pinks. Don't see much on the Reds and Chums being caught by the trolling method. Doesn't matter to me how a guy catches a fish I am just curious.
@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark. I honestly don't know. I have heard of people trolling for reds, but not sure if anyone does it here. We are pretty out of touch with the sport fish world. One day when we have more time we will get back into it.
@gregkerr7254 жыл бұрын
Back in 77 we ran a gillnet out near where you are before the regular seining season began. We had subsistence licenses and just wanted some fish to eat. We caught 10 or 12 Reds. The mind plays tricks, but in my minds eye the fish we caught seemed bigger...like 10-12 lbs and all almost exactly the same size....those are Reds aren't they?
@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Nice. The ones we caught this day were kind of small, we even had a few that slipped through the net. The previous day's were nicer and a few more males always makes a big difference.

What's the etiquette for how many nets/ how close? Does it turn into battle fishing? I've walked off the river/ocean before because of knuckleheads rubbing elbows with me to "get their trophy"
@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Hi stickhillfarm. It depends on your neighbors. Some guys will say drop your net right off their end, others like a little space. That spot only holds about four nets, but 50 foot space is plenty if they are all on the boundary line. If you set perpendicular to the beach then a few hundred feet is probably good. Most guys are pretty laid back, and easy to get along with. Nothing like river fishing.
