@kyle10784 ай бұрын
I think he dismissed the "quitting everything" theory too readily. I don't think Miquella was cursed with Nascency in just physical form, but in all things. Like his body, all of his plans would ultimately fail to come to full fruition. My evidence is that the tarnished was actually able to perfect some of those plans, like working with Millicent to make a Golden Needle that could purge the frenzied flame. So Miquellas plans were good and didn't need a God to complete them, they just needed someone who was outside his plans and thus unaffected by the curse. Since Miquella couldn't rely on that, his solution was to ascend to godhood, thus becoming "Not-Miquella" and shedding the curse that way.

Hey Phil! Loved the breakdown of Trina and Miquella's relationship, BUT I dont believe St. Trina is supposed to be an adult. Rather, she represents his genuine love, as that is what the Cross of Miquella within the fissure seems to imply. Also, the St. Trina's Torch states: "The carvings depict St. Trina, but in adult form, somewhat unnervingly." The torch specifically notes that seeing St. Trina, depicted as an adult in the torch, is unnerving, and I think this is because they, too, are a child. The main theory I've seen on Miquella is that he's not necessarily giving up, but hes cursed to never finish anything. His curse is not youth, its nascency, as in he's fully of potential, but that's all he ever will be, and thus, none of his deeds can ever truly come to fruition. Regardless, I really love your channel and your videos man, hope you're doing well. Also, I just released an Elden Ring Lore Theory on my channel the other day and I now am able to relate to your segments about commenters on your videos haha.

Very important lore things! Ansbach blames Mohg's death at your hands on both his seeking Lordship, _AND_ on the enchantment making him act weirdly. Those things are separate, and it's not at all implied that Miquella is the reason he did so- the Purebloods were around well before Miquella entered the picture, as were presumably the Bloody Fingers (the only debatable odd ones out are Varre, and the White Masks who wield Misericordes- an item whose description reads "Beware the killers clothed as men of compassion.") In Elden Ring, "Lordship" is a specific state where you're the intermediary that wields the power of a God, who themself is the vessel for the power of an Outer God. Mohg was _always_ going to kidnap Miquella, since he's by far the best known Empyrean that isn't Malenia (a terrifying warrior that matched Radahn, conqueror of massive arrays of celestial bodies) or Ranni (who as far as the rest of the world knew at that point had died in the Night of Black Knives.) Also, Miquella is always, always portrayed as needing near proximity to his target in order to charm them- the entire premise of the crew in Shadow of the Erdtree is that all of them are described as having had some encounter with Miquella in person, and some reason they look up to or feel indebted to him. If he could charm you otherwise, he wouldn't even need to have Radahn land his grab attack in the boss fight, he'd just do it and be over with it. People have this weird obsession with making Miquella this conniving mastermind that planned everything out from the beginning and actively intended for Malenia to be abandoned without him, for it to come to blows with Radahn, that was always plotting to manipulate Mohg into letting him into the Land of Shadow from the beginning, and like... no? None of this lines up with not only the pre-existing lore in the base game, but with what un-enchanted Ansbach- who has the most reason out of anyone to hate him- directly tells us went down between Miquella and Mohg (i.e. that Mohg sought lordship, which entails taking a hold of a God and making them a vessel for specifically the Formless Mother's power, and then separately from that was enchanted.)

Hard agree about games being too large a lot of the time. There are certainly some open world games that I love (Breath, Tears and Elden Ring are all pretty slick) but the vast majority are just padding for the hell of it. I've played and enjoyed a lot of games over the last three decades in every genre out there but I can say with absolute certainty that the majority of the ones I truly love are 5-15 hours long not 150+.
@runamerone54924 ай бұрын
Yeah. There have been so many games over the past decade or so that had me thinking 'I love this but man, it's too long/big'. Ghost of Tsushima was a great example of that. I loved that story, I loved the world, I loved the combat and the characters but it really did feel like the entire world map could have been 1/3 the size it was and the story could have been 1/3 as long and it would have been a far more tight and engaging experience. Even God of War 2018/Ragnarok had this issue. Absolutely loved those games but I was ready to move on half way through. Elden Ring has shot up to be one of my all time faves and I do agree that the maps could have afforded to be significantly smaller. Once you know the critical route and aren't doing all bosses (like I do every time) You can beat them in a few hours...but imagine how much better so much of the game would be if you didn't have to ride Torrent across Liurnia every time.
@swampert5644 ай бұрын
I personally found God of War 2018 to be a really good ratio and Ragnarok was close but a little too much though that's helped significantly by their plots being legitimately compelling in a way that most games fail at. Ghost of Tsushima was a really major example though, I normally absolutely love samurai stuff but I'm honestly not sure that I ever finished it. The Horizon games are probably what stand out to me most as an example, they've got a cool world and a good story but it would be a better story if it was more of an intentional route I think. Elden Ring is pretty dope but their is a good amount of redundant stuff though to be fair much of it is optional but on the other hand a bunch of it is also just rehashed stuff from earlier Fromsoft games too. Tears (and a lesser extent Breath) kinda shatter whatever point I'm getting at though, they are the extremely rare title where I'm fully willing to just sink time into until I've seen every inch of it. That being said Lttp, Awakening, Ocarina and Majora's are four games that are in the highest tier for me and I would take their structure over Tears or Breath every single time.

I read the journeys of Marika and Miquella as inverse Parallels, Marika seemed to try to get better as a person as time went on but Miquella got worse. All of Marina’s genocides were at the start of her godhood and Shadow Realm seems to be revenge, it might be Omens remind her of Hornsents hence her hatred. She may have eventually realized how monstrous she was and tried to change but the 2 Fingers forced her to kill the Fire Giants to protect the Erdtree, and Godfrey may have spared the last at Marina’s request, hence him losing grace and trying to make Marika lose her support structure. Then the Greater Will forced Marika and Radagon together to try to bring Marika to heel, but that didn’t work. She helped Ranni steal the Rune of Death so Marika could shatter the Elden Ring and had Melina find a Tranish who could finally end the Greater Will to try to undo the harm she did. Miquella saw his mother as the problem not the system she was trapped in so thought that since he had a better starting position, he could fix it from within.

I don’t know what your typical viewer would think but just for like QoL if you’re on pc maybe there’s a mod that’ll let you cheat yourself the fragments (I’m not on pc so I have no clue what the limitations of mods are). You can get to like lvl 14 frag and lvl 7 revered without killing any bosses anyway so like it mostly just cuts down on boring/annoying running around time. Could also slowly give yourself more as you go through new areas based off of how many are in that area (you would have to decide what constitutes an area) so that you get a nice progression through the dlc without becoming too powerful as you go. Seeing as there’s 10 major bosses and you’ll want all 50 frags for radahn you could start the dlc by giving yourself 5 and give yourself 5 more for every major boss you defeat (which gives you an excuse to go fight bayle since you seem to enjoy him). For revered essence you could either give yourself 7 and 2 more for the 9 major bosses other than radahn, or you could give different amounts for different bosses, so something like: Starting amount 3 Dancing Lion +2 Rellana +2 Scadutree +2 Putrescent +2 Gaius +2 Romina +2 Messmer +3 Midra +3 Metyr +3 Bayle +3 Hope you find a way to make including the dlc easier since even if you ever fully memorize where all the frags and essence are I imagine it won’t be fun having to run around for an hour or however long to get them.

Know what could be a fun cosplay build? The catacomb golems. Use the Serpent Golem Greatsword thingy, a goofy golem helmet, and the Big Mouth Golem Spirit Ash. Could be CON-TINT

I actually agree on Torrent in the Elden Beast fight. I never really did mind the whole chasing him around thing though. It always felt like it was support be more like a dance than a chase, so it never bothered me. When I finished the DLC and started over in NG+, I finally fought him on Torrent for the first time and man, it trivialized the fight completely. Like, he had NOTHING on me. I didn't even run when Elden Stars came out, just kept snacking him until I got hit 3 or 4x and then finally summoned Torrent and bounced til that shit was done. It was the least stressful Elden Stars experience I've had since the time I got lucky and stance broke him to interrupt it.

I think doing some runs at the start of the DLC with most of the scadu collected would be fine and it would help keep the videos rolling. Kind of like your NG+ runs, just use an existing save file (or even a generated one most people won't care) and then do the run from there. Maybe do some of the old favorites from the tier list DLC only too

Hey Phil! Just think about how much of your suffering has created so much joy... Silver Lining Brother. Nice job on the World Record! Never miss a video. Outstanding as usual! Appreciate the work you do.

Your description and analysis of the DLC's story and themes is, point for point, exactly my own thoughts when going through it myself. I avoided any and all spoilers until I finished my first play through of it, and came to damn near the same conclusion as you when I finished. And honestly, you're completely right about how people view these kinds of stories at surface level, missing the symbolism, themes, and messaging it gives us. That point you brought up specifically about Miquella casting aside St. Trina especially hit hard when I saw that myself. How to work within a society that oppresses minorities, trans people in this scenario, where you're forced to cast aside the part of yourself that makes you happy, your own love for yourself, because you don't fit into said society. That resonated so well with me, and it makes me so happy to see a creator I love see that as well and explain in such a way. Genuinely, that whole analysis of yours made this one of my favorite videos of yours. Love it.

Very much appreciated the story breakdown, but I wish everyone would call them Ska-DOOOOOOO tree fragments like I do. Makes finding them a lot more fun when you yell that every single time.

Spacey makes it weird, but I still super love Baby Driver. Actually one of my favorite movies to see in theater. Something about Bloodhound Gang. I hope y'all are doing alright. It's been a weird week.

For the Leda fight you still ended up with hornsent so just do the part of Leda's quest where you kill him. Also, don't summon for Radahn, it boosts his health massively for relatively little reward, sometimes it's worth but not here chief.

The Scadu-Break section system was quite some fun. It was like the DLC of For-Biden lands :3 We genuinely understand if it doesn't end up being something mentions every video, especially since it seems quite like a risky investment on your side potentially, but atleast this first time was great!!! Hope you a great day!!!

This video was perfect! Hopefully a more long term solution becomes clear for the future. I don’t know how NG+1 scaling works, but could you do all runebearers and then skip to the DLC or something? All the best!
@lupoc.i.46864 ай бұрын
Or, just do the cool bosses (so skip Rykard) or have the patreon vote for which bosses you’ll fight in a specific run to minimize the number of bosses you have to do like some kind of bounty board? You didn’t ask for commenter help but I wanted to give unsolicited advice. Have a good one

26:11 i heard somewhere that Miquella wasn't cursed with eternal youth but that his curse was his nascence nothing can be complete cause it's trapped bottlenecked obstructed and interrupted. his fate is even trapped in a simular matter with his amber starlight left in a valley leaving it captive
