the story in souls games are always very vague and open ended. Information is only usually given from character dialogue and item descriptions but even then it can be hard to peace together what's going on. Most of the time it is up to the player to figure out what is happening and why. But that's one of the reasons souls games are so intriguing.

@@hollowboyxt1546 its definitely not easy, enemies easily killed me, I could kill them just as easily but our stats were boosted in the test. The game is definitely going to be fromsofts hardest game yet

@@hollowboyxt1546 definitely not easy but the increased amount of checkpoints definitely make things a bit more friendly as in past games you would have to take a long journey to return to the place you died here there's much more checkpoints then usual which makes dying feel not as painful atleast for what was in the network test

My first "souls" game was Bloodborne. I beat it. Spent tens of hours fighting countless monsters, exploring cathedrals, parallel universes, and places that defy description. Killed everything, up to and including a big scary tentacle thingy that flew down from a giant bloodstained moon. And the entire time, I had absolutely no clue what the story was or why I was doing anything that I was doing. I even thought that there WAS no story to speak of, that it was purely a gameplay experience with a cool aesthetic. Wasn't until I started watching lore videos on Bloodborne that I realized, what the hell, there was an entire narrative to the game that even made sense. I just wasn't paying enough attention. Story was camouflaged underneath all the blood, eyeballs, and physical metaphors.

Loved reading this. Feels like a metaphor for how to live life almost. It can all seem like a grind and just live paycheck to paycheck and forget about what’s really important and the story you want your life to be…..or maybe that’s too philosophical 😂🤗😇

in Souls games there isn't much of a story per-se but more of Lore and history

Well, that's kinda the deal with Souls games, isn't it? I mean you have a metric fuckton of background lore, which you need to discover by acting like Serlock on brick of cocaine, and you're trying to piece a very convoluted storyline from it. There are even 2hr+ videos on youtube explaining the story of Bloodborne, Dark Souls etc., that include comic books.

@@davidsulc90 to get a grasp of the story, you really just need to play it and not rush everything. Then, on your second playthrough, you get an even deeper understanding. At which point you can easily connect everything. Watching some lore videos is always fun too, if u don't have time to play that much lol I love it tho

@@purpledigimon I get your point, but in Soulsborne games a lot of background comes from reading item/equipment/weapon description. And should you miss one item, (or all the umbillical cords on Bloodborne) you'll get completely different end of story

Having played the Network Test, I can say that Elden Ring will be the most accessible Fromsoftwere game as well as Miyazaki's magnum opus. This would be a good place for a lot of newcomers to get into Miyazaki's games. I definitely would recommend to try it out when it comes out.

don't worry about to not know what's going on, the souls series is very cryptic and players have to figure everything out by themselves via. item descriptions or environmental lore/npcs, it's great and very different than what we are used to. i hope you will check out the other games for sure, they are tough but very fun to play, nice reaction as always!!

In interviews about Elden Ring, the developers have mentioned that the story will be displayed in a somewhat more straight-forward manner than usual. It will still be largely item descriptions and environmental context, but a typical player experiencing main-path cutscenes and dialogue will have a decent idea of the major plot points (this is how they handled their last game Sekiro too)

I want to say the only thing this footage hadn't quite nailed is just how diverse the surrounding environments can be, but it did well to capture the artistic brilliance of it. One technical feature they also don't really demonstrate, but veteran players know well of from the developers is interconnectivity of the map designs. They try to not retire off old areas too soon and make it gratifying and purposeful to return in clever ways that feels refined and by a time you feel like a newer person upon the visitation that you'd actually get more out of it. It's the kind of aspect that's technically small, but it's got it's own sense of a difference it makes to experience that speaks for an amount of care that truly went into it that so many other games wouldn't have considered doing because they look at the returning to the start as unnecessary, or not getting out the rest of their list of ideas they'd like to send the player through. Someone made a good point about this game particularly in exploration as an open world game. It presents itself a bit confidently, where there's so much to actually find and explore, and lets players off the ever present direct leash and tons of on your screen markers, that you would still get curious enough to go out of your way to find a lot of the things on your own out of interest until you're willing to tackle back the main questline that's only lightly hinted at for you to go towards to check out without the stresses of a time limit sort of push. Then because there's so many interesting little landmarks and things worth checking out and conquering, you can get yourself up to level in less of a grindy fashion by simply getting your adventure on. Though options technically exist for fast rune farming, or speed running tactics, should someone really want it.

These games are hard, but it heavily depends on how you play. So if you pick up a heavy weapon like a great sword, build hp,stamina and strength you're set. The game becomes easier that way, especially since heavy armour gameplay is returning on Elden ring

Thanks for the tip! 😀 usually in role playing games I prioritize healing, health, damage reduction etc. That way I just basically out last creatures I fight. Fights take longer but it also gives me more time to figure out what’s working and what’s not during fight 🤗

Ken and BETHANY, despite the game having some initial issues that were fixed, 3 developers in a private conversation criticized the game. One of these 3 works at UBISOFT which always recycles its games, the other worked on the game horizon forbidden west and the woman in a game developer. ELDEN RING is being such a hit that it has been accessed by over 1 million people so far and both critics and gamers are giving it high marks.

Far CRY 6 is very nice, etc. BUT it didn't have many innovations and HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST was released a week before ELDEN RING. ELDEN RING as well as dark souls are very difficult games for beginners and the game creator himself said this in a video, but added that the pleasure of beating a boss and receiving the reward is even greater.

The girl you saw in the video at minute 1130 is also a boss fight and from what I've seen it's not easy. As for crafting items, I recently discovered that you can modify one of the shields and increase the damage dealt by the player. Did you notice that the screen is clean and without any indication or anything that you have in other games? Well that's what FROMSOFTWARE did for players and that was one of the reasons players love the game so much.

This game is by far one of my favorite FromSoftware games, right next to Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. I originally played Dark Souls 1 and my friend ended up buying me the game as a birthday gift and I can safely say that if he didn’t buy it for me, I would’ve happily paid the 60 dollars for it myself. The game is an absolute masterpiece and I’m still finding new things on my 5th play-through!!

Much like everyone else I’ve been waiting for Elden Ring for years now, but since the gameplay trailer came out I genuinely can’t wait much longer for it 😅 and since it’s a FromSoft game, Bethany may or may not enjoy how the story is, since it’s never right there, the only way you typically learn about it is with the very few lines of dialogue that NPC’s have and mainly from item descriptions (or just let Vaatividya do all the work and watch his vids 😅)

The game is an open world ARPG, Best way to explain it would be Breath of the Wild meets Dark Souls. The story isn't told in a linear way usually in souls games. You get some lore through conversations with the npc's. Usually you get most of the lore of the world through items. All/most items have lore descriptions.(The glowy things you noticed that he didn't pick up was items, drops from chests and enemies.)

Can't wait for this, love all From Software Souls games, and this looks awesome as always, especially with George R. R. Martin's involvement. Cheers! Also, since I can't remember off hand if I've suggested it before, nor do I know if anyone else has, I want to take a moment to talk about another From Software franchise that doesn't get talked about much anymore. Before the Souls games, FromSoft's claim to fame was a series called Armored Core, which was about building, tweaking, and fighting wars with giant humanoid shaped robots called, well, Armored Cores, or ACs. Think something kind of along the lines of the movie Pacific Rim, and you're in the right general ballpark as to what Armored Core is like. May be something to add to your ever growing list!😁 (Just how long is that freaking list, anyways?🤔)

I couldn't play the Network Test sadly but I am just overly hyped and glad that they even had one. It's just logical to test everything 3 months before release, unlike other developers.. & I am also hyped to find every connection/Easter egg to my all time favorite Berserk Manga, which is a masterpiece btw. So to give you the "right" mindset for Soul games it focuses on human tenacity. Meaning you are human, you aren't close to perfect, and you will fail. You don't know everything about the world and you figure it out yourself. The map they showed as well as summons is new. You had to figure even the area yourself for previous Soul-like games. Invasions and other people going into your world to kill and rob you is apart of this charm. It sounds like on paper a bad idea to not tell you ANYTHING, sounds bad that when you die you lose something, and you can get invaded at any point for no reason, even at your lowest. But not stated is when you triumph. You know you can die in a single hit, and you have nothing left and someone invades you, and you win. That's they joy, it's fighting against a world ending monster while carrying a broken sword and being a insignificant human. It's trying 100 times and finally flawlessly killing a dragon that gave you trouble. Other games finally caught on games don't like when games are too easy, and going the reverse direction was a good idea. Where not everyone will beat the game, and that's fine. Not everyone will even explore the secrets, even among the people who beat the game. And even the people who discovered many secrets they may be far from their max potential with hidden content and tougher fights than the main story fights.

We can get behind all of it except the invading aspect of it all. Just not into having someone drop in on our game. If we wanted that. We would play a multiplayer game. When we play a story based game like this we want to do it on our own. But that’s just us. 🤗

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I believe the newer games have the option to disable invasions. But I feel it's due to people not giving it enough time to see that it's a mixed bag. Getting nothing but the positives makes the game a little too easy. Positives is like a reverse invasion, where someone goes to your world to help you, or they write tips on the ground, or you see bloodstains of their last moments so you can see how they died (similar to a premonition of the future), ect. After long playtime I think it's important that it's both positive and negative but sure I think the option will be available day one to disable the negatives.

I don't think that's a good idea, they are rookie gamers and still have a lot to learn, souls like games are very difficult and elden ring is looking to have a lot of mechanics.

This won't make sense for a second but I promise it's going somewhere. So in call of duty you level your gun and it unlocks more challenges to earn camos. You earn every camo for a gun you get it gold. If you get gold for every gun in a class ie all shotguns gold, you'll unlock shotgun diamond. I love me some shotguns. Well anyway the new zombies is insultingly bad and boring so I'm glad you put up a longer video that I can watch while grinding shotgun zombies diamond or else I'd be dying of boredom lol
