Ana's father, Patrick Kriegel, passed away- just a few weeks ago, he passed peacefully at home, most people believe it was from a broken heart from losing his daughter. That is terribly sad.

I was looking at the evidence in Ana murder case today ,and was very surprised to learn that the jury were not allowed to hear what was on A phone . There were over 8000 images of porn on his phone. He had porn images of children,images of porn with animals and pictures of young girls being raped and tortured . Imo this evil person should never be set free

I think it would be hard for me to know what I would do. I saw several docs about a woman whose son killed her own daughter, and the emotional journey she has gone through. At first, she didn’t believe it. Later, she was disgusted and cut him out of her life, for a time. Now, she has forgiven him…last I heard. I can’t imagine what I would actually do, despite wanting to believe I wouldn’t be supportive. If a child is so damaged s/he would do something horrific, that’s a tragedy, in itself. It’s not like my disapproval would likely have any effect on him or her. I do have a daughter and a son, but I just can’t imagine…

Well, Boy B also regretted it genuinely. Sounds like a case of peer pressure more than anything. His father was just doing what any father would if they genuinely understood that their son regretted it and understood what he did wrong. His son is also 12-13. It's natural for him to be protective. This whole case mostly shows the consequences of peer pressure. I never struggled with peer pressure but it can cause people to do bad things to keep friendships, apparently

I'm going to somewhat disagree with that, depending on how old the child(ren) is(are,) identities should be hidden as some may not know the extent of what they did. PLUS they may not even have a stable connection to the internet or even a person to tell them what is right and wrong, and how things work. i think that should be held until 10-11.

In principle I agree with what you're saying, it's not fair for victim. But if their identities were public then some members of the public would surely seek to commit further violent crimes against the perpetrators in retaliation. I feel so sick when I hear about the parents coddling them after they've brutally killed a young girl, and actually DEFENDING them! Me and my siblings sat with our father and had a discussion about different murders etc. and that parents many times keep telling people - even though there are CLEAR evidence that they brutally murdered someone in cold blood - that their child is innocent etc. My father agreed that it was sick, and told us: "If any of you would murder someone in cold blood like those crimes... I'd disown you." Me and my siblings think this is totally valid, and wouldn't expect anything else if that was the case. Note is that our father is an incredebly loving and caring father, who wants nothing but the good in life for us. He does anthinging he can to help us. I agree with this and would do the same thing if I had a child that did this. It's not sane to defend those children, it's sick and shows on the parents morals as well tbh.

I have been thinking about doing the same sort of things as your dad did. My boys are only 4, so not yet. But eventually I want to show them cases so that they know why I don't trust the internet with them (not them with the internet, I'll start out trusting them unless they break that trust) and things they can do to stay safe from dangerous people (not stranger danger, I learned a cool new term for young kids called tricky people since most dangerous people are not strangers.) I hadn't thought about talking about what would happen if they murder or assault someone else (because it just doesn't occur to you that your child could ever do that), so I will be adding that to the list of things to talk about. This case in particular had me thinking a lot about if Boy B really didn't know that Boy A was going to murder Ana and what he should have done, so I would probably walk through what they should do if they are in a similar situation where a friend does something unexpected. I do think running was a good decision because Boy A sounds terrifying, but then telling his parents, calling the police, not lying to the police, etc would have been much better ways to handle the situation. (Absolutely would not have called him innocent like his father did because those decisions were very much wrong and had the police been notified when he got home maybe Ana could have survived. The child definitely deserved some consequences, we just don't know how much he knew before hand, so maybe he didn't deserve murder. I do agree that if he knew before hand than murder is the correct sentence.) That it's okay and good to feel guilty in that sort of situation, but don't let it stop you from doing the right thing once you know what's going on. Also, it's not snitching when it's for the wellbeing of someone (and please snitch even when it's not to help someone, children should always snitch). A friend getting in trouble for murder is GOOD, do not protect a friend no matter how much you care about them, if they have done something like that then you don't know them and need to protect yourself from them as well. There are SO many talking points in this case.

@@lunanight2151 as a very mama bear type mom I second what you said. I absolutely plan on checking my reaction to all the mistakes my child makes. But if they do something like the ones you listed there is no telling how I will react, 1st of all because I don't know how I will feel because I can't even imagine my actual children doing anything like that. My biggest fears come from them acting rashly and innocently injuring someone, because they are impulsive and energetic 4 year olds. But I know that I feel very disgusted with murder and that, as with everything else, they have to take responsibility for their actions. If anything I would be at the interrogations and court just to parent them and be like "you had better tell the truth!" I would also be annoyed that Boy B didn't want to tell the truth in front of me. "Child. If you respect me you will tell me the truth. Do not try to save face because that just makes you look worse in my eyes." Oh! Or how Boy A straight up denied the hard evidence! 😡 I don't know what the parents were supposed to do during the interview or what they did, but if they were meant to sit quietly, there is no way I could have sat quietly through that! It makes me so mad!

Let me tell you something - when i was 14yo girl growing up in sort of bad area i knew 12-13yo boys being violent, including sexual violence, they were participating in robberies and fights and stuff like that. And trust me, they were VERY MUCH AWARE of what they were doing and they were laughing at the justice system knowing there won't be much consequences because they were technically kids. So no one will tell me those two didn't know what they were doing. I would understand if they were like 10 that they identity should be protected but a 13yo boy can tell the difference between right and wrong and for sure knows when he crosses the boundaries. They both should get a lifetime in prison without a possibility of parole.

Knowing right and wrong is not the same as comprehending consequences of your actions. That takes maturity and growth/knowledge of how your actions will impact on your future and what it means when your freedom is taken away. What it means to have responsibilities. At that age kids don’t have such burdens to think about. It’s what their parents do for them. So that is why underage kids are given so much concessions. Not that I agree. I’d much prefer tougher sentencing that reflects the heinous of the crime regardless of age. But I also understand that children lack the ability to process consequences the same way adults are able too.

Killers too often target those they think nobody will care about should they go missing. Those who are stigmatized. Recently a man has been ar rrested under suspicion of being a serial killer of homeless people in the US. Obviously Jack the ripper and thousands of killers targeting sex workers. Heck, the other day I listened to a podcast where somebody killed a young woman who had "loose morals" in the 50s-60s and he got away with it because the whole town including the jury were apparently biased against her for that reason. It would not surprise me at all if, in their childlike minds, these boys thought nobody would care about the unpopular girl.

I 100% agree with you. But even though its unlikely there is a possibility that boy B didn't know that he was leading Ana to her death. one can say that the boy A said that he was going to kill somebody but this wouldn't be taken seriously especially among kids which often make up things and say things just to say them. and while if boy B knew what was going to happen to Ana makes him just as, well almost just as guilty as boy A. Infect it sometimes someone like that is more poisonous than someone who lets say would actually pull a trigger. There is a question of how much did he know about the evens that were to happen.

We all know that building, we all hung out as teens in that park and still visit the park as adults. It was so horrific what those boys did. The town holds so much love for Anna and her memory. The paragraph Ana had written made me cry. Such a beautiful angel, who wasn't given the same chance in life as others were. She had the absolute best parents, but even they couldn't protect her from the horrible outside world. I feel so bad that she couldn't ever feel a true friendship or live without mental issues. I just hope wherever she is, she is loved and cared for, and she knows how beautiful being she was inside and out. It likely isn’t the same in Ireland, but in the England we had a law put through dubbed ‘Clare’s Law’- a piece of law that allows a partner to make inquiries to the police about their significant other as to whether they have a history of violent crime/abuse. Im not sure how it works in cases of anonymity (or whether there are loopholes), but it’s an important piece of law that protects people and honestly should be instated everywhere. Even if the police wouldn’t reveal the nature of the crime to these boys (possible) future partners, a law similar to Clare’s Law would make sure they can’t hurt anybody again.

It's a bit rare for most adoptive parents to make sure their foreign-adopted child is close to their culture and keep their original name. A lot don't even tell them they're adopted. Ana's parents truly wanted to give her a home full of live and happiness, I hope they can heal and find peace.

It’s ‘policy’ now to have the children know they are adopted so that it doesn’t cause issues later on. Too many adopted children were finding out they were adopted when sorting through draws for something else or when parents had died.

Well tbh, I don’t really think that being told you’re adopted is necessarily a good thing, it leaves more questions than answers and you’ll live your live constantly questioning things, imagine living like that? Also when a child is adopted technically the adoptive parents are their mum and dad, they’re the ones that raise them, they take on so much responsibility, physically and financially so they have every right to keep that from the child, and quite often they may feel that they are protecting the child from living a life full of questions! The biological parents are technically just surrogates and give up all their rights the minute they sign their child away, and I commend people that adopt children they’re amazing people and they deserve every right to keep the fact they’re adopted from the child so that they’re child doesn’t ever feel that they’re not part of the family and effectively lonely because of it! Look what telling this girl that she was adopted did to her! She was bullied because of it and kids are cruel… I think keeping something like that from the child is sometimes a good thing it keeps them from suffering! Then again maybe in some instances it necessary but I understand why people don’t do it… This story is horrendous poor poor girl! They deserve to be named and shamed regardless of the age, people should know what they did!!!

it’s not too rare, I’m adopted. I was adopted from Guatemala at 9 months old. I was told I was adopted since I could understand, my parents wanted me to know. I was born and names Evelin but my parents called me Eva. I get what her parents were trying to do, it’s not that rare. You should look into the unsolved disappearance of Mary Boyle a 6 year old who went missing over 40 years ago. She's Ireland's longest missing person and there's a suspicion that the police covered up who kidnapped her. It really depends on whether boy b fully knew about the events taking place, he really shouldn't have gotten a FULL sentence with the lack of evidence. I couldn't imagine if my own child got such a big punishment as someone who's proven to do something disgusting as this case, against my child who probably could've gotten more freedom. I would think most parents would feel the same way as boy B father felt. All we know is what we heard here. Boy B could be a boy who’s only friend was boy A because he had issues like the young girl. Boy A could’ve been extremely abusive and controlling of boy B. Obviously boy B only part was getting the girl. They never said what boy A told boy B he was going to do that day. I know he had made comment way before but boy B easily could’ve thought the boy was joking and maybe he thought boy A was going to just try get the girl to sleep with him. Most parents are blinded by their kids anyway but boy B really could have been a good kid that got caught up with a sick kid. With what I heard here I would have charged boy B with manslaughter unless there is info she left out. I can also understand the girls parents wanting both boys charged with murder because their child suffered a terrible death. They want justice for their baby but I think boy B dad also wanted what he thought was right for his son. He might had thought the manslaughter was more fitting than murder.

i don’t usually get emotional over true crime cases, but this one broke me. i see a lot of my younger self in ana, what she went through during her transition to secondary school and the decline of mental health that led up to this case is something i’ve went through verbatim. being the ‘weird’ girl, having bad social skills, not having any friends, turning to self harm, being sexually assaulted at school- and previous to all this imagining with hope for what my future would be like, only to be left with no hope. i could never see myself as deserving of having any friends and hated myself for being the way i was- when i can now see i was a really interesting person with so much to contribute and how great a friend i would’ve been to anyone who would’ve just given me a chance. i know her pain so well, and i can’t even begin to imagine what she must’ve been thinking during her last moments. i’m irish too and was the same age as ana when this all happened. i actually remember hearing about this case on the car radio on the way home from a mental health appointment. i just cant help but think that given both of our similar situations at that time, it could’ve so easily been me meeting a fate like hers. that being said, i’m in no way comparing my teenage trauma to what happened to her. what happened to ana was unspeakable and absolutely devastating. i just relate to ana so much and my heart breaks for her. she didn’t deserve this whatsoever, and it’s heartbreaking she didn’t get to see what life is like coming out the other side of such pain and mental suffering. your problems may become more complicated and different ones are gonna keep popping up, but what you’re currently dealing with does have an end- it gets easier and it gets better. ana should’ve been able to get to see the light at the end of the tunnel. she should have been able to feel butterflies during her first kiss. she should have been able to stress over her leaving cert trying to get the points she needs for paris university. she should’ve been able to work on her social skills and make new friends. she should have been able to fall in love for the first time. she should have been able to get pissed during freshers week. she should have been able to cry over her first breakup. she should have been able to get her first job and feel the buzz of getting your first paycheck. she should have been able to go on a sixth year holiday with her friends. she should have been able to feel the independence of moving into her college accommodation and waving goodbye to her parents, ready to take on whatever comes next for her in life. she should’ve experienced it all. ana deserved to experience life with both its ups and downs- and it’s truly devastating that it was all taken from her. i didn’t know ana or her family, but i would have loved to. she was an amazing girl, and her passing is a massive loss to this world. i truly hope she rests in peace. even as a stranger, i mourn for ana kriegel.

I work in a middle school and to think somewhere a young girl was so kind hearted to write her feelings down and express them so well at her age. Such genuine writing cuz from wat everyone says about her thats wat she really felt in her life. She just urged for kindness. Wen I was younger I used to stand in the bathroom and compliment the girls who looked pretty that day. I nvr lied I just made sure to tell them. And no one ever said it back I stopped in high school but I I that for years until my freshman year someone asked me y I was always in the bathroom and I said it was the quietest place and thy told me to get out the bathroom cuz it was weird. So I did and I just stopped. And no one ever said it to me until like years later someone said I looked nice and it sunk in super deep. My parents don't even compliment me in that way. Gosh, I feel so bad for the dad, I bet he's swimming in guilt... I know so many people would want to point the blame at the dad, but how was he meant to know? Just like was Ana meant to know of their evil intentions? These weren't grown, dodgy looking men or even the common bullies at school that made her life hell but two young boys, she knew of and for the dad, two young children that look like her... It's like the case of Shanda Sharer, no one had any suspicions and why would you? Children are meant to be harmless in societies, but at the end of the day they are human and every human has it in them to be evil, to hate, have a mental illness and many other reasons people kill or harm others. In my opinion, I think the lack of knowledge when it comes to serious consequences can make a child dangerous to the vulnerable, for example disabled or other children, as well as anyone if they have a weapon and a desire to harm... I bet many think a sorry or a time out makes it equal, but they should have the same consequences as a fully grown murder, if you're going act like an 'adult', by doing an 'adult' crime, you should punished like one as well

What sickens me most is how much these little boys were protected. In 1944 a 14 year old black boy was giving death by the electric chair for a crime that he didn’t even do. His name was George Stinney. Ofc he was convicted of the crime bc he was black but he was literally 14 and he did not do the crime. The actual killer who did the crime that George was convicted of was actually found after George had already been killed. This honestly blows my mind because NOTHING was done to protect George his story is so sad. I’m in Ireland and to echo what everyone else here has been saying, this case hit the country in a massive way. Personally, I feel that the law here on the anonymity of minors needs to be addressed. Comparing this to the Jamie Bulger case in the UK in 1993 where the boys were named, these boys were older and in this day and age had far more information and knowledge of what their actions truly meant. These boys did horrendous, despicable, evil things (there aren’t words to adequately describe the nature of their actions) and were deemed competent enough to stand trial and be convicted and yet they are afforded anonymity while poor Ana’s family have to see her name and face all over the media while her murderers aren’t legally allowed to be named... I don’t see it as fair personally. I can only hope that we won’t have another case like this and we won’t need to consider this again.

This case is so heartbreaking. How sad we get to know everything about ana and her murder yet the murderer identity is protected, that seems so unfair. She deserved so much more. Both the boys were guitly, doing nothing, luring her there knowing what his friend would do and lying made him just as guitly.

Oh yeah, poor murderers, let's not intimidate them. I have said it before and I'll say it again: if you are old enough to kill, you are old enough to suffer the consequences. I can excuse the special treatment towards Boy B because there wasn't a lot of evidence against him (and in my opinion he should have been charged with 'accomplice to murder' or even a lesser charge. I do feel like he was manipulated). But Boy A is vile and he shouldn't be allowed to hold his mom's hand. Was Ana allowed the save courtesy when he was brutally murdering her??? Wasn't Ana intimidated by him when he was brutally murdering her? Wasn't Ana too young to have her life ruined???? Why should this boy be protected when Ana wasn't? I’ve listened to a lot of true crime stories, and obviously they are all tragic and sad. But this one has affected me more than others. Ana was clearly a caring and kind young girl, who had suffered greatly at the hands bullies, and all she yearned for was a friend. The boys took advantage of that vulnerability. And the murder itself was so violent, her last moments must have been so awful. It’s just unfathomable.

Boy B was so manipulative. He came across very childlike and played with LEGO in the detention centre to trick the psychological profilers. His parents are Polish and it was said that they tried to get him out of the country before the police got him. Thankfully the gardai got to him first.

Boy B’s dad: “You scumbags!” Boy b: Had lead Ana to the abandoned building knowing that his friend is messed up in the head (reference to when boy a said “Let’s murder someone”). Boy B’s dad: “Congrats for charging an innocent boy” Boy B: Had literally SEEN how Boy A was about to rape Ana and ran away, not telling anyone and lying to the police. This case is honestly horrifying, especially considering they aren’t much older than I am. The fact that boy A doesn’t seem to show a lot of remorse, like the amount a normal person would (he is no way near normal, he’s sick in the head), is quite scary; we’ll never know who they are, they’ll walk among us at some point and we’ll never know. Boy A, in the future, could marry someone and that someone might never know they’ve married someone who tried to rape (his pp was probably to small to penetrate) and then later killed an innocent girl. Ana honestly seems like someone I’d get along very well with, she sounded really nice albeit a bit awkward (as am I). I’m honestly shocked at the amount of people in these comments defending the boys; I could understand sorta defending boy B since he technically didn’t lay a finger on her but he was/is guilty because he led her there knowing that Boy A had some messed up thoughts. I’ve seen so many people defending them, someone even said something like “Don’t call them monsters, they are just screwed up” and another person said something like “They should still have rights”, personally? They shouldn’t have rights, boy b maybe but boy A definitely, why should someone who murdered a 14 year old girl in such a brutal way with such little remorse, have any rights? He isn’t 13 anymore and either way, they committed a terrible crime, they should be treated as a criminal and not as a “scared little boy :(“. Such disgusting people and honestly? Boy B’s dad is kinda gross too for not acknowledging what his son and friend did, although i kinda do understand that he’s probably in denial about his son, he is probably going to defend his son no matter what….in normal circumstances that would be good but uh…yeah, not in this case.

Boy B is just as guilty. He didn’t even tell his parents what he saw that day. Ik it’s probably not likely but if he had ran home and told his parents immediately (or even found a bystander on the way) and called 911 Ana might have survived. If my friend told me they wanted to murder a specific person and then asks me to bring that person to an abandoned house, I’d connect the dots pretty quickly.

I think Boy B's alleged reaction is quite normal. If you witnessed a brutal rape and murder at 13 you'd probably be scared stiff (and also maybe afraid that the murderer would do the same to you). HOWEVER it seems clear that Boy B was involved somewhat in the planning of this murder so he's definitely culpable.

Same. I agree with the jury, who said this likely would not have even happened if Boy B hadn't lured Ana to that abandoned house. AFTER Boy A told him beforehand that he wanted to kill Ana. Boy B knew exactly what he was doing. Just because he (allegedly) didn't take part in the act of beating Ana, doesn't mean he is any less responsible for her death than Boy A is.
