I've had an e-C4 for a little over a year after extensive research and absolutely love it. No significant criticisms, yet. Yes, the range is limited, but if you need greater range, don't buy it. I can do a week of commuting and still have about 80 miles left, so it suits my lifestyle, although the range does drop in cold weather. It is comfortable, a joy to drive, and I can get my wife's electric wheelchair in the boot (just!) and my granddaughter's child seat in the rear. Any niggles? Ummm... Oh, the wipers don't quite wipe far enough on the driver's side, and the voice control can be a bit hit and miss. Does it beat the MG4? Not for price, but it's more comfortable and has the HUD which is a great practical and safety feature.

I went to buy the Leaf one year ago (as my first ev) but came out with the eC4, I get on fine with it. Last year on a range test in good weather I did a 190mile round trip with 12% left iirc averaging 4.6m/kw In ECO mode. Lucky to get 3.6 in the winter. The right had wiper stick has a button on the end which shows Battery %age on the through the wheel screen followed by two resettable trips. There is a similar button on the indicator stalk for a selection of customisations to the same screen. The Slide out drawer about the glove box is to house your Tablet with the Citroën tablet mount that clips into the pop out holder above the drawer, tbh it gets used as extra storage. (But you knew that from the eC4 review ;-) ) I did fancy IONIC 5 or KIA EV6, but due to the addition few grand you pay for BEV I had to set my sights slightly lower. I wasn't happy when the eC4 X came out not long after I got the eC4, as it appears to have a much better view out the rear when driving, and the additional boot space (I had changed from an estate) I thought the same as you about the "B" mode, but that said if I had several to select from I would be mainly in the one that gives the most return. Yes I am a tight .... tighter than a true Yorkshire Man by the sounds of it, I am 1/4 Scot though.

I have an e c4 2023 model and I am very satisfied with it. As for the range, the range increases drastically if you drive in eco mode. It also consumes very little in the town and on winding open roads in B mode. I went on a 300km trip recently. my consumption with air conditioning was an incredible 12.4 kw/100km, average 89km/h. I arrived at my destination without charging and without problems.

Great timing, guys - I spoke to Citroen this morning to arrange a test of the EC4X tomorrow. My only concern is getting stuff in through that boot opening, but other than that it will suit my needs perfectly.

I’ve bought a few Citroens in the past - always 1-3 years old and Citroen approved warranty. The great thing is you can extend the warranty each year up to 100k miles from Citroen, it’s a good price, comprehensive and inclusive of breakdown cover. Second hand E-C4 low mileage are now under £20k from Citroen.

I've got an ë-C4 for a year now, and I enjoy the comfort like you do. That was the biggest reason that I chose it. Range and efficency are actually not bad, and I hoped that you could test the new motor already to see the improvement. btw. Percentage can be selected in presets, or press the button on the right stalk. DAB radio can be preset as default as well.

I've had an eC4 for nearly 12 months. Very comfortable, range hasn't been an issue. It will easily achieve 3.9-4.2 mi/kwh in winter, 4.5 upwards in decent weather. Not sure why DAB and battery % couldn't be found because there is indeed DAB radio as standard and the battery % can also be displayed by going into the settings and selecting what the two customisable display options will show on the main driving display.
@DavidJohnston58

Opted for the eC4 as it ticked high in all the boxes for what was available at time of order. My first ever Citroen I find it really comfortable, I love the looks, has lot of kit (Shine plus), roomy enough and currently in summer the economy is at 4.7. Falls off a cliff on motorways in winter of course 😢 Would probably have gone for imho the less desirable MG4 if had been available, for the better range. But I really do love the Citroen. That's all, the rest is a rant! 🗣️😖 I'm in Ireland, so charging is a big challenge, all local journeying is fine but longer journeys are woeful. Yesterday every charger in Monaghan was showing as engaged except a seven header at Circle K which showed 5 available. They only built space for three vehicles! 😮 Two were charging and one was parked on the pad with no lead on and loads of parking bays available, waited 20mins and a destination charger came free at other side of town. Charged for an hour, got 26 miles. Why install seven heads and only build pads for three cars! That was one of the better trips. ESB, Weev and others are promising more rapid chargers and newer replacement for older ones. If they don't deliver this year, much as I don't want to go back, I'll be in a petrol C4 next year.

eC4 driver here. i would avoid the normal petrol, they have proven to be very problematic across many models. reason is the timing belt running in oil, disintegrating itself into the oil pan and choking the oilpump with small fibres of it, leading to catastrophic engine failures. I would only buy the new hybrid e-dsc (mild hybrid 6sp dual clutch) if it should be petrol , try that, it should have a timing chain instead, which is proof they couldnt fix that problem. Its sad, because its actually a cool engine. Has qood torque and a nice low rpm grunt. Some refer to them as mini V8s. Really good on fuel consumption also. The diesel (4zyl 1.5) is a really good engine, the EAT8 is also really fitting the car. i have driven every variant besides the new mild hybrid, in my opinion the BEV version is the best of them, its crazy how good the combination actually is if you free your mind about BEV is ICE discussions. And if you have the infrastructure of course. In Germany its actually fine today. Then the diesel EAT8. The petrol has its charm to be honest, but it requires excessive maintenance. Which defeates the whole purpose of that engine, cost effectiveness. The new mild hybrid comes with a 6s dual clutch instead of the 8s auto which i have no experience with.

I seriously considered the e-C4 just before the launch of the e-C4 X as a replacement for the MG ZS (1st Gen 44 kWh) and I loved the comfort of the Flying Carpet suspension, but there were 2 reservations I had. 1st the steering was too vague for me. I guess it would be great in the city but not on rural roads, if only you could dial in a little more feel. 2nd was the range from a 50 kWh battery, but the new 54 kWh battery certainly would have made the difference and I would say that with an experience EV driver would get about 200+ miles real world and that for me is a real difference. I ended up going for a 2019 used low milage Tesla Standard Range Plus for £31k and that real world has a WLTP of 254 ie about 205/210 miles range on a long run and it is ample for UK trips having just done a round trip from Essex to Scotland.

A Great Review. I had a Citroen C4 Coupe which was quirky and uncommon. I loved it in spite of all the reliability issues, and was devastated when I eventually had to replace it. I had three other Citroens previously so was hoping to get the new C4. In the showroom the new C4 looked okay but I was not convinced. When I see on on the road, the proportions just don't look right, it looks odd, and no matter how much I try, I just can't bring my self to like it. So, I then considered a DS 4 - nice but too much bling and fussy in design. I would not consider another brand in the Stellantis Group so with a heavy heart, I no longer drive a Citroen. I've gone to the other side - Volkswagen Group but very happy with my new electric car.

One aspect that these days will cut short ownership of a used fuel car, is when the electrics start failing and playing up enough for it to fail the MOT. Seeing as electric cars are even more stuffed full of things electrical, I wonder what their reliability or shelf life will be once things begin failing?

My wife has a DS3. It is very comfortable, nippy, nice to drive. The one thing that Citroen/DS are not good at is smartphone apps. The app for the DS3 is awful. Continuing taps to refresh, at times I give up. Limited information. Preheating or cooling of the car interior before driving off is frustrating, we don’t bother using it anymore. 2 things need attention to improve their car’s appeal, as mentioned the App and range calculation.

I've had the eC4 for four months. It's a great car. Disappointed with the U.I. on the infotainment system g it can get laggy & it froze up last week. And just to confirm, there is no option to have the battery % on the screen! Above the glove box, when you had the 2nd level out, there's also a 3rd that pops out to place a phone or a tablet on. Definitely does have DAB+ Digital radio. It's buried in the sources menu. I've got it active but switching back to FM sends you digging. It's strange it doesn't have navigation. The eC4 does.

The E-C4 is a nice car, sensible size, nice interior. But like all the Stellantis cars, it’s lumbered with a battery that is at least 10kWh too small and a charge spread that is 50kW too slow. Their EV specifications would have been be OK in 2018, now they are just outdated - and far too much money for what they provide What they should have done is develop an actual EV platform, rather than a comprised one that is designed for a fossil burner. They have multiple brands that should be using such a platform, but they just haven’t bothered and it shows

There’s a reason there are cheap deals on leases. The MG4 has 50% more power, 34kW more peak charging power, 15.4kWh more battery capacity and 45 miles more motorway range. But those are just numbers, the MG4 is rear wheel drive and has a great chassis, suspension and steering set up, so get it on a country road and you can really enjoy every one of those 201hp. It probably does have DAB, at 7:35 the screen shows FM-DAB Follow-up. I suspect to change to DAB you press RADIO FM on the top left of the radio screen. I have the eC4 hatch and the whole touchscreen is unintuitive. The Citroen website builder shows it's on the lowest model.

DAB dropped as "a thing" by all broadcasters in Ireland. Radio by internet is seen as a more realistic and economical option. Many mobile carriers offer unlimited data contracts, so no reason not to use this in the car, once you have 4g coverage. Moving on, when commenting on which car has what, you forgot to mention access to the national Tesla charger network. My own personal circumstances make the hatchback preferable, yet as always each to their own. Aura? No way, they are Cat. Better get the 2 year old Citroen hatch at 16k and enjoy it. Thanks for the video. £1000 for 9% extra battery, for 20 or so miles? Come on, make that standard. What a load of hydraulics, as you demonstrated.

Interesting - in the UK it's actually a legal requirement to have DAB if the car has a radio. (I imagine for this car it is in a setting or menu or button etc somewhere.)

@@connclissmann6514 In 2020 (when the legislation was introduced) the UK was still essentially in the EU, and it seems to be implementing an EU rule. One of the GOV UK pages I found says: "Digital radio (sometimes known as DAB: digital audio broadcasting) is now very widely fitted to new cars, but there is still a small proportion of new cars where analogue radio is standard fit. In order to ensure that all consumers purchasing a new car can enjoy the many advantages of digital radio, article 113 of EU Directive 2018/1972 (PDF, 2.8MB) (the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC)) requires that all passenger vehicles with integrated radios first placed on the market after 21 December 2020 must be fitted with radios which are capable of receiving digital radio stations." So (unless it's been repealed since) I believe it is also an EU rule which means all new cars (fitted with radios) after that point in the EU should also include DAB. Which of course doesn't mean anyone has to *transmit* anything over DAB, but the radios in new cars should be capable of receiving it if they did.

Yep, I had a Zara Picasso for twelve years, not an ounce of trouble; comfy, spacious and quite economical too. My main expense was also the, obligatory, cam belt after 10 years. @@geoffersvoiceofreason2534 I bought brand new 2015 c4 grand picasso, which was the new refresh I believe. It drove great and was very comfy and practical. However the reliability and customer service was horrendous. Within a few years the seal on the engine oil dipstick failed spuing oil everywhere (a known fault). Then shortly after the altinator failed (again within 3 years). Car was off the road for over 6 months in citreons garage lockup cause citroen garage were clueless. Citroen hq were unhelpful either financially or in actually resolving issue. In the end it took a specialist car electronics garage to diagnose a faulty alternator connection from factory. New alternator and battery had to be replaced like for like at over £2000 (citroen specific parts) at my local mitsubishi garage, something citroen garage couldn't manage. My local citroen garage had ripped people off charging for work that was not carried out anyway so stopped using them after then. I've had issues with tons of sensors, wing mirrors, indicators, electric handbrake etc etc. The electronic speedo dash failed twice requiring a new panel. The wheels were dangerously misaligned from factory so would have excessive wear on the inside of the front right tire ( I found that out after a blowout). The front left wheel rubbed on the arch when full lock After about 5 years a cylinder blew on the motorway ... again a £1500 bill. Within the 7 years we had the car I think AA had been called out at least 4 times, each time the AA slagged of the car/citroen for there reputation. The car was serviced regularly at citroen for the first 3.5 years then at mitsubishi. None of the electric issues could be diagnosed or fixed. When we got rid last year there was only 93,000 miles on the clock with the gearbox on its last legs (again a known issue @90,000 miles). There's probably more little things that I've forgotten, so no ... i would never touch one again especially a ev. Every repair was out if my pocket even for known faults or within warranty. The only time I wasn't billed was for the faulty dipstick seal, the dashboard replacement and when the citroen garage left the handbrake off a van which then rolled downhill into the back of my car in their carpark. Im awaiting a kia ev6 in a few weeks time. I've had a 3 mitsubishi, a mazda, seat, fiat, vauxhall, Nissan ... none of which have excessive issues like citroen had. All the cars I've had have been new or pre-reg and I've kept until they died. Usually more than ten years ... and that's mainly cause I live on the coast so they rust quicker. My local citroen dealer/garage is not where I bought the car. It arrived within pre existing Ford dealership 6 months after i bought the car and disappeared 3 or so years later. There was speciation that citroen themselves removed the franchise....
