@davidcolin6519Ай бұрын
@@L.A.Tex_Norway The Inster is a KIA model, expect Hyundai to have n equivalent, though. Unfortunately, I don't really see that Europe is fighting back. Any time you spec a European rival to the standards that KIA/Hyundai and BYD, you find that European comes in at between 10K and 20K more expensive, and it seems that the only European country which is intending to produce reasonably priced, dedicated EVs is Renault. Stelantis just don't seem interested and although VAG has a dedicated EV chassis, their base trim levels are dreadful and they rapidly become way overpriced as soon as you look at anything else. I mean, seriously, an iD3 specced to the same standard as an MG4 costs significantly MORE that a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or KIA EV6!

@@Payteer WTF are you talking about? The Inster is expected to sell at €22K, while the R5 is expected at €27K (base models for both). BTW, I am not in the least interested in any of the "multi fuel" vehicles. I see absolutely no point in dedicating an entire compartment of an EV to an engine that isn't even going to be there. That means that the C3 is not even in the running. The R5 is expected at pretty much the exact same price as the EV3 where I am. And the base EV3 will almost certainly come with a far higher spec than the R5. It certainly has more power and more claimed range as well as significantly better performance. From what I've seen, the Inster has similar performance to the R5 nad would appear to have significantly better rear room.

Regarding the hybrid at 13:00, hydrogen is a waste of time for private passenger vehicles. Virtually impossible to find a station, and even if they did exist they only have enough hydrogen for < 10 cars a day. Look how miserably the concept fared in California. Toyota can barely give the cars the way. It would make more sense (but not much) if there was 40kwh battery EV with a ICE engine that kicked in to provide charge, a bit like the i3's range extender. Or a fuel cell that could work off ethanol - at least that way it can be filled up from a petrol station. But really I think it's just a bad idea period - we're already seeing 400 mile EVs and that figure will only get larger as things like solid state batteries start showing up.
@kafkaspenАй бұрын
I tend to agree. Hydrogen will probably be the fuel for large trucks and EVs for cars and LCVs. Once batteries get close to the 500 mile range the issues relating to range anxiety (which for 90% of car users is not a real issue) will disappear.
@yeahyeahblahАй бұрын
Hydrogen will be best for planes, as batteries are too heavy.
@drxym26 күн бұрын
@@yeahyeahblah Batteries are getting more energy dense and I suspect that the early adopters for solid state batteries will be drones, aircraft etc. Concerning hydrogen, the big problem with it and planes is that you either have to keep it as pressurized gas or in liquid form and both of those are major issues. Gas needs to be stored in massive, bulky and heavily reinforced containers, and liquid needs to be heavily insulated and vented. Neither seems ideal especially since hydrogen has environmental impacts.

Seeing the Emblem (which will not be 5 tons CO2e lifetime, so let's see the reports) and hearing that BMW is back into hydrogen, makes me wonder if the battery costs and ultimately the emissions have really been the critical factor in mfgrs. trepidation with BEV. Don't get me wrong, I don't have faith that any full sized EV is sustainable, regardless of powertrain. They all are too complex with too many parts and require too many materials to build in actual zero emissions rules that we undoubtedly (yes undoubtedly zero LCA) will have to have. So are mfgrs buying time? Yes. But are some actually assuming that hydrogen fuel cell scales and is lower CO2e to produce, without the materials bottlenecks?
