Hey there. To make the "30" easier, just pronounce it as "tray" (yes, the english word). Tray sounds exactly like "trei", just with some foreign accent to it, so that's way easier than learning the romanian "tr". Instead of "treizeci", say it as "tray zeci" and you're good to go. As for the intimidating long numbers, "douasprezece" (12) means "two towards ten". That's an easy way to remember what to call a number. Don't ask me why it's not "two towards twenty", I have no idea. For higher numbers, say "25", it's "douazeci si cinci" which translates to "twenty and five". This rules applies to all numbers above 20 (except 30, 40, 50 etc). Hopefully this will help! Thank you for trying to learn the language :)

E "doi spre zece" și nu "doi spre douăzeci" fiindcă respectiva cifră de afla pe pozitia unităților și, crescând, tinde către "zece" - aici "zece" nu se referă la numărul 10, ci la locație: unitate, zece, sută, mie. Deci cifra 2 tinde, de pe poziția unității, spre pozitia zecii: doi spre zece.

It's not about us being so gifted that we learn much faster than anyone else on this planet. That's just narcissistic. It's the origin of both languages and the complexity of the vocabulary and grammar. Also english being an international language, we are surrounded by it. Other countries don't have this exposure to romanian language. It's exactly like you trying to learn Dutch or any other language that is not mainstream and part of the educational system of your country and to which you have basically no tangency with. Stop being egocentric and view the big picture from different points of view before making such statement.

Gotta love google translate trolling you - it said "una sută" which is translated as one hundred. Except in Romanian we NEVER say one hundred; we say *a* hundred. One hundred only appears on banknotes. Therefore, the right way to say it is "o sută". The way numbers are formed above 100 is as follows: 100 +xy number. Ex: 121 - 100 21 - o sută douăzeci și unu. 1301- 1000+300+1 o mie trei sute unu. Also, to help you - most of the time, if you can't hear the final i in a word, it's because it actually represents palatalization of the last consonant. Aka, you pronounce it while holding the mouth like saying i but you say the consonant. Ex: ieri - ier, but when you say r hold the mouth as you were saying i (English ee) but say r. Another advice would be to actually look up the meaning of words when learning expressions. It will help you much more. Ex: cheers-noroc. Noroc means luck Bless you - sănătate. Sănătate means health. Happy birthday - la mulți ani. La means towards, mulți means many (for masculine words) and ani means years (an means year). La mulți ani means "to many years!"

I'm not sure it's a good idea to use shortcuts too early. There are so many of them, not to mention the regional dialects. It's probably easier to learn the formal Romanian first and, when you practice with the natives, ask them to speak formal Romanian and to slow down as much as possible. Later, you can slowly introduce the shortcuts and speak more like the locals. Grammar is a pain. For Romanians too :)

Chris Alton / Theoretically is easy to say, practically is hard to do! The problem is the fact that the muscles of the mouth, tongue, neck, etc, all involved in the act of speaking, are strongly connected with the brain. When you learn a new language you understand it logically, but when you try to speak it practically your brain "betrays" you instantly.

don't worry about the grammar at first. just learn as many words as you can . being understood is more important than speaking properly.

Nice pronunciation overall. The letter group "tr" is a tricky one for you as an English speaker, 'cause you'd naturally pronounce it like in "train" or "trap", as opposed to Romanians that spell out the consonants, a bit like Russian, which heavily influences our language albeit being a latin one. The way we say "tr" is milder, softer than Russians would, but that's your phonetic queue right there ;) Imagine a Russian native saying "trouble", soften their heavy accent and you got your Romanian "tr" in "trei" [three] for example Also, in regular speech we don't say "una mie" [one thousand], we just go "o mie" - "una" is kind of archaic at this point, we don't use it in everyday speech, you'll find it written like that on banknotes and in official forms (old timey bureaucracy from the communist era, stil sadly prevalent in many institutions)

Really enjoyed the video, a little tip to help you pronounce 3 ( trei ). Its almost identical in pronounciation with the english "tray", just keep in mind that the romanian T sound is produced with the tongue on the back of the top teeth, and is more akin to the T sound in "Tower"
