You can't repair their cars same as you can't repair your iphone or mac computer. Same s you can't repair your john Dreer tractor or machinery. Plus so many other corporations. Restricting repair information and parts. Installing early failure in devices so they do not last. I went to Paris a couple years ago and the thing that struck me above all was the subway system. It’s incredible and made me really envious. I’m in Oklahoma. I can’t even go to a convenience store without a car. Even Oklahoma City is so sprawling that it’s one of the largest cities in the nation by square miles

Correct me if i'm wrong, but electric cars do pose an ugly problem for our environment too. You already mentioned that the electricity a lot of people use is generated through coal. But on top of that, there is a battery problem. Both with creating and disposing of them. Don't get me wrong, i love electric cars and plan to have one myself someday. But nobody should fool themselves into believing that it's 'good' for the environment. Eventually, we will have much better battery technology and much more efficient solar panels but until we do, electric cars will remain as much of an environmental hazard as anything else on the road.

It's worse. He doesn't really care if he succeeds at going to Mars. It's just an incentive for investors to pour money into his companies. Same goes for Tesla, which may be the most viable of his companies in the long run. But do keep in mind he's reinventing stuff that literally already existed. Do I think Elon would love to be 'the guy' that brings us to Mars? Yes, of course. But it's less important if he succeeds or not. Musk himself might not even live long enough to witness people actually going to Mars. His prediction of going to Mars within the next decade or two is extremely optimistic. It's literally ignoring very serious problems we currently have no solution for. Same is true for expanding the range of electric cars. There's a pretty hard limit they have already hit.

The only people who actually DO THE WORK of trying to get green energy are chemists and physicists doing pioneering research to find new inventions. And where are people supposed to live if not in the suburbs? Yes, they obviously aren't perfect but the idea that people want or should want to live in massive towering housing blocks just so they can have a greengrocer on the corner is obviously a falsity. Suburbs were the answer to this problem! And worked because wanted to live there rather than crammed into city centres. The answer is better planned towns/villages/cities. The "sprawl" is unavoidable as populations increase (unless you want people to live in squalor) but car reliance could be negated with planning. Also utopian to believe that public transport will ever be able to compete with the convenience a car brings. Trains can't bring you to any place you want, any time, day or night. The costs of a service even beginning to compete with personal transport would be so obscenely expensive as to render it a non starter. You would need a bus service on every street in the world, passing every 5 minutes to even come close. The real way forward today is ebikes and e-scooters. Probably as efficient or more efficient than mass public transport but with all the convenience of personal transport.

It could happen soon, but there are many factors. During the recession of 2001 the market carried a PE of 25 (to points over fair valuation). That means the market on a whole (as measured by the S&P 500) very over valued and due for a correction. What caused that recession was the dot com bubble. Right now we have a massive tech bubble and the market is currently at a PE of 26. The main difference is right now interest rates are very lower and more jobs are available. So if we do enter a bear market, I don't think it will be the total market. I think it will mostly the tech industry. And I think it will be all about the stock prices and not the earnings.
