And if you want to read about female Thor in Norse mythology: this one time Mjolnir was stolen by some dude who said he would return it only if Freyja herself agreed to marry him. So Thor, convinced by Loki, put on a wedding dress while Loki turned into a bridesmaid and Thor just pretended to be Freyja until he got Mjolnir back, to which he proceeded to beat the dude to death while Loki watched eating whatever the Norse gods had instead of popcorn.

It is true that blood transfusions can be dangerous if done incorrectly, but that’s usually a result of using the wrong blood type, not because of the genders of the donors
@mattc3581
@mattc3581 11 ай бұрын
The study was published in Jun 2022, it looked at the outcomes for hundreds of critically ill patients that received blood transfusions. The results appear to show that for both men receiving blood from women donors, and for women receiving blood from men donors, the survival probability was noticeably lower than when patients received blood from the same sex donor. Obviously this doesn't mean they are completely incompatible, the survival probability difference isn't huge, but this is a real published and peer reviewed study and real findings. Whether JK Rowling actually had any useful point she was making I don't know, but blood bank guy was talking out his arse.
@MachiNoShaku
@MachiNoShaku 9 ай бұрын
@@mattc3581 you cant take anything conclusive from hundreds of patients that already are in critical conditions. i tried reading a bit more into this study and i found a response to the original one ("Is donor-recipient sex associated with transfusion-related outcomes in critically ill patients?" by Henry Wood and Suzy Morton), which is quite critical of the methodology used in it. besides critically ill people (which the original study seems to be the only one for this scenario), there is no correlation of mortality. this lack of correlation is peer reviewed from bigger studies of hundreds of thousands of patients. (also mentioned in the response). so i would say that JK Rowling is talking out of her arse.

@@MachiNoShaku This was a published study. There may well be flaws in the study and/or it may only be true in very narrow circumstances, but they published the findings. You can criticise the study if you want, but somewhat unfair to criticise someone else for quoting that study. People painting this as if she personally made up an entirely fictional thing to suit her own agenda, which clearly isn't the case. She may have been misinformed if the study turns out to be flawed but she was repeating the conclusion that a completely independent group of researchers had reached, something which you are also doing in your post. So I suggest both of you are quite reasonably repeating information you have read and believe to be correct, and not talking out your asses, as you put it.
@MachiNoShaku

@@mattc3581 i have issues with what she said since she has a substantial platform, and spreading these types of false conclusions can be damaging. you can take a look at the anti-vax movement and the original study that started it which was really shoddy for example. from my perspective she looks like she is lying by omission since she said found a study that said that blood transfusions of different sex cause poorer outcomes that lead to fatalities when it was only when they were critically ill. assuming the study is correct for these circumstances (which is still up in the air), she still misconstrued a study since the way she words it implies its for the general population. i dont really get the point youre trying to make by saying that im also doing the same things as her by taking conclusions from what i read, since it seems you imply im also hypocritical in a way? which its not a good counterpoint. although my gut reaction is that this study is bs and shouldnt be taken in consideration, if stuff like this is true and it ends up being a factor to consider for people that might need blood the most, then it should be taken into account. but since the conclusions are contradicted by bigger, more general studies about these kinds of things, which seems to be generally agreed by people in this field; i'll take those conclusions for the time being. these are the reason why i believe comparing me to JK Rowling is not a good comparison. i dont expect much to change on our points so i will just drop it here.

20:34 - As the resident grilled cheese maker in the household, I have been saying for literal decades that the reason most chefs who have a hard time with making a good grilled cheese are screwing up is because they’re overthinking it. If you want a grilled cheese like your grandmother used to make for you, you’re not using fresh-baked sourdough and imported asiago unless your grandmother was Julia Child. You want a grilled cheese that takes you back to when you were seven years old? Store-bought sliced white bread and cheap singles that probably have to be legally sold as “processed cheese food”, maybe add something like garlic or bacon bits if you’re feeling spicy. You know how you can’t make a recipe taste the same if you don’t use the same ingredients? That goes both ways. Anyhoo. End of stupid rant. I think listening to Robin’s rants probably put me in a mood or something, but his are definitely more entertaining than mine are.

"Wine" in that context can mean two things. It didn't always mean just alcoholic beverages, and the Greek word had two meanings. One meaning is of course the alcoholic beverage, the *other* is sweet, unfermented grape juice. There's a number of Christians who believe that the wine Jesus turned the water into, considering the one who tried said it was the "best wine", was the sweetest, and most fresh grape juice they had tasted in a long time, or at the very least the sweetest they had at the wedding feast
@jismeraiverhoeven
@jismeraiverhoeven 11 ай бұрын
@@DaveMelonfireyour comment shows exactly why context is important, and from the context you can tell that the "wine" jesus turned the water into was alcoholic as the ceremonial master commented about the quality that it was normal to first give high quality and THEN low quality wich makes sense because once you are drunk you wont notice the quality all that much. He wouldnt have commented that if he was simply talking about grape juice
@DaveMelonfire
@DaveMelonfire 11 ай бұрын
@@jismeraiverhoeven That goes into contexts even outside the Bible as well as in. There's a whole article in the study Bible I use that gives even outside sources on why the term "best" wine would in fact be sweet, and therefore non-alcoholic. There is also context within John, where John talks about newness with the coming of Christ. Why would John have this event in there if it wasn't "new wine", or unfermented grape juice, that he had made? Plus, what you said about people not caring about the quality even furthers the fact that if they were drunk already, why would Jesus, one who knows the Scriptures, give them even more intoxicating wine when it clearly states in the OT not to do that?
@jismeraiverhoeven
@jismeraiverhoeven 11 ай бұрын
@@DaveMelonfire he was simply stating a custom. That doesnt mean that people there where already drunk because as you said if they where jesus probably wouldnt have done it. Slepnier is in some Marvel movies for a few shots. J/k that’s not the closest to a female Loki, he regularly took the form of a human female and went off and had regular human families. Being a kid back in time was both great *and* terrible. Summer holidays were mostly walking in the countryside followed by long periods of boredom trying to decide what to do. There was the freedom of just going off somewhere with no contact for hours on end, but that tied to a feeling that if you got hurt, you would have to somehow get back home on your own (maybe with siblings to help) It was NOT a Golden Age like some people say, we had a house phone and a radio/record player, and that was about it. No computer, mobiles, internet, TV, video, or pretty much anything entertaining. As I graduated from Pedestrian to Cyclist and then Biker my world expanded and I had a few actual friends that were from outside our village - that was great. And riding in a loose group of bikers (not even close to a Gang lol) on Sundays was the amped up version of wandering the fields with my siblings. All the engines running as we dropped into a car park at some random seaside town, followed by the deafening silence when we stopped was pretty cool too. The mid 70's was a stupid amount of time ago, but stuff seemed to happen at high speed - records gave way to cassette tape which gave way to CDs, and there was all kinds of entertainment - even portable stuff like the Sony Walkman seemed like something from the Future back then. Things have kept advancing (mostly) so I keep watching and enjoying people getting outraged by important and unimportant issues - keep going!

I thought I had a lawyer the next day but lawyer and the judge waited until 430pm half hour before the court closed for the day to tell me I didn’t have any lawyer and would be locked up over the weekend if I couldn’t find someone to sign me out I found someone and left got pulled over on the way home for no reason then had to go to court every Monday Wednesday and Thursday for the next four months to prove I wasn’t mentally unstable while being forced to go to a psychiatrist for four hours, Tuesdays and Fridays. All cause the cop that arrested me knew my mom sold pot and they never caught her before it became legal so they decided to fuck with me and make my life hell for long as they could then dismiss the case.

Just a reminder, these people thought Prehistoric Planet, a documentary, was “woke” because the T. Rex looked significantly closer to how an actual T. Rex is actually supposed to look than the one in Jurassic Park did.

In 5:59, there are so many disputes I can make, but I’ll say one. Monkeys and other fruit-eating animals ( usually monkeys that’s what you see articles about) get drunk from eating fermenting fruit. No one placed it there, it fell to the ground, and bacteria caused aerobic fermentation, which made ethanol.

4:30 As a young adult, I’m starting to think my own cynicism needs to be toned down a tad if I’m impressed by such a sane post from a 74-year-old. Why does it surprise me that some people Turtledove’s age aren’t lead-poisoned out of their minds?

Harry Turtledove who responded about being born in 1949 and lynching and segregation is an alternate history author. He wrote a series of books what would happen if aliens attacked during WWII as well as other alternate timelines. Just a random thought as I watched the video.

8:48 Get used to this: Most of them _have never read the bible, or any 'holy' book,_ in full. :/ The cherry-picking is slightly caused by the usage of 'verses', and is encouraged, rather than a full context.

21:39 To make this even more hilarious, Loki was in trouble with the other gods, as usual, and needed to fix it. Long story short, he decided to shapeshift into a mare in order to distract a very powerful stallion. Loki then gave birth to Sleipnir, Odin's steed, who is an eight-legged horse. Norse gods couldn't care less what you think they should be, mainly Loki, but I could see Thor finding a way to become a woman. Probably just to mess with Loki.
@Karak-_-
@Karak-_- 9 ай бұрын
No, the reason why he shapeshifted into a mare was because gods commisioned a giant to build a wall, but they didn't want to pay him, so Loki "distracted" his horse so he didn't finish on time.
@BlazingShadowSword

@@Karak-_- That's why I said long story short. The only really relevant part of the story was the part where Loki turned into a female horse. The rest of the story didn't matter for the point I was making at the time.

@@Karak-_- The version I read was that Loki was the reason the 1 giant was chosen and that he knew he had his badass horse. The pay was discussed before all the other Gods knew about his horse and so they all were okay with it. But once the Gods found out that Loki knew beforehand and refused to tell them, they forced him to fix what he caused...again.
