With someone saying it was from a car wreck, the only thing that makes sense is the airbag. If the airbag deployed (they don't deploy in every wreck) and covered her mouth, I could see how the cake covering her mouth could relate to that incident. Especially considering how distressing it is to have one's airways blocked. If it wasn't the airbag, it's hard to imagine how else the cake would trigger the PTSD. For a PTSD trigger to happen, there has to be some part of the incident that reminds/triggers the person of the original traumatic stress. Although that trigger can also be based on the way something makes you feel, and the trigger and original trauma don't have to be similar/identical in physical terms. My understanding of PTSD is from my own (professionally diagnosed) CPTSD, so my understanding of regular PTSD might be off as there's a bit of a difference between the 2. I'm just trying to make sense of how the cake was a trigger, and the airbag makes the most sense. I'm not certain if my third "paragraph" is accurate for regular PTSD, I just know that's at least a factor in CPTSD. Wish I could learn more about that case cause I'm curious how the cake trigger connects to the traumatic wreck.

@@IridescentW I think it could be a few other things--like being in a previous abusive relationship where she was choked (or even hit in the face, grabbed, some other forceful gesture--by an airbag, hand or otherwise) or some other traumatic incident where she lost the ability to breathe temporarily(--drowning?) The actual event is pure speculation on my part here. PTSD Triggers don't always look related-or at least, not at first glance (by which I mean, like you said--there's always a stimulus that invokes the feeling of the original event but from an onlookers perspective it might not seem remotely related and you, or even the person themselves, may not be able to articulate exactly why it does trigger them. Obviously there are triggers that also make obvious sense out there like fireworks for a war veteran, but this doesn't seem to be one of those cases.) Totally not meaning to disregard your point, it's very well put and thoughtful and I'm sorry you've got first hand experience; I'm just putting my own perspective from someone studying to be a counselor (though I'm only finishing up my bachelors so I've got a long way to go and I am not trying to claim any official authority!) Less related--I don't personally have any form of PTSD, but I do have fairly severe (diagnosed) OCD, and some of my "triggers" (quotations because I know that it's probably not quite the right word here, but it's how my therapist and I describe it) for compulsions and rituals are INCREDIBLY weird. Again--not the same thing and don't want to claim to know what you've gone through, just speculating and bouncing off your comment. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, hopefully this doesn't come across as condescending or anything, you just sounded curious so I decided to throw in my two cents! I agree--one of the first things I establish before a first/second/thirdish date is that I want to split the payment. There's a couple of reasons behind that logic but one of them is just that I don't know the other person's financial situation but I do know mine and I'd rather just split the bill than put someone in a situation where they feel like they have to spend a lot of money or cover my side just because that's what's commonplace. The other main reason is when I was younger and more clueless (by which I mean 18/19/20) I'd let guys buy me a nice dinner and then pressure me to "repay" them (not with money, if you catch my drift) so if a date doesn't go well I can make a clean break and not feel guilty. Splitting is just a lot easier until you know each other better--usually after I've established a relationship with someone we just take turns (informally--if one of us pays a few times in a row we're not going to hold it against each other lol.)

When it comes to the cake face shove, I feel the need to share that there are some cakes that have metal rods in them for support. One young woman lost one of her eyes to such a rod when one of her friends did said prank. There are some bakeries now that have that warning stickered on to some of their cake boxes because of it. I don't fault the woman divorcing the husband immediately after, given the wife had told the husband repeatedly to not do it. If he is so willing to ignore such a small ask, he's liable to do it for something more important to her, just because he wouldn't see it in the same light. @@amog8202Two things: 1) HRT wouldn’t magically make the glands appear like you have correctly identified, and 2) HRT stands for Hormonal Replacement Therapy, and typically introduces more estrogen and/or progesterone (hormones) to the body. I’m no doctor but if I had to guess the glands are latent in men but not unusable. You can actually look it up too, there’s tons of articles from various news sources and articles (TIME being one of them) that go over the requirements and conditions under which men can produce milk!

My parents did the cake smash. Dad offered her a bite of the first slice. She saw dad's trademark "I-have-a-joke" smirk and had enough time to try to sputter out "Don't you dare!" Before he smooshed it up to her nose and down her chin. Giving her a great cake goatee. She cacked and retaliates by slapping his slice in the general direction of his face. He tried to catch what he could in his mouth then choked because he couldn't stop laughing while she painted his face with frosting. I was old enough that my parents' "official marriage" was one of my earliest memories. They were together until cancer took dad 30 years later, mom has never remarried. So... Cake smash= good only if you have the same sense if humor.

Idk man, the house/family actually seems like a really good first date. In the same way you mentioned bowling, it shows how your partner acts around family. Do they lie to try and impress them? Are they rude to your family? Etc. And when it comes to taking someone to your house, it really depends on the person. I didn’t feel safe going anywhere because for me it’s a sensory hazard. Trying to get to know someone and have a conversation in a crowded public area with many overwhelming sights, sounds, and smells can be unpleasant. It's not really the pronouns, they're just a symbol. The real problem people have with that is that pronouns are used to acknowledge people--it is someone's choice of a differing, non "acceptable" form of gender or gender expression, and only truly mentally deranged people actually get mad at the pronouns. What truly bothers them is if someone comes out and says, "I am a trans woman and my pronouns are she/her", They do not believe this person is legitimately a woman. Their conservative, toxic mindset cannot allow this person to exist in their world view, much less have that level of power over their own sexuality. And acceptance of, using someone's preferred pronouns, is normalization; It's one step in a long process of making it normal and every day for people like that to just exist. So it's not that using the pronouns that really bothers these people... It's the acknowledgement, it's taking that early step, it's clearing the way for people to be accepted in the future. It's always about the acceptance.

I would agree with this, as I do think it's a reasonable compromise barring one thing. Housing should absolutely never be tied to employee. We already made the dire mistake of tying health insurance, retirement, pension, etc. to work which means us workers are stuck with a whole lot more loyalty to the company than the company is to us. People all the time lose insurance for layoffs. Unless we put a law in place that says companies who layoff or fire any employee can't evict employee for 6 months to give them time to find other accommodations, I genuinely don't believe any corporation of any kind should be allowed to own private property except for hosting short term travel of employees and even in that case there must be a hard limit. I also don't believe anyone should be able to buy property who doesn't have a least a residence status in the US (or any country really). Foreign investors, while not the entire probably are certainly a contributing factor. All that said, I do think this is an inevitability sadly. We're looking more and more dystopian by the day.
