At least the church I used to go was when I asked them about my sexuality They never once made me feel like they hated me or was disappointed with me and answered my questions as best they could. They were upfront with their beliefs (that everyone sins) but it doesn't mean God loved us any less nor that he doesn't want us to come to him of our own free will.. So yeah I love those guys/people.

My parents don’t understand when some things they say doesn’t make me feel okay or happy. They don’t understand why I do what I do. (flapping my sleeves like a bird out of excitement, not taking my meds to feel normal, acting like a child because it’s fun, and other things) They don’t understand it’s very hard for us to grasp certain things. No one understands a lot of us and things we do/say/think. They just don’t. And it hurts. But very little of the population understands and loves us for who we are, and that in itself is enough to make us feel better.

The reason I rarely tell anyone I have autism is because then I feel pitied like I'm gonna die in two weeks... like come on! I can make myself meals, buy my own stuff, have a responsibility and a life outside of school and work... yet people treat autistic people like we cant do anything right, are always gonna be "childish", or are just plain stupid and shouldn't exist. It saddens me that mental disorders, illnesses, and other things you usually inherit are treated like life or death. I'm actually kinda grateful for having ADHD and Autism, it's been a wild ride so far having both of those and despite the hiccups, it feels nice. 5:15: just fyi, it’s food *deserts* not *desserts*. basically it’s when there’s a lack of grocery stores/any kind of healthy and fresh food stores in an area. food deserts are a huge contributor to obesity and hunger in america (and probs other countries, but i don’t know much about them)
@sylverscale3 жыл бұрын
It'd such a strange concept to me (German here). Even the tiny village my grandparents lived in had a small supermarket, a butcher, a farm that had their own store that sold all kinds of produce. Next town over are a large supermarket, two discounters, a weekly market, drug store that delivered over to my grandparents village... I live in a larger city and there's supermarkets, bakeries, grocery stores etc everywhere, even in poorer areas (they sometimes have more discounters there which makes sense). Places we don't have a lot of stores/supermarkets are rich areas where people have their mansions (which also makes sense, way more sense than not having direct access to healthy food in poorer areas). It's definitely a structural problem that should not exist in countries like the US. I get rural areas not having many stores or direct access though I haven't experienced it in Germany but food deserts shouldn't exist in cities at all.
@yourawfulhearttosong3 жыл бұрын
@@sylverscale yeah you’re definitely right. i don’t know enough about the topic but i remember hearing once that part of the problem is the government subsidizes (supports financially) larger factory-farm types that produce things like grains that are used to make processed foods (chips, pop-tarts, etc), but doesn’t subsidize fruit farms and smaller farms, so fresh food is much more expensive and it’s less likely that supermarkets and stores in poorer areas would stock it. and even if they could, people couldn’t buy it. it doesn’t make sense to me. the child hunger rate is so high but people object to having free lunches in schools because “iTs COmMuNIsM”.
@NecrochildK3 жыл бұрын
@@sylverscale It can happen in very small towns here, but the vast majority of them occur in poorer areas of large cities and the larger the city, the more food desert areas there are. Basically, actual grocery stores and larger chains tend to set up in nicer parts of the city, so people in poorer parts of the city with either no or little transportation have only maybe one or two fast food places and a corner store/gas station/liquor store to rely on, which all of those places only carry fast food or junk snacks. Larger towns or smaller cities tend to have the least issues with food desert areas, but they can still happen.
@Nurk0m0rath3 жыл бұрын
I have never heard that description of a food desert ... everyone I've heard use this term is talking about food actually being grown in the area. Grocery stores aren't usually a source of "fresh" food anyway, these days ... farm stands and farmers' markets are where you find genuinely fresh, but many people don't like those sources because they're seasonal. Grocers too, I suppose, if you live somewhere an old grocer still exists. Modern grocery stores are too concerned with providing apples (a fall fruit) and oranges (a winter fruit) during the summer, strawberries (a summer fruit) in winter, and numerous tropical fruits in cold climates to worry about freshness. Many food items are carted hundreds or thousands of miles and stored for weeks, months, or even years before you ever see them. That's why we have "best by" dates rather than "packaged on" dates and don't generally say where something was grown. But what really gets my goat in this country is when people have literal free food littering the ground. I've seen this with cherries, apples, walnuts, mulberries, and much more. Used to have family in St. George, Utah and we could go to almost any house in the city and find falling fruit or various nuts. Ask the owners and we could pick 5-6 large boxes of free food in an afternoon. And then these same people complain about the cost of food.
@yourawfulhearttosong3 жыл бұрын
@@Nurk0m0rath Really? that’s interesting; I looked it up to make sure and all the definitions I’ve seen say food deserts are areas with limited access to nutritious food (fruits and vegetables, basically). Farmers’ markets are a huge plus to have in an area (community empowerment- helping communities grow from the inside instead of pouring money into them and hoping it helps, that kind of thing; plus the obvious health and environmental benefit of fresh and local food), but you’re lucky if you can access one, at least in the city I live in. edit: missed the part about fruit trees and free food grown that people don’t take advantage of- I have to say I’ve never seen anything like that. Most food deserts are in poorer areas of cities, where I’ve never seen an abundance of trees/plants that provide food.

I guess it's a thing in other countries too, but I'm pretty sure the US in the most heavily affected (I'm Spanish and I've never heard of it in a European context, for example).

What kind of weird psycho diy organization gets to decide how you decorate your house? I mean, I know some places in the UK have county or city council enforced regulations on some building design choices to keep the area uniform and so on, but like... Whether or not your lawn gets mowed...that's your business, right? Other than a noise complaint or property line violations etc, your neighbour's home choices just aren't your business. Idk if there are actually HOAs here too and I'm just not posh enough to know about them, but in that case I think I'm better off never being posh.

One of my brother's first job was for an auction house, still works for them, one of the benefits, you can use the company's accountant to do your taxes pro-bono (it's a decent sized company, and his boss is a dream to work for. He only expects good and competent work, in return he gives benefits and will let you take a half-day [with 3/4 pay for that day] if you're too hungover to work the first half of your shift. Busiest part of the day is the afternoon anyway). I wish I worked for a company like his. Edit: Spelling.

@@Gutzngor3 Yeah, my job is okay, but the money makes it worthwhile, even if being punched in the face is an occupation hazard (I work security). That said, some companies offer amazing benefits. One of my parents friends, he was able to get a mini-van as a company car, very handy for his growing family. Another of my brothers got a free health plan (We live in the U.K. so not necessary, but priority treatment is good). It's never a bad idea to find out what benefits you can get during an interview. You can tell alot about how a company will treat you by asking that question. An example, Costco, they have an amazing package of benefits that are well above legal standards for minimum wage workers. They're so good that very few workers even think of trying to form a union. And then there's Walmart, when the meat counter workers [read, professional butchers] formed a union for better pay and conditions, Walmart executives decided to remove their position so they could fire them without unfair dismissal claims. As they were no longer needed, just to flex that they decided what is fair, which includes minimum wage and mandatory overtime without pay and only paying for the cheapest health insurance.
