My husband is in the French Army, and he knows those. 1 : never eating it cold (or in really extreme conditions). French soldiers always take the time to eat, and they have cold rations when needed. 2 : those tissues were once labelled to be sanitary paper (to be polite...) And why do you not get that many? Well... Those rations constipates every person eating them. 3 : that cheese was horrible before they changed it. They never ate it, and more often than not, was thrown away or.. used as exercise grenades. And do NOT put that in fire : it explodes ! (and causes terrible burns) That said, my husband told me the one you have ? Not the worst one ;)

It's my understanding that the French rations are a result of lessons learned during the Napoleonic wars. Basically the idea being that better food equals better morale and better results in the field. So the French army goes to great lengths to make sure their people eat well, even if the food doesn't have the same shelf life compared to other rations.
@Mar-velousMarlenak8

It makes perfect sense. If your soldiers have low morale than they are going to have low energy and not do well in a battle. The higher the morale the more they're willing to follow leadership and feel they have cause. Anyone who has ever had any dealings with the military lifestyle can tell you this.

The thing i love most about Emmy is that she never seems snobbish about what she’s eating and her reactions seem very realistic to a standard palate. some personalities on youtube would’ve spit out that mushroom soup as soon as it touched their lips, no matter how it actually tasted. Emmy mentioned that the consistency wasn’t great, but saw some redemption in its flavor. I like that she can almost always find something good to say about anything she tries.

High moral is great to have. More likely they will do better than if the moral is low and they cant focus on the task at hand. A lot more avoidable mistakes are made. A lot of times they have to eat items separately and its all high in calories. Which is great for how many they burn. Small amounts of food that fill you up, doesnt weigh much and is easy to headlt or not and consume quickly. Id say thats pretty practical. Not being rude, just pointing it out. My dad was in the military for almost 40 years. He hated these but he also had to eat a lot of them each time he was deployed over seas. So i dont blame him for hating them.

I hope she adds more water next time and pours it into a cup, it’s a drinkable soup and should not be in a bowl with a spoon.

I actually keep 1 or 2 RCIR rations in my cupboard as emergency food stocks. They are solid, tasty and hearty rations and made with quality and flavour in mind. In US rations its typically a very small roll of "sanitary tissue" or TP in a brown paper package. Its basically enough TP for one trip to the restroom. But thats in an individual ration (single meal) vs a full day ration like reviewed here. And you get one with every meal. Its not resealing but most US rations do include a plastic bag for trash or to use to waterproof leftovers. This ration seems more like a general tissue, meaning sanitary (bathroom) and other purpose combined.

"It's like Handy Snacks" Prepackaged foods were mostly a not going to find here in my home growing up but of course seeing all of our friends get them we would beg for Handy Snacks, Hostess cakes & Dunkaroo's. I remember being at the store with my mom when I was about 10 & had some birthday $ & bought a 4 pack of Handy Snacks so excited that I'd get to take them in my lunch. The next day I excitedly cracked into one & was anticipating a flaky buttery cracker like Ritz & a silky cheddar flavored cheese so was a bit surprised when the little red spreader almost bent when I tried scooping the cheese & felt a grainy texture. I spread it on the cracker that I could feel was very hard but still excited I took my first bite & while I had been expecting to hear angels singing what I didn't expect was to freeze with an overwhelming urge to spit it out. They were awful & I was so confused as to why all my friends loved them. I was raised to never waste food & I'd spent my $ on this so I managed to eat the entire thing relieved it was done but then remembering I had 3 more at home. What I also had 3 more of at home were siblings. I decided to very generously gift them each one for the next day & hoped maybe they would like them. I didn't get any complaints or poundings from my two older siblings but I did notice that they never once asked for Handy Snack again. We still never gave up on the desert cakes & did get them one time because my mother got a free box with coupon. For some reason we loved those.

@@EnigmaticLucas Not always, in french, the pronunciation can depend if it was a latin word, greek word, etc.... @@melissadunton3534 And french is hard enough for french :") ! Actually the pronunciation is the most awkard for French people, because you have some "sound" and "accentuation" we don't use, or we don't even conceptualise as a sound (like the letter "h", that why it's really hard for us to say it when we talk in english)

That's why we all use other means of heating it 😁 esbit fuel is disgusting and most us bring a stove on the field.
