@beldiman5870
@beldiman5870 4 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it. All these "social" events organized by the company are BS. Companies do not care about you as a person , you are just a tool, an employee number. On the positive side, at least the paid for an appreciation banquet before laying you off. Many other companies don't, they lay off people without even telling them. An employee might find himself fired without notice, when he shows up at work, his belongings are just waiting for him in a box outside the company building.

Back when I worked at Kroger, they would "recognize" employees who were mentioned in a 5-star customer feedback by giving them a "Customer 1st" pin or something like that to attach to their name badge. They were given a "personal" (aka, copied and pasted but with the name changed) letter from the district operations manager in the mail. We then had to give that letter to our manager to get the pin. I got said letter, and what did I do with it? I threw it in the shredder. That name badge was a curse, so why decorate it?

you mean to say "infantilize" i got some "appreciation" award, it was literally a gold star from a pseudo-manager at a game company. he meant well, it wasnt the corpo cringe you showcase here but he was......doing his version of saying thanks. other co-workers mocked me for letting him give me the star sticker but dude is genuinely trying to be a good guy. it was akin to someone baking cookies and sharing with the crew. i took the sticker as a mini-thank you and a way to make a sort-of-friend feel okay abt himself. its much better than embarassing dude or being mean to him when he was being polite. sometimes ppl mean well but .........are only able to do so much on a meager budget (nobody there was paid well).

By giving you a star sticker he was implying that your co-workers are not doing a good job, that's why they mocked you. This is the same when they are choosing an "employee of the month". It is meant to falsely create a feeling of achievement for the person that gets it and frustration for everyone else. It is not meant to promote teamwork but to create conflicts in the team, hence making it easier to control and fire people. If your boss was genuinely trying to be a good guy, he would give you a monetary reward on the next salary payslip without telling anyone.

Totally agree. My last week at Procter and Gamble, the CEO sent out a $200 bonus to every single employee, as appreciation for being so adaptive to new work regulations with COVID. It was really cool, especially 2 days before my last apprenticeship ended lol

There was a photo contest at my work where you submit a photo of anything. The prize was a certificate of appreciation and it will be frame and hang on the wall of the Executive floor. They literally got free artwork for office decoration. Can't wait to retire from all this crap.

Lol! Perfect timing on this video! Employee appreciation week literally just started at my job today! A couple of us just said "How about the boss just gives us the money directly instead of useless perks?"
@beldiman5870

I would argue that it would be more decent not to give you any meaningless perks at all. Giving people a useless toy as compensation for months of hard work is demeaning, its insulting peoples intelligence. BTW, why is it called "appreciation week" at your company? Does it take a whole week to show appreciation? What kind of events are taking place? Tell us more

I need money to survive so dont give that money is God nonsense. I am back in school trying to get a better job but true freedom comes from working for yourself and changing the work culture of a self owned business. My biggest problem is my current job screwing over my schudel to make it harder to attend school while doing all the thing Josh is talking about so I don't want to hear it. The least they could do is not schedule on my school days.

i joined a company.. now its about 1 yr there.. So the person who sat beside me has 2 tropies of employee of the quarter for some yr in the company. He served like 8-9 yrs with the company. Now these days.. we all have work from home due to corona ... So suddenly on last day of the month firing happened and that person got fired.. Thinking about the tropies on his desk makes it all ironical.
@beldiman5870
@beldiman5870 4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, putting all those trophies on his desk is insulting for the other co-workers. Its like bragging about ones performance and showing everyone else that you are better than them , that their efforts do not count. So I guess HR tricked him by saying : If you indeed are so good that their efforts do not count than you can do their work as well , right? But wait a minute , if you are telling us that you cannot cope with the amount of work done by your colleagues, then you are not efficient enough, so we have to let you go....

I work in a assisted living care. It’s been tough with the pandemic etc.. lots of sickdays( not me), no temps, taking care of 35 elderly and sometimes just 5 workers , people with Alzheimers and other dementia. No visitors, trying to explain why nobody comes to see them, doing doubleshifts because no temps and people calling in sick. How did my employer appreciated us as employee.. They gave us chocolatebars. Thx for that👍🏻 made my day.

The problem with appreciation is based on the fact that we work these jobs not just for the money- they are people pleasing jobs where the victim Aka employee survives on praise and if the employer gives just the right amount of appreciation but not quite enough - then it’s a carrot on a stick that the employees continually chase, and managers are subconsciously trained to dangle this carrot so that no one ever feels fully appreciated so they are motivated to continue slaving away for ribbons and trophies. Validation, approval and appreciation are based on our innate human survival instinct- if we didn’t receive approval as infants, it was a matter of life and death, so we continue in this infantile way throughout life- still seeking the approval of a symbolic parent- aka a corporation and all the managers in it. That’s why they call it “family”- using that term is intentional, because it brings your mind back to all the traumas of the family of origin and upbringing and all the people pleasing you had to do to survive. And if you don’t fit into their circle of acceptance, you are out.
