I'm on a lot of animal-related subreddits. One in particular is for hermit crabs. They require high humidity. A lot of people recommend Saran wrap over the mesh screen. Would this work for animals that live in the same areas as hermit crabs?

Yes! Definitely! (just make sure there's ventilation on the tank somewhere so the animal get breathe of course) I used to cover half the top of the tank of shedding snakes in aluminum foil, a towel, or a piece of acrylic (whichever I happened to have) and it always worked great.
