3 Things that Really Drain Me: repetitive activity, repetitive activity, and...repetitive activity.

Dan, you are so spot on with this analysis! I used to spend a lot of time coming up with detailed plans and scheduling everything on a calendar because I thought that is the right way to go about things. Yet I noticed that I always felt mentally exhausted after working out the plan and just could not make myself get started. I also hate looking at calendars. Whereas if I just jump in with an exploration mindset and forget about deadlines and schedules and other practical duties, I can keep going. I once spent 14 hours straight writing because I got really into the subject matter. At the end of that day I was physically tired but mentally exhilarated!

Ya this makes sense to me. It didn't help me that my family of origin emphasized "being practical " over doing what you want to do well

+Shruthi Reddy appreciate them for what they've given you and now spend the rest of your time creating the life you won't. Resentment or regret doesn't help anyone :) besides... Imagine if you're parents did teach you anything practical, you might be one of those crazy nfps spinning into alternate realities

Yes--that's a can-do approach to the problem. "Self-sabotage" may well be what's happening, but focusing on THAT is like grieving your DNA. What can you do about an unconscious drive you can't switch on or off? On the other hand, if you know an activity turns you off, slows you down, puts you to sleep, etc., it's a wake-up call to change activities.

Good advice. One thing I really hate as an infp is prolong meetings. I was an architect and we always have to attend 5-10hours meeting. Now I am a freelance comic illustrator. I think the work style align with my personality more.

Oh God, I'm "the boss" and an hour or so is usually the longest meeting I can handle.

Dreams Around The World god I even hate that when I was doing a business traineeship I was forced to be at work by 7:30 for crappy meetings that had nothing to do with me when I could have been sleeping. I’d eat snacks and drink coffee with abandon just to try and stay awake and everyone else would give me the death stare. I was just thinking well if you don’t like it don’t expect me to come to your stupid f... meetings if you want me to stay at work 5 days a week until after 6pm and have no life then let me sleep until midday otherwise I’ll be so drained you won’t get a decent performance

You are right. I also feel same. If it's coaching or giving talk I feel great before , during and after. But I think it's self sabotage if there is something that needs to be done but not in alignment with our liking. Then we should take support and help from those who enjoy it. Example: Filing tax return, maintaining accounts, etc

Studying school subjects and revising them in a frequent intervals is where I procrastinate. But when it comes to studying, reading and writing books of my interest or painting, I just can't get enough of it. I could sit with them for hours in a row. My teachers have high hopes from me, because I easily understand concepts. But when it comes to revise the concepts in a structured way I simply procrastinate and can get easily distracted.

This is great!! I’ve wondered about this “self sabotage” thing. The idea has been around 30 + years at least in the psychology field. It’s amazing how many people buy into this and accept its true for them. And it’s so culture mainstream. I know when some would tell me that I would accept it, especially if they were in a position of authority or someone I admired. How I wish I’d known about being ENFT. And that as you said, it’s not that I self-sabotage myself but I didn’t or couldn’t do it. Thanks Dan for another great video.

I’m an ENTP and I relate to ENFPs A LOT until it comes to this type stuff (and confrontation) I’m a wreck if I don’t accomplish what I say I will, I may not feel like doing it but I believe I have to grow in order to help others grow OAN you’re 100% accurate in your observation

Thanks again for your awesome videos! Love, ENFP+ENTP couple

Subscribed. You are brilliant and straightforward and speak right to me: infj. The s and t types are not relatable to me at all.... I seriously lack any of their skill set, and admire them intensely. The school system definitely is set up for failure of NF types. My favourite activity is researching, painting, dancing and my most fave... sleeping 👌🙏🏽 also I have always typed as infj ... I mean obsessively tested haha, but I really really resonate with infp and enfp, do you have any tips on how to truly differentiate once and for all. On cognitive tests I am high on both Ni and Ne and Fe and Fi

concur; i test as ENFP/INFP & you've said it & it makes a lot of sense & u've put it in an easy formula that i can meditate on...it's simple, but: maybe instead of feeling inferior/bad (related to your comment re living in a predom. S/T(?J) world) about putting sh*tty(haha) stuff off, a different perspective could lead me to more happiness...which could lead me to more $ ... which could lead to HIRING SOMEONE ELSE TO DO DA SH*TTY STUFF!! ty :)

Lol when I went to architecture school. If you're an enfp and your internal values don't align with the philosophy of architecture school and culture you'll struggle.
