How to replace the oil cooler! Similar to 5.7 HEMI V8 Equipped with the same style oil filter.
This is a good time to change your oil as well, I changed my oil a week before this happened so it was not necessary, there was no coolant in my oil at all.

Hi there if theres only oil dripping around that area do you still have to drain the coolant or can you replace part with out coolant flush? or just the top oil cooler o-ring?? Or do you have to replace the whole unit??

If you are replacing the oil cooler than coolant will come out of the hoses. Your leak could just be the oil filter o ring though.

If your coolant is the proper colour then I wouldn’t suspect oil cooler issue. It does seem like something is plugged up somewhere. Either that or your water pump is broken, but I think the impeller on them are plastic. Not sure which engine you have though. Is there just no heat in the vehicle or is it overheating.

Well, you have the part. You might as well put it on, it’s not too hard to do. Did the cooling system get bled properly when it was being refilled? Air in the system will cause loss of heat in the vehicle. Is your air vents blowing air out of them?

When the engine is cold, check the coolant level, open the bleeder until it’s just Coolant coming out with no air. If it’s fine. Close the bleeder and start it up to operating temperature, make sure the engine doesn’t overheat. Without going near the drive belt, squeeze the coolant hoses in front of the engine, make sure both radiator hoses are warm and feel if they have good flow. If they are ok, then check the heater core hoses and see if they are both warm, if one is cold and one is warm, then squeeze along the hoses and see if you feel a blockage. If they are both hot then that means the heater core is hot. If the hvac box is working properly, warm air should be blowing out at you now. I wouldn’t suspect a blockage in the hvac systym because it was taken apart to replace the heater core. Does the ac work?

@colin7761
@colin7761 2 жыл бұрын
I did not let it run long enough to overheat but yes it started to. After oil leaks into the coolant so much it gets too thick to circulate properly and it does cause overheating and overflowing of the sludgy coolant mixture through the pressure cap on top of the coolant reservoir.

@colin7761
@colin7761 2 жыл бұрын
@@rhurtadorh32 In some cases the lower temp thermostat does help. For me I have a 180 degree thermostat in all of my Hemi’s. I drive the Hemis a lot different than my v6, and I need them to be as cool as possible without causing issues. My v6 is of course just a regular daily/winter driver car, so it has stock temp thermostats in it, which is completely fine for this engine type, as they are known to not have any engine heat issues like the hemis from before 2009. So to answer your question, a slightly lower coolant temp wouldn’t replace an oil cooler in itself. The oil as you know has its own passages and if it has an oil cooler then the excess heat from the oil gets transferred directly to the coolant instead of vital engine components first. What engine are you running?

@colin7761
@colin7761 Ай бұрын
Thanks bro! Unfortunately when this occurs it is difficult to clean it all out of the system. I flushed it a couple times after the new oil cooler was installed. I used a coolant system flush designed to help remove oils from the cooling system. Good luck! After a few weeks after flushing it a few times, the last little bit of oil residue settled at the top of the reservoir. I then removed the coolant reservoir and disconnected the hoses in a way where the contaminated fluid won’t drain back down into the system. 💯💯🤝

@colin7761, Thank you for replying back. What about when you drained the cooling system for the first time? And you ran/drove the car for the first time. Was it with the new cooler installed, or how should it be done? Thank you again! Greetings from Honduras, Central America.

Sorry for the late reply. I did run the flush in the system before putting in the new cooler. It wasn’t really effective though because more oil was still leaking in and causing issues. If you want to flush it out good before putting in the new cooler, you can bypass the coolant ports on the oil cooler, remove the cooler, install the oil filter. Then you can run a flush through it without more oil leaking in. Anyway good luck! Hopefully it went well 💯

Hi mate, we just bought a 2007 Chrysler 300 3.5 V6 sight unseen from a 'reputable' Chrysler / Jeep specialist with only 66k on it. The car arrived on a truck with noise from the harmonic balancer, which was wobbling about. I went to replace it tonight. First thing I did was remove the top radiator hose and noticed traces of sludge in the line once the coolant was drained. The coolant and reservoir had looked clear, so I was surprised. Looking at the cap, however, I can see tracer there too on the rubber seal. So I jumped straight into Level 12 Red Alert to research these engines, which brought me to your channel. Since the car arrived, it has not been driven because of the pulley - so I've never had it up to temperature. It rolled in, I saw the problem, and waited for the part. I'm now thinking I should replace this cooler also. In your experience, are these engines prone to cracked heads or HGs going? How should I go about things? Returning the car isn't viable due to distance and also a family member thinking this thing is the best thing they've ever seen... so it's up to me to save the day..! But yeah my heart sank when I saw the traces. Many thanks and cheers from Ireland!

Hey! I’m sorry to hear about this! In my experience it’s almost always a bad oil cooler with the 3.5s! The 3.5s are pretty reliable as long as it has had normal maintenance. Tehe head gaskets and blocks don’t usually have many problems. The only major maintenance item on them would be the timing belt and water pump kit. It’s not too bad of a job either. @@colin7761 Hi Colin, I have a question if you don't mind! I just replaced the harmonic balancer on our 07 3.5 V6. The engine sounded great and smooth.. and the serpentine belt running straight. However I left it idling for 5 or 10 minutes and now I can see the new harmonic balancer is beginning to wobble again. I shut the car off and, after crying my little eyes out, thought I'd do some research into what the bigger issue could be. Have you come across anything like this? It was a Doorman part and I used a correct puller, was very happy with the install and torqued it to 70 ft.lbs. I'm going to go out now and use a straight to see if I can visibly see pulley anything out of whack. The dealer claimed to have done a timing belt change - is there anything they could have done? I guess I'm now concerned about the crankshaft.. All thoughts appreciated. Many thanks and cheers from Ireland again..!

I apologize I wish I saw this earlier! Do you happen to have a video of the pulley? Is there any issues that it is currently causing? Did you only notice an issue with the pulley after the dealer did the work? It is required to remove the pulley in order to replace the timing belt and it is possible they damaged it, but they might not have as well. Just tell me what you know and I’ll let you know what I think! 💯💯🤝

@@colin7761 Hi Colin, so I replaced the harmonic balancer 2 weeks ago, as this was moving around. I bought the tool to remove it. I put on the new one and all was well - job done I thought. However within a day I could see slight movement again and the tensioner was moving. I then bought a new tensioner and serpentine belt and fitted them, and again all was well. I drove the car for a day then parked it. Again though I can now see the tensioner moving and the harmonic balancer is now starting to move again slightly. I'm not driving the car, only starting it every few days as I'm working on others. I'm dreading a crankshaft issue. I could make a video this week if you wouldn't mind having a look and giving your thoughts? Thanks for the reply btw - much appreciated!

Hey thanks for this great video - I have heat but very little and suspect a blocked oil cooler - rad flushes are not possible as it’s currently -15F… I’ve seen some guy swap hoses as a temporary fix until spring weather permits a full flush - how does the hose swap work? I can’t figure that out - cheers brother

Thanks for the comment bro. Do you have any symptoms of a bad oil cooler? What does your coolant reservoir look like? Is the coolant level at the full line? What color is the coolant? Is it sludgey? When your vehicle is warmed up, what position is the engine temp gauge pointing at?

@colin7761

Not sure what the part number is but it they are referred to as the coolant hose that runs from the coolant reservoir to the oil cooler and the other one goes to one of the heater hose tees. Are you replacing them for maintenance purposes or are they damaged? If they aren’t damaged you can wash them out and re-use them. Good luck with your repair bro 💯

Great video. My Mercedes 2007 C class has 168,456 miles on it. I had misfires found out it was could and spark plugs , took it to a shop had to leave it for 5 days , then drove it home slightly I think overheated. My car never overheated before bringing it to this shop. I looked at the coolant and I called the shop back and they said there is oil in my coolant 😡. I never had any overheating issues before or leaks , any other signs of oil in coolant. Do you have any advice what happened or could be? Thank you :) my temp gauge went just a hair above the middle and stayed. No coolant in oil though so that's good.
