Buy a gas leak monitor for that enclosed area. Insulation might mask a big build up before you could detect it otherwise. Many old gaslines explode before anyone took an off smell seriously. With the insulation it might take longer to discover.

Billy, you are spot on about stone walls. Many buildings where I live are limestone rock buildings. Once the stone is cold, it takes an incredible amount of heat to get them warm again. Love the rockwool product. Better thermal capabilities than fiberglass, less itchy and no need for a facemask. The hallway has two exterior doors, so it is doubly important to keep the stone from cooling. Great progress at your grandparents home. I looked up the difference between cove and crown moulding. Now I understand why Simon did not cope cut the corners

Putting a vent in the door to the gas bottle storage, great idea. Putting a piece of furniture in front of the door, very bad idea. Suggest having your carpenter make a louvered door. Another idea, open up the wall to the full size of a door so it looks like a closet. Sorry, can’t get over a bunch of grown men afraid to stay in an old building after dark. Really? 😊 Great job on the insulation by the way. Very neat and workmen like.
@JuSutton

Louvered doors not in keeping with the time period etc. of the Convent and a descreet door and vent doesn't need to be covered - a piece of furniture could be a chair e.g., dining type so that the vent would not be blocked but under the legs.

I really like the work you have done so far on the convent and have yet to find any of your choices that I would strongly disagree with…until today. Having witnessed, first hand, the damage inflicted by a propane tank explosion I have reservations about storing not one but two propane tanks in a not easily accessed space with minimal ventilation. My alternative suggestion would be installing the propane tanks in the rear courtyard, possibly within a decorative enclosure, and run the gas pipe through the stud wall and into the kitchen. If, like me, you dislike wasted space, perhaps you could use the space for a coat room or the like.

Insulation in internal walls is now a standard thing in New Zealand but we don't use tape. Also Insulation in the roof, or attic as you call it. Then board over top if you want to use the room later. Heat rises so it prevents heat loss through the ceiling. Maybe something to consider for your grandparents house to help keep the warmth in.

Insulating interior walls also allows you to selectively heat areas that as needed, rather than simply heating the whole thing all at once. Especially for larger buildings with multitudes of rooms, it leads to considerably higher energy efficiency.

I’d think those “spooky spirits “ would love all that you do. I certainly love it.

Especially with the exterior entries on both ends of this… insulating totally makes sense to cut drafts every time one of the doors open. PS probably need a case of the tape… wonder would they give you a bulk discount?

BILLY Put casters on the legs of the furniture in from of the gas cylinder door so easy to just roll the furniture away to change the cylinders when it’s out of gas… just a handy idea I think! I found casters with small break on them not to move accidentally … been a lifesaver when I’m alone !

It would be so cool to reclaim all the old paneling from the attic and everywhere its been used for purpose it wasn’t meant for and line the walls in the entry as high up as you can It would also be a way to disguise the gas for the stove
