No "regular" surgeon would ever tell you this because 99% have no idea how dietary choice affects the outcome of surgery or disease.

To be fair, they're Not taught this information. It's those who've taken an interest in this science which has been brought to the fore in these past years who know better and preach it (whilst many in the medical profession dig their heels in profusely against it) Fortunately.. slowly many are changing ♡

Your comment about diabetes and breast cancer hit home. I was diagnosed in January of 2018 with early stage breast cancer, and I realize now that I had to be at least strongly prediabetic if not fully diabetic at the time it showed up. Not ONE person involved in my medical care ever mentioned metabolic health and cancer-- I had to learn it all on my own and turn my own health around. I proudly showed my blood work to my oncologist with my fasting insulin of 3 and my rock-bottom inflammatory markers and all she could focus on was my somewhat elevated LDL. If it weren't for you and doctors like you on KZbin I have no idea where I would be. Thank you, Dr. Cywes.

@@ellek7233 In order to change that it is highly likely would need to do extended fasts for the body to use up stored fat in your liver. If your consuming more fat than you use each day more will be stored. The amount of fat matters. Extended fasts do force the body to use fat from everywhere and usually the first place it takes fat from is the liver.

He said my not eating carbohydrate was perfect and that I could even try vitamin e if I wanted to, though it demonstrated no benefit for the insulin resistant he said it wouldn't hurt me.

I really wish one of my surgeons had shared this with me before my surgery for breast cancer. Maybe I wouldn't have had a recurrence and maybe I would have avoided necrosis. But then again, I was so enamored with sugar that maybe they did say something and I only heard what I wanted to hear. The good news is that they didn't use the glucose in my IV. I was in ketosis for the last surgery & could take off my wedding rings. Why? Because I wasn't inflamed! Success!

I honestly think the hospital caused the death of a friend of mine who had diabetes by giving her IV glucose, and then gave her insulin, over and over again. She was fighting some kind of infection and the sugar just made things worse. It was sad. This was 5 or 6 years ago, but so unnecessary.

This is the most important video I have seen in a long time. I have been coaching a buddy this summer to prepare for major back surgery next week. He and I have both been doing OMAD. I am dong carnivore, he just switch to it from the stupid starvation diet the doctor put him on. He is doing fantastic now. We are both down about 40lbs. I think he is MUCH better prepared metabolically for the high risk surgery than he was in July. I suggested he call you for a review after watching this vid. Thank you Dr Cywes. You are saving lives and making the world a better place, probably way more than you know. Follow up: my buddy got thru his 8 hour surgery with flying colors! I strongly believe he did so well because he improved his metabolic health and gave his surgeons more to work with. I also believe he will heal better and experience the maximum benefit of the repairs to his spine.

This is the absolute truth. I went low carb 2 years prior to having a triple bypass and had the fastest recovery that my Doctors ever saw. I am a Type 1 diabetic, but having been LC for those two years lowered my insulin resistance to a point that my A1c before surgery was 5.0

Ok, have watched this! Brilliant as usual! One issue to note, the face book algorithm removes any reference to anything to mitigate covid! Ref Dr Sara Myhill stuff. This cleverly mentions a way to mitigate it as it is now very apparent insulin resistance hinders vid D production and activation and therefore hinders immune control leading to cytokine storms! Just so clever from the carb doc!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. I discovered keto January 2018 and was just finishing my cancer treatment. I also found out I was pre-diabetic and had been treated for high blood pressure for several years and started searching for help, as I didn't want to take more medications. I immediately started keto February 2018 and was able to quit my blood pressure medication and no longer pre-diabetic. I lost 40 lbs! I felt so much better and have said since then that I was absolutely sure I would never have cancer again. I went to have my regular mammogram a couple of days ago and they found a new suspicious spot in my other breast. I am shocked. I will have a needle biopsy in a couple of days. If I have cancer again, I will have both of my breasts removed this time. I always eat keto/carnivore, but I will do the 48 hour fast before the surgery this time.

Not sure ketosis will be helpful in my case.

I was told to drink Ensure/sugary electrolyte type drinks three days before surgery. It was a very serious surgery so I did as I was told, even though it did not set well with me. Pump my body full of sugar? Crazy! I had been Keto for two months prior to surgery. My surgery and recovery were excellent but it bothers me that sugar before and after surgery (in hospital) was a priority. I’m now fully recovered and am back on Keto. If there’s a next time I’ll be more confident.

I know this vid is 4-5 months old but ... in 2016 I had back surgery. When I realized they were giving me a sugar solution IV while waiting for the surgical suite, I pitched a fit and explained that I don’t consume sugar or foods that convert to sugar. I’d been keto for nearly a year at that point. They stopped the sugar while I was awake. But I’m sure they restarted it as soon as I passed out.

Yeah, it’s a tough one. I’m not sure what I’ll do when the time comes, but I like knowing I have more options than just going with what a doctor recommends who is going to gain financially by performing a surgery. If you read the book, the hypothetical couple in the intro are basically my folks. The side effects of the surgery that the book talks about, that he wasn’t warned about, took the life out of him. I’d rather have had him die of cancer then watch this once vibrant, joyful man spend the last 5 years of his life crushed, depressed and spiritless. Once again, I highly recommend that every man read this book just to know what’s really going on. Best wishes and prayers for your friend, I really, really hope he has a better experience than the thousands of men who may have been given a surgery that caused more harm than good.

Unfortunately the hardest place to be nutritionally is in the hospital. From the minute you are coming out of anesthesia, you are offered high carb foods - jello, juice, more juice, pancakes - it is hideous. Recently, I had emergency abdominal surgery. My appetite was nonexistent. I wanted high protein since that’s the building blocks of cellular repair. They had nothing to offer me. The liquid diet consisted of unsalted broth that sported 8 grams of carbs in an 8 oz serving. You’re guaranteed no sodium but high sugar. I asked for collagen to be added to the broth. They didn’t have any. We can do as much as we can before entering the hospital, but once we are there, we are at the mercy to an institute who consistently ignores nutrition and the very really threat of carb addiction.

Please remember to follow your postoperative instructions to the letter. Mine were to where the bandages until the next morning, then I could shower. Then start wearing thigh-high 30 mmHg high quality compression stockings. Wear them all day long but don't sleep in them. I purchased three pairs, because they do not feel as tight if you wear them a second time, so I wash them after one wearing. I continue to wear them even after the nine days because they felt so good! I only stopped wearing them because Summer came and they are very hot, but when it starts to cool off again I will probably start wearing them every day under my pants because they just feel so good! You're going to do fine! ♥️ I go for my follow-up ultrasound the first week in November.

Bc even with carnivore , berberine hcl and essentiel oils the sibo can return after cure of 3 mounths or more bc if it's not hypo thyrpidism or low hcl and it is problem of motility and nerves how can we fix that and stop the migration of microbiome in the gut? Yup! I was thinking an extended fast would be even better-nothing in your gut. Don't know if it matters for patella surgery, but when I broke it, I had only had a bean burrito and a taco all day, and that was three or four hours earlier (many years before I went keto.) It was very close to the end of a 70-mile bike ride on which I habitually stopped in the middle for the same thing every Saturday. I'm thinking of having some of my platelets injected into my hip for a torn labrum. Would it be helpful to do a 48-hour fast for that?

They may also use ringers lactate. I'm not sure if that's considered "sugar" containing or not. When I was recently in the ER for a kidney stone they gave me ringer's lactate
