Did you think to clean the rust from the bilge before you fitted the new washer?
@SailingNala4 жыл бұрын
Nope :) the big chucks of rust where removed the fiberglass stain still there, do you believe it's an issue ? The screws are easy to remove again :)

I was surprised you didn't wipe the area, I would probably use a bit of sand paper to clean it. Don't think it's an issue, just my OCD kicking in 😅

hehe , they will rust again and stain again doesn't matter what I do:) I I against painting the bilges because it creates an issue if you want to repair or glass something .

I would definitely remember or write it down on a shopping list that you need new bolts. The bolts become work hardened and that means they become more brittle. I don’t know what your boat manufacturers guidelines are for replacement, maybe they estimate how many years or maybe the miles per replacement?

They do also sell bolts, but it was hard to get on the location of the video, for sure if we had the change or it was critical at that time we would replace

Some people might have used NEW Bolts or at least cleaned the Old ones. Just Wow.

Didn’t Beneteau advise to put some sealant between fiberglass and washers?
@SailingNala3 жыл бұрын
They mention it, but the original setup was without sealant and since the keel doesn't leak we didn't consider it necessary, it is good to be able to detect early if a leak starts

Hack. Replace the bolts, or at least derust them to inspect for damage.

There was no rust on the body of the bolts, there were no new bolts available at time,sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
