I'd be surprised if the yard will allow you to remove their stands.

Never rely on beaching legs when on the hard, those cradles have four points of contact for a reason! I have seen quite a few accidents where the wind screwed the hull around when relying on legs and in consequence the boats fell over. Also when using the legs at sea tie a line to the top of the leg and attach that to a point on deck, this might prevent you losing the leg overboard! Great vid by the way, keep em coming!

How horrible. But that's exactly what I felt like when I look at them. The cradles are better. So much better.

I use beaching legs regularly. You have to be very careful though. You need to know the surface you are taking the ground on is flat, ideally firm sand. It's also important that the boat isn't rolling too much as you take the ground and again when you lift. If it is you will get a pounding and you will incur damage or a boat laying on its side on top of the leg.

Great that you have those beaching stands but please do not remove the yards stands. They are much better equipped to hold your little boat up.
@mikesails100 Жыл бұрын
The yard’s stands are much more reliable. Save your beaching legs to install just before you beach.

I am somewhat confused as to the point of using beaching legs when you have the boat on the hard. The supports that were used to hold your boat in place work perfectly well. Also, I for one wouldn’t wish to drill holes in my hull to allow the bolts to pass through to install those legs. I think you just really need to bite the bullet and get on with sanding you hull back to deal with the osmosis etc. Your stalling mate. I am currently working on my 30ft boat, repainting the deck head, doing some varnishing work on the saloon table and sorting out where the water tank is located. Epoxy work next, then fibreglass and more painting before reinstalling the tank. Just get on with it. 😁👍

Yep, totally agree with the stalling. Soon he’ll be fitting a pump for the fresh water or varnishing the tiller 😳😟

I am in awe of your little stands. My boat yard seems to be in competition with all the others round here to make the most utterly ridiculous stands out of a dead hamster, an oil drum and a cheese sandwich. Beaching legs open up possibilities in my mind for navigating the dryouts on the Friesian coast (or in the Wash.)

Do not remove the yard stands 4 point on the hull better than 2 beaching legs and should only be used has they name states on a beach

It's really hard to balance real world schedules and expectations against boat projects which exist in their own arbitrary reality, where you never know how long they will take or what exciting new fun times they will reveal along the way. Good choice on cutting out drinking, at least for now. You need to keep your body going strong to get through all this, so not forcing it to deal with the stress of processing alcohol will definitely help with that.

You say there's not much weight on them legs but it depends how far over the boat is leaning, if there's a rock under the keel and soft sand under the leg then you'll lean over more than expected and the further from vertical the more weight is on the leg and if that's on soft sand . . . . . .

Never heard of beaching legs before. I've been jealous of the double keel boats I've seen online since they could beach themselves. I'm curious how the beaching legs will affect the boat while sailing? Don't worry about the videos, they are still enjoyable and interesting. Best of luck with work and the boat both.

My main requirement when looking for my boat was a double or triple keel. Got the triple... Thank goodness I did as I've anchored up at night and woke up on dry land many of times

I've seen beaching legs sink up, take the boats weight, and fold damaging the boat, mast, and rigging from the sudden jolt when it lands on it side. One giant piece of advice, don't work on the side of the boat that the beaching leg is holding the boat up on. If it does sink, it happens very slowly until it hits the point of no return. Then it's death or sever mutilation rapidly.

Do you think its worth setting the legs perpendicular to how you expect the boat to beach and paint mark the hull so that you can see the optimum location when setting the legs from the deck and tying it off fore and aft?

Need to work out how to fit them at anchor, on your own. At least have a way to tie the top in position so you can got below to do up the nut so it doesn’t go splosh. You can replace the nut with something faster to set. The videos are good, keep them up, I especially liked the sped up bit of fetching wood, made me laugh.
