you can use mp4 file if you import it using the bitmap node in octane , not the the image texture node

Fast and simple tutorial, thank you!! That is much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip that it must be an image sequence! I'm sure I learned that once and forgot it. Seems like just bad UI design for Octane to allow you to select a video, and then just not work correctly.
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
No problem! Glad you found this video helpful :)! I most definitly agree. You should not be able to load in a video clip at all if its not going to work. They really need to update a few things as far a sthe Ui is concerned. I still love octane though :)!

This is a good video. I wish you also showed how a PNG sequence would work and actually show the transparent parts on whatever object you have as 0 opacity?
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Hello :)! Glad you found the video helpful :)! The best way to get the alpha to show up on your animation is to use 2 image nodes, and on the second one, set it to alpha mode, and plug that into opacity. Let me know if this works :).

Nice! Is there a way to also make it emissive? I wanted to do something similar and achieve tv effect
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely :D! Just take the same animated image texture and plug it into a texture emission node and run that into a diffuse materials emission port. This should give you an effect just like a TV :).

Dear Epic J Creations, The jpg sequenc is not working for me :( what might be the problem?
@seanbenny696 жыл бұрын
Quick question, I did everything you said to do and it worked, but the png is warped significantly, I do not know how to fix this.
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Hello Sean :)! your image textures are mostly likely warped because the UV map you are projecting them onto is no exactly the same shape as the images. there are 2 fixes for this. #1 you could resize the object to the correct shape as I did in the video, or you could use a transform node on your image texture and resize its projection so it matches correctly :). I would recommend checking what aspect ratio your images are, and then setting the size changes on your image texture to match that aspect ratio :). Let me know if this helps :).

Thanks for the reply, I fixed it!

What am i doing wrong? I batch renamed the sequence so it has _001 suffix, it is a png sequence, and i added an image texture ( octane shader ), changed the animation tab but when i hit render from, let's say 100th frame, my figure is not moving. Help!
@nikolandjelon5 жыл бұрын
Oki get it. Very important: always type the exact frame duration like from the sequence, and put the sequence where your project file is

How can I render all frames of a project created in Cinema 4d by Ocatne Render
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
To render all frames, all you have to do is set cinema 4D to render all the frames in your scene, just like you normally would. Just set your renderer to Octane in the render settings and your good to go :). Make sure to set a save location as well. Let me know if you have any more questions :).
@nomad34846 жыл бұрын
I followed your exact steps, but when I put in "492" for my frames in the "movie end frame" the whole movie in octane just turns to grey? I tried even putting end frame as just "2" and same thing happens. Do you have any idea why this might be?
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, interesting. If you set your start frame to say 50, and your end frame to say 100, does it still give you this same issue?
@nomad34846 жыл бұрын
Same thing happens, I'm doing a project that is due quite soon where having this work would really help, would you mind helping me out via e-mail? Would really appreciate it!

I want to do the same , but in the emission chanel. i have tried with an emission texture but is not working
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
To make the animated texture work in the emission channel on say a Diffuse material. You first need to create a black body emission, then plug your image texture into the Texture slot. Let me know if this helps :).

Is it possible to use a video this way that has an alpha channel/transparency? if you just add the video texture to the opacity in octane the background goes away but what's left has heavy transparency. Would want what's left to be completely solid :(
@EpicJCreations7 жыл бұрын
Hey Sebastian! Very sorry it took me so long to respond, this was a question that took a bit of digging for me to figure out. I found out that it does suppot transpaiancy, but its curently bugged. You are supposed to be able to switch the image type to Alpha insted of Normal, and it should make it purly Black and white and gets its alpha from the images alpha. Sadly, the PSD Files that Octane Exports out are not compatible with octane its self in its alpha channel... If you load that same PSD file into PS, and then re export it back out as a new PS file, it will work perfectly with Octane. I also do know of a work around though, if this is something you dont want to do. Hope this helps :)!
@sebastiangug82847 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! I don't need a .PSD file as I want to use a movie (.mov with Apple's Animation uncompressed codec directly from AFX. The issue remains that the result is unreasonably transparent and will have to use physical :(
@EpicJCreations7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm interesting. I'm afraied that Octane does not suppot video files for textures at this time. So what you have to do is make sure that you use an image sequence insted. You could convert you vidoe to an image sequeince in after effects, and export out PNG frames of it. Let me know if this helps :).
@sebastiangug82847 жыл бұрын
Wait, what? I can just use PNG sequences? how would I go about adding all of the images as a texture? (I'll google it anyway) Thanks for the advice so far, will let you know if it works!
@EpicJCreations7 жыл бұрын
you can load in your PNG sequence my following the steps i show here in the video, you would just use PNG image files instead of a PSD file. Let me know if this works, and no problem :)! Happy to try and help :)!

why is octane so limited for a subscription based renderer ... coming from blender things that just dont work in octane are soooo easy in cycles. Video (black/white) as mix factor between a transparent node and an emission node - that simple.
@michaelaforeman33933 жыл бұрын
tried this exact thing, doesnt work. Maybe my version of octane is too new and theyve changed it.
@michaelaforeman33933 жыл бұрын
works perfectly for standard render, but not octane, nothing shows up in the live viewer
@NebulousFilms7 жыл бұрын
can you do this without octane?
@EpicJCreations7 жыл бұрын
hmmm, that is a very good question. I think it is posible. I've never tried that before though.
@davidsawchak45756 жыл бұрын
Yes! In fact, the 'animation' tab on the texture is native to C4D's interface, I believe, rather than Octane's. Plus if you tick 'Animate Preview' under the 'Editor' tab, the viewport will update the texture with the correct frame from the video. (C4D allows you to use a video or an image sequence)
@Claytdude6 жыл бұрын
Weird. For the life of me this doesn't seem to work! Appears in the shader but when textured to object it's just white
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, interesting. What is the naming scheme you used for your image sequences?
@distorta6 жыл бұрын
Man I just cannot get this to work on this project im working on. I;m using jpegs and numbered them correctly. It even works in a brand new project by itself but wont work with my project with camera motion and multiple objects. Any ideas?
@distorta6 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, make sure you do not have any copies of the images in your projects tex folder it confuses the shader. Have a separate folder outside of the tex folder.
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm now that is strange, have you tried making a new scene, setting up the texture animation first, then taking all the asses from your other scene, and bringing them into the new scene with the working animation?
@distorta6 жыл бұрын
Epic J Creations I was working with a texture emission instead of the blackbody emission so it wasn't working.
@EpicJCreations6 жыл бұрын
oh ok! I've done that same thing as well :). Is it working for your now?
@CLOAKINGUS5 жыл бұрын
I found that this only works if you have your textures in the same directory as the save file and name the files ---> filename_001.psd
@EpicJCreations5 жыл бұрын
Yep that naming scheme is very important. Though you should not have to have the image files in the same directory as your scene file.
