So Rent Parties are absolutely a thing, especially at the turn of the 20th century. It was a community based solution for Black people and Black performers. Black people would host rent parties at their apartment a, have musicians perform, and charge a small cover fee. The fees would pay for rent. This tactic also provided a space for Black musicians to workshop new work and was a major factor in the development of Blues as it traveled from New Orleans to KC, Chicago, and Harlem. Just some Black history knowledge for everyone!
