When my tito, a hoarder, died we ended up with a bunch of stuff that we had to get rid of since it was all essentially junk. For instance, we had to get rid of 10 pounds of popsicle sticks that he had bought for some reason. We ended up selling them on Facebook Marketplace. One potential buyer messaged us asking if our tito had licked them (ig he thought they were from actual popsicles and not just the sticks that you can find at craft stores), to which we told him that he had not… the person messaged us back and said “sorry, no longer interested then.” It confuses me to this day.

My mum uses Facebook marketplace religiously. She's a landscape designer and she buys plants, gardening tools, pots, sculptures, scrap wood/metal/stone, stuff like that because gardening supplies are really expensive. She goes to their house to pick stuff up but never goes inside or anything just usually in the driveway or on the street. We're from Australia though so I think it's a little different (safer?) to the US.
@renaeparks23703 жыл бұрын
well it would depend where in the US, this was surprising to me how much they bashed it, they live in california where there is high crime but where i live in the US lots of people use it and have no problems, most of my friends buy their first cars off of it, and my mom uses it too! i think it all just depends on where you are

When we got there, the seller and his wife showed us the chair, while also introducing us to their old, *huge,* retired race-dog, Dewey. As we began loading the chair into my car, Dewey decided that it wasn’t quite time for us to leave and proceeded to jump *into* my car. This man kept climbing from seat to seat to avoid us, and it took an embarrassing amount of time trying to get him to come out. The sellers, who *owned the dog,* didn’t even try to help and only apologized repeatedly. Like girl, I’m over here making an absolute ass of myself, maybe come help out instead? Not really a “selling” story. But I had a treadmill in my house I didn’t want so my roommates put it on Facebook or offer up or something for free. It worked perfectly fine it was essentially brand new BUT you had to get it down the stairs to have it. And I get a text “hey so and so is gonna come get the treadmill around 11” and I’m waiting around for a while. Then this old old nana and her husband show up and I’m like ah fuck they’re not gonna be able to get this down the stairs. And he tells me in Spanish if I have tools to take it apart and I was like nah I’m not a tools gay. And this old old couple PICKS UP the treadmill, walks it down my stairs, and into the bed of a pickup truck. They ain’t need that shit. They were already strong as fuck.

I haven’t had a bad experience on FB Marketplace, but my sister and her ex bought a TV on marketplace. They did the right thing and met up with the people in a public, place, handed the money over, and the people literally TOSSED the TV at them (which broke it in the process) and drove off. Literally insane. Couldn’t even just hand the TV over. I’m just glad she didn’t get attacked.

I actually bought my sectional couch on Facebook marketplace. The dad who sold it to my roommate and I was super cool and genuinely just your average suburban dad. Great couch - so ridiculously comfortable the only issue was when they gave us the couch they didn’t clean it out thoroughly and we’ve literally found multiple wii remotes, deck of cards, rubber ducks, so many forks, and sooooo much more. Apparently the couch was in the kids playroom lmao💀😭 just imagine carrying a couch in your apartment and the whole way down the hallway there’s shit falling out. It was funny as hell.

Yeah, I posted my old car on FB marketplace. I had 3 buyers lined up and a bunch of peaked in high school overcompensating men kept commenting on how I’m over asking for the vehicle and how they sold their shit box for less. So many comments of unsolicited non constructive criticisms. My friends, brother, and grandma started a comment battle with these middle aged men about the quality of my vehicle. My grandpa is a mechanic and kept the vehicle in great condition and we ended up selling it to their neighbour. And sold it for my asking price so it worked out alright for me but never again. Not worth my energy.

Facebook Marketplace is a really common way to buy/sell where I live (New Zealand)! 😀 I sold my spare mattress on it last month! And they came to my house with cash, lol. I always profile people though, before I accept their offer, to see if they seem sane/safe. I've also bought off there before and gone to people's houses, they generally just leave the product in their letterbox after you bank transfer them (in NZ we have bank apps where you can direct transfer each other - noone uses cheques over here). I guess people in NZ are mostly trustworthy - in saying that, there's still some weird stuff on there... like no-one wants to buy your old socks, Karen. 🙃

Also from New Zealand! And I've only ever heard of it being a very normal transaction on marketplace. Everyone I know has referred to buying or selling or at least browsing marketplace. Maybe it's because we were so used to the etiquette of Trademe before marketplace became a thing? Other countries don't seem to have legitimate buy and sell platforms online that are controlled and safe like Trademe
