We review the Epson TW9400 lamp-based projector (also marketed as the Pro Cinema 6050UB in the USA) which uses pixel-shifting technology to achieve near-4K resolution. Topics covered include setup, lumens output, black level, dynamic iris, colour accuracy, motion handling, video processing, HDR presentation, as well as input lag for gaming.
Our review sample is the Epson EH-TW9400 which sports a black finish, but it's also available in white (model number EH-TW9400W).
The screen used in this video review is a motorised roll-down projection screen from Vividstorm:

Thanks for this interesting video. This projector is the base of my home cinema since Feb 2020. A great experience, especially in 3D. I compared it in a test room against a Sony VPL-HW65ES and a VPL-VW270ES and it was a clear winner to my eyes, which I did not expect. I didn't even bother DLPs.

So In 2013 living with my parents I did not have much space and i had no way to fit a tv in my room without it being uncomfortable. I ended up buying a Benq W1070 and an 80" canvas that could be rolled up and stored away. I then ended up moving to a one room 44m2 apartment in 2015 with many of the same issues. However there was potential for a bigger canvas so I got a 180" premium canvas with plans on upgrading the projector to something that is capable of 4K. Then shit happened and here we are I recently moved to a house and am still using the W1070. Should i get a 4K projector so I can watch stuff on a 180" canvas or just get it over with and pay up for a premium 75" TV? I am currently looking at the cheaper Epson EH-TW7000 or a 75" TV in the same price range.

If you have a dedicated room with no light from outside and walls painted in a dark gray, TW9400 will give you a much better contrast and far better black levels than benq. Also the colors are more beautifull and vivid due to how 3DLP works. On the other hand benq, being a DLP, will be sharper and will have a better motion resolution in 24p movies. In a room with white walls you will not be able to see the contrast difference between those projectors.

For SDR content on a small-medium size screen that JVC would have much better contrast. On the other hand this Epson is HDR capable with good bt2020 color accuracy, accepts 4k signal and it has enough light output for good 3D. Also the lamp is much cheaper for Epson (around 200 euro vs 600 euro JVC). Overall I would not choose that old JVC unless you already have it.

You can use this Projector more with this lamp Price.Take a look at Sony lamp cost ore Optoma ore acer ore jvc you cant get a lamp for the Price of a lamp for the Epson.The living Room Projector the Epson you can use every day if you are willing to pay the 140 Euro from time to time. The lcd is very bright you can watch Soccer and not need to fully darken the room.The motorized lamp and the low projection distance you need with this projector are superb! i have a small 17 square feet room and it works great.

I used to use the Epson eh-tw5200 for many years and my main gripe with projectors is the annoying fan noise. Works better if you use headphones and it also requires lights to be turned off. With new 75 inch TV sizes becoming more affordable, projectors have even less appeal. Unless your house has the space for a dedicated cinema with a 120+ inch screen size. Do you have plans to review a LG nanocell like the 916na? It would be great to sees a comparison to a LG OLED or the Sony xh950.
@BlownMacTruck
@BlownMacTruck 4 жыл бұрын
Eh? Epson fan noise is one of the best out there. It only kicks in if you crank the lamp up, which is completely unnecessary in any normally light controlled room you’d put a projector in. And even with it running full tilt, you have to be sitting pretty close during a quiet movie scene to even hear it. I’m not even going to comment on the 75” screen size. That’s hilariously small when people with projectors consider 100” on the low end.

Hi Vincent. I've been trying to find information about display calibration and haven't been having much luck. The problem is, pretty much all results assume one of two things: 1) I am either using a computer and I am looking to load ICC profiles or 2) I am using a display capable of hardware calibration. In the case of the first option, it has become a new pet hate of mine that this is referred to as monitor calibration as it objectively isn't. It is calibrating the colour output of the PC. It's a poor use of language plain and simple as it does nothing to improve the accuracy of the monitor once a different device is attached and it makes finding information about actually calibrating the display itself extremely difficult. In the second case, most displays (monitors or TVs) don't support hardware calibration to my knowledge (or if they do, they don't make this information easily accessible). Here's what I'm looking to achieve. I want to be able to adjust a TV or monitor to the be its most accurate, regardless of input source, using the options available in its menus. For example, I currently use my monitor for multiple devices and it has controls to set a custom white balance either by adjusting red, green and blue (as many monitors and TVs have) or 6-axis colour control. I would also like to be able to adjust any display I buy in future such as a TV that 1) Isn't connected to a computer and 2) May not be capable of hardware calibration (loading LUTs or colour profiles). What equipment do I require (I'm willing to buy equipment) and can you please direct me to any useful information regarding this topic as all searches I've conducted so far lead to articles about creating ICC profiles for a computer or hardware calibration of displays that support such a feature. I would be most grateful.

BlownMacTruck Erm, no not really. Pixelshift is still a flawed technology compared to native resolution.

This projector gets the job done pretty well. kzbin.infoUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.

The Epson Projectors are great, unfortunately they still have no 4K Motion Interpolation, so they are essentially useless.

Stop buying projectors. VR headsets provide a much better experience, especially if they are oled.

@@MrDead1975Lol I just did the run around with projectors and they are shit. I already have a giant TV which destroys the IQ from a projector, no noise, no heat, no accidentally glaring into the bulb, no sillouhettes... For 300 bucks you can get your hands on an HMD Odyssey Plus which is an OLED headset. Every time you take it off it feels like you left the theater. Here is my several thousand inch screen: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1510506960

@@timmyp6297 depends what you class as "giant" doesn't it. come back when you have a 140" screen with a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup. I wonder why cinemas don't have one of your giant TVs? enjoy your VR movies Billy no mates

@@MrDead1975 Do you understand what I am talking about? Do you understand that I am referring to full VR headsets that can put you anywhere in the world, put you inside of games, put you high above a city with a 5000 inch screen projected onto the side of a building? No I didnt think so. Enjoy that "tiny" 140 inch. If Im watching alone, Im doing it on a Valve Index or an OLED Odyssey Plus with DTS-X. Atmos is shit. You dont even understand what I am talking about anyways lol. Its something completely different than what is traditionally used. EDIT: Here you go. This is my theater. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYe1l6t9aK5ofJI Enjoy the new dreams. Im living them.

@@timmyp6297 I know exactly what you are talking about as I have a HTC vive. again sitting on your own with your head stuck in a vr headset is not the same as watching a movie with friends and family. Dolby Atmos is also superb when you have a proper setup and not some shit virtual crap from a soundbar
