I’m a 80 year old white woman . When I was a child we would have ‘dinner on the grounds’. We lived in the country and this was how it was done . We had a long, long covered table in the side yard. It was chest height on an adult, back then I didn’t think it was fair because we needed help getting our food, but now I can see advantages. No more wasting food and no more little hands messing in the food. Thank you for your recipe and the memories. God bless you.

We used vanilla, almond and lemon flavoings. We also used a cup of sour cream and 2 sticks of butter. Mother came from a large family. They would get together on Sunday after church for dinner and visiting at grand parents house. As dinner settled the ice cream churns came out. All the children took turns turning the crank on the churns. The aunts would bring out their cakes. Each cake made to be the very best they made. My family were hard working folks or we would have been huge. Thanks for helping me remember. I am 74 now and only 3 of the youngest children are still with us.Memories are what we have left.
