It's great to teach kids how to use knives and knife safety from an early age. The more practical skills kids learn, the more of a useful and confident person they will become for themselves and society. It's also funny to hear you describe how people who are drawn to the hi-tech fast paced world of modern folders seem to be prone to excitement and drama where those who are drawn to the slow paced world of traditional knives are more prone to friendliness and community. It's almost like the different styles of knifes are a metaphor for life.

Thank you for this video. This is very helpful informative to me. It’s funny because it seems like right after I asked you about sharpening you post this video so it’s very helpful to me. You have very to very patient and gentle to be able to do that and keep the angle. But I’m really grateful and blessed that you have made this video. I’m gonna have to go watch your older videos to see if you have any videos with your dogs I’m disabled and I have an emotional therapy dog and have had a huge love for animals especially dogs so when I hear you mention your dogs it brings a curiosity to me. So I’m gonna go back and enjoy watching all your older videos. Also I’m curious now you don’t have to tell me but I’m very curious if you have any local places that you buy some of your knives especially since you happen to live in a similar area. Like I know there is White Mountain Knives is in Barrington New Hampshire but while I was visiting Renaissance Firearms years ago I discovered that White Mountain Knives New Hampshire location is bit a retail store so if you don’t mind sharing any local knife stores you visit now I realize everything is online nowadays but me being old school I prefer retail stores where I can get hands on and I realize there’s places like SEIRRA or Dicks sporting goods. Listening to your knowledge about knives you having as much knowledge as you do it’s gonna sound strange but your knowledge and then you being a female it’s kind of intimidating to me. But I really appreciate you and all your knowledge and skills all about knives I’m grateful I’ve had Randy aka Georgia Adventurer suggested to me to subscribe and watch your videos. I completely understand you take on well made higher end knives I realize that they are superior quality but unfortunately a lot of us like myself are unable to afford the higher end better knives. But I’m grateful for you and your knowledge I’m gonna really appreciate your videos to give myself some knowledge about a lot of things I’m unfamiliar with and would otherwise never learn about so I thank you for your helpful informative videos. Thank You stay safe and give them dogs some extra affection for me lol GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES 😊👍⬆️☮️✝️🙏🔪🗡️⚔️🤜🏽🤛🏼🫶🏽🫡🤝

Looking for self encouragement to leave guided systems and improve my freehand sharpening, I stumbled upon your vid. Immediately subscribed. Informative, interesting and soothing at the same time. That water you use is a bit soapy, isn't it? Thanks very much

I didn't know that you were a Waldorf School teacher. My twin brother & I attended the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School here in CT, when we were kids. We didn't do any whittling, but the nearby farm would bring over sheep, chickens, goats & rabbits, etc for the kids to interact with. My favorite part of the day was snack-time, followed by nap-time. Each kid had their own personal roll-out "Nap Mat", and my twin brother & I would roll our mats out and fall asleep right next to each other; it was cute. Kinda wish I still had my nap-mat! Great video, btw. I'm a mediocre freehand sharpener at best (I can get a good toothy working edge, but that's about it), but I've learned a lot from your videos. It was awkward at first, but I've been practicing using both hands to sharpen, and I'm slowly getting better at it. You say you're not a "Sharpening Guru", but you ARE the Queen of Planet Erica, and that's a much more noble, distinguished & regal title to have 🙌❤👍🖕

They are the worst or close to it. I can't freehand for anything but think the spyderco sharpmaker and the work sharp precision adjust are pretty safe options for newbies at a reasonable price point

Great job, i must say most of my day to day sharpening is on a guided field sharpener from worksharp with dual diamond plates, dual grit ceramic and leather. Its just too easy to have by my easy chair, very durable in design and has more than i need to get great edges, but a tall cup of double barrel coffee with some Case cv on a silicone carbide or india stone, finished on a soft arkansas, and barely rubbed on some leather..... its therapy for my mind, body and soul. I guess i want to hang on to the old and grab onto the new

Erica - would you venture to try out the tactile knife bexar at some point in the future? Curious what your take would be on it. My assumption is their magnacut is soft but with that thin geometry it wouldn’t have much of an impact on performance. Anways, keep up with this beautiful, real content and god bless
