No matter the folder, it's a folder! Convenience item, nothing I'd feel like putting to pressure. The Last Boy Scout gave me fits beaver chipping a tree down with Paramilitary 2! Even big thick folders don't make me think of outdoors. Truth for me us Opinel is the ultimate pocket knife with it's lick, featherweight and carbon steel cutting over stainless cutting.

FRN is in the top 3 handle materials for me and I’m not ashamed. I really don’t understand the fuss. I get that it can feel cheap at first but from a user standpoint they just hold up well and can mold them so many different ways.

I've rocked a Delica for years and Enduras before that. When Bugout came out the S30V turned me off and I squeezed in reaction to the steel alloy and felt that flex!!! Holy mother of pearl! I hated that knife since.

Love this video, a lightweight has been my EDC for decades. In the 70's my first quality blade was a Buck 110, a hunk of Brass. It was too heavy and bulky. After a few years I switched to an Gerber Sportsman with a Soligen Steel blade, much smaller and lighter. Never looked back, I have heavier knives but only use them for specific occasions. My Delicas, Dragonflies and Enduras are just so light they disappear. Your comments are right on track with my opinions. Just love Spyderco lightweights.

Frn is not just acceptable, it's great. It's light, tough and cheap. My favourite small knife is the Spyderco Chaparral frn. I have the Manix 2 lightweight in S110V too. Sure, sometimes we need a little more heft but I prefer the efficiency of frn. I like lockbacks, like the wire clip but don't like compression locks. Of course, axis locks are the cat's whiskers.

My favorite lightweight scale material is Benchmade's cf elite. It's light, looks great, and is stronger than frn/grn.

Feel ya on the FRN scales. Already had a Bugout before I heard about people not liking the flex. 😂 by then it was too late, I’d seen what the Bug was capable of, and there was no talking me out of liking it.

Thanks for the video, Erica. Not much into the smaller EDCs ... but good to know the Cerakote adds additional texture to the frn/grivory scales in addition to corrosion-resistance to blades.

I’m very happy with my Bugout 535-3. It has plastic scales that are reinforced with woven carbon fiber that have no noticeable flex in normal use. There are two differences that make my scales stiffer than your FRN. Carbon fiber is stiffer than glass fiber and mine has continuous fibers compared to the chopped fibers in FRN. The carbon fiber also probably has a better bond with the resin.

The other day I recommended the Delica to a friend. They played with mine a little bit and said that since it has plastic scales it won't take much abuse. I laughed and pointed them to your review. I said, check this video, Erica really uses her shit and if the Delica survived on her hands, I'm pretty sure that I'll do just fine for you.

When the bugout first came out it was worth the price. Not a great deal now at $160. For instance the Hogue Doug Ritter RSK mini is made in California with much better material’s and is still cheaper than the bugout! Benchmade is overpriced no doubt

Advanced Knife Bro claims the blade or locking mechanism will fail before the frn or plastic handles in his videos where he batons with folders. He said his grivory Bugout sustained less damage from batoning than his Sebenza. I have been really impressed with the frn on my Buck 110 Slim Select. Frn is also less expensive, making premium knife steel more affordable.

I have owned a Bugout and know they are indestructible. I carry a zome green delica a lot. It has full skeletonized steel liners so even though it light it is strong as hell. Not too sure about the other two because of no experience with them.

Thanks for doing this video! Such a great topic addressing some of the ridiculous misconceptions about FRN and lightweight materials in general. People don't get that FRN is made to be durable in same the way that a boot sole is durable, with a slight amount of give to allow for impacts and abuse. They aren't show knives, they're 100% no-nonsense work knives. Funny thing is, the only two knives I've owned where the scales failed on me were a micarta scale that snapped and a steel scale that bent.

I’ve beaten the hell out of FRN knives and never had a problem. If it’s done right like on a Benchmade, Spyderco, KA-BAR, or Steel Will FRN can take a lot of abuse. If it’s from a shitty chinese company like Ganzo it will probably break the first time you grip it tightly
@sabotagesavant52772 жыл бұрын
I know you like a few battle scars on your knives but quit throwing them off roofs & running over them with cars/trucks. I'm cool with FRN, holds up well.
